actonel

Avatar n tn are you still not taking any prescription drug for your osteoporosis? Am interested to know what/why your doctor is recommending for your treatment now... I'm 62 Fem. with T score -3.5. My doctor is putting me on Actonel but I am reluctant to start. Side effects are very worrisome... not sure what to do. I have started mega doses of supplements and calcium and D and excercise and I want someone to tell me that that has worked for them.
Avatar n tn Right hip replacement. I'm on requip, lyrica, cymbalta, celebrex, just starting actonel plus vitamins & calcium. thank you. I'm 76, female. I have osteoporosis of the right hip and osteopenia of the left hip. I have peripheral neuropathy (familial), and two bad knees.
Avatar n tn Just a little bit of bone pain for the first 2 wks after the injection then, it goes away. That said, unfortunately, for me, my DEXA did not improve and my osteoporosis in my spine (the T-score) did not get better. Now, my doctor is sending me to a 'bone' clinic that apparently specializes in bone disorders such as osteoporosis. I have thought about this long and hard since getting my DEXA result.
Avatar f tn It also affects the absorption of calcium, which in turn can lead to osteoporosis and fractures. Discuss your concerns with your doctor before stopping any medication. I hope it helps. Best luck and regards!
Avatar n tn I have had osteopenia for many years; I have been able to rebuild my bone density by taking calcium and magnesium, but if you've already been diagnosed with osteoporosis, you might need to go on a med specifically for that. What is your current thyroid status?
Avatar f tn As I have osteoporosis besides hep b, I have been taking Actonel 35mg for 5 years with little improvements and my doctor added now Evister for about 6 months. But I feel that those medicines are not helping me at all and may be they are damaging my already infected liver. So I decided to drop them and take instead vitamin k-2 (Menatetrenone (MK-4)) and I found this article and similar ones in internet. http://www.aor.ca/assets/Research/pdf/Advances_10_May_2006_Menatetrenone.

Avatar f tn I know with my mom, it did not work that way for her. She was on bone drugs, calcium/Vit.D for 20 yrs total and still developed osteoporosis with 2 compression fractures in her back. Finally at 79, (she's 80 now), they said, no more bone drugs, they aren't working. She started out with Fosamax, and after awhile when side effects start from that one, and Actonel was available, they put her on Actonel and she was on Actonel all the way up until it was stopped at 79.
Avatar n tn I take once monthly Actonel. While I was pushing the pill through the foil blister, it broke. I did not take that pill for fear that it could cause stomach problems. My question is would it have been safe to take? Also, if I contact Proctor & Gamble, do you think they might replace the pill. If it was a daily pill, I wouldn't worry about, but I just lost a whole month of medicine due to a faulty package design.
1139187 tn?1355706647 ll let you know the results when I get them. I am also taking Actonel 150mg monthly for the osteoporosis. As far as side effects, I have not experienced any in any form. Everything appears all right down below. If I recall, I was on 2 actuations per day for about 6 months and then had a t-level taken which dictated increasing the dose to 3 actuations. In another 6 months, the same story, so I was increased to 4 actuations.
974371 tn?1424653129 I have suffered with it daily for months, no relief even from Zofran. One Doc said I had a motility disorder, another one said IBS. I was pretty much confined to home. Read ginger tea helped so tried that, with some relief. Saw a GI doctor at Stanford who suggested Ginger and Acupuncture. I had gotten acupuncture before with great results for sciatic issues. Made an appt with my acupuncture doctor, who is great! Does not take our insurance but worth going to.
294425 tn?1288528395 I was also was diagnosed with severe osteoporosis in 2010, but nobody could figure out why, since I was on estrogen to PREVENT that. My Dexa scan at the time was -2.8 for the AP spine, -2.8 for total left and -2.5 for total right - worse than my mothers bones, and I was only 46 at that time. I have been taking Reclast since then. My family physician did new labs this week. My calcium was 11.3, my PTH had gone up to 76, and my vitamin D 1, 25 was 114. My family phys.
1026267 tn?1257591273 Care should be taken when taking medications for osteoporosis, as there can be adverse side effects and some dental work should not be performed while on it. I have had osteopenia for many years, and my latest bone scan shows that I've actually rebuilt bone, by implementing a regimen of calcium (1200 mg/day, taken twice daily - I take it at noon and 6:00 pm to prevent conflict with my thyroid med), magnesium (200 mg/day, taken at bedtime, moderate exercise.

Avatar m tn My wifes orthodontist recommended a consultation with a periodontist prior to him starting the procedure for braces. My wife is a 65 year old in good health who has taken FOSAMAX for 5 1/2 years. She wants to get her teeth straightened. The periodontist has recommended a procedure to reinforce the gums prior to the braces. This has added an additional 6K to the price and about 3 months to the total time to straighten the teeth.
719868 tn?1230422075 Actonel, plus Vitamin D3-ANALOG from Denmark for bone re-mineralization (which is not available in the USA yet, but has been used all over Europe with lab proven success), and Crestor for high cholesterol. I had to come to Panama to be diagnosed with Hashi/hypo because my USA family doctor would not run any test except TSH, even though I repeatedly asked him to do the thyroid panel. He said the TSH was normal so no need to test any more.
974371 tn?1424653129 Thank you. Wish I had seen this yesterday as I had an appt. with my GI doctor who says it is IBS but does have me set up for a hydrogen (?) breath test in two weeks. There has been no blood detected in my urine which was checked in the ER twice recently. I have had stools checked, endoscopy and colonoscopy with biopsies. I see an Urologist today and will discuss this with her. I also read today that taking Vit E and Calcium can cause kidney stones.
Avatar f tn //philaholisticclinic.com/natural-treatment-for-osteoporosis/ Because supplmenting with anything can impact you, we do recommend you consult with someone. Even a nutritionist. Calcium, vitamin D, and magnesium are important for bone health. Recommendations of what amount to take would be best with someone that knows your medical history. Even a nutritionist could be of benefit to you. Are you doing weight bearing exercise by the way? This video is helpful. https://health.clevelandclinic.
294425 tn?1288528395 Hi Rita, I don't have osteoporosis but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn once! Seriously ,as we talked about before, I am so sorry you are dealing with this on top of everything else.
Avatar f tn Generally this is used for the immune system -- it is found in highest amounts in colostrum, the first part of our immune building found in breast milk. It is used for other things, sometimes for iron, but still mostly for building the proper bacterial foundation for a strong immune system. Don't see how it will build bone.
974371 tn?1424653129 Just today I had read that Calcium and Vit D may contribute to the formation of kidney stones, both of which my Endocronologist has prescribed for my Osteoporosis. I see her on Friday for thyroid nodule follow up. The doctor I saw today dies not agree with the high doses. It is a concern because every time they do these tests they always mention the spine degeneration, ESP at L2and L3. I also have it in my neck. So, what do I do?
Avatar f tn I have osteoporosis and have been on Actonel for 18 months. It has done wonders and reversed all of my bone loss, some greatly and some moderately, but all areas have improved. There are so many contributing factors to it that there is no telling what caused it in either of us. Genetic predisposition did not help in my case. What are the docs doing to treat yours?
Nicelady Teriparatide (Forteo) is also approved for the treatment of postmenopausal women who have severe osteoporosis and are considered at high risk for fractures. The medicine is given through daily shots underneath the skin and you can give these shots even at home. Another advantage is that it can be given in patients who cannot tolerate oral biphosphonate drugs.
Avatar n tn I expect she is Anxious about it all aswell does she get out and is she as busy as she can be as she has a lot of pain ,it could make her feel very fedup, and that makes it worse.Does she have exercises to do for the Osteoporosis, I think they reccomend some to strenghthen her . Avatar f tn My doctor told me that I have Osteoporosis and wants me to try Forteo an injection for two years. Has anyone tried this drug and what were your side effects, if any. I don't want to make my stomach problems worse than there already are.
