I have had very little problems with Prolia. I've done 4 injections over the past 2 years. Just a little bit of bone pain for the first 2 wks after the injection then, it goes away. That said, unfortunately, for me, my DEXA did not improve and my osteoporosis in my spine (the T-score) did not get better. Now, my doctor is sending me to a 'bone' clinic that apparently specializes in bone disorders such as osteoporosis.
My doctor is putting me on Actonel but I am reluctant to start. Side effects are very worrisome... not sure what to do. I have started mega doses of supplements and calcium and D and excercise and I want someone to tell me that that has worked for them. Most comments I get is to take the drug because it's more effective. I can't believe everyone is taking bisphosphonates or other drugs like that.

After about 3 months, was having bad low back pain and pain on the top of both thighs. I then had a left rib fracture of unknown cause. At that time, no side effects like this were published. I did find a small group with similar symptoms but my Doc said it was not the Nexium. I stopped it and within 4 days, the flank and thigh pain were gone. I was later put on Omeprazole, 40 mg 2x a day fir the past few months. Not sure yet, but my low back muscles are killing me.

My PA who ordered my bone DEXA scan (since I have osteopenia), had ordered it because it had been 2 yrs since my last one. I had it done on Tues. and they called me today saying that my bone density had worsened and now I'm considered advanced osteopenia 'right before osteoporosis'. It's best to have all dental work done prior to taking these medications, as they cause issues with dental procedures. I don't know the details on that, but they did tell us to make sure she would need no dental work while on the drugs.

Yes forteo put me flat on my back. It also caused me to have an arrythmia of heart. I will not take it ever again. I can't take the other osteoporosis drugs so just hoping the calcium/Vit D are enough. I am also very careful and pray I won't fall.
Hi I too have a very sensitive stomach. Alot of nausea. Just was informed that I have osteoporosis. My doctor wants me to use Forteo, an injection that you use for two years.
I wanted to know from women in their fifties and sixties if there have been any long term effects from having one removed. Like for instance early osteoporosis or early menopause. Has anyone had experience with Duavee or Prolia? My doc did not go over the side effects of these but when I looked up Duavee it looked like hormone meds had severe side effects, one being particularly important to women, the increased risk of uteurus cancer.
I guess I read that some take progestins with it to help decrease the risks of uterus cancer, but on the warning it says not to mix any additional estrogens or progestins together. Are these meds worth the benefits over the cons?
The Doctor said I should take Advil for the pain and that things will get better. Everyone that I know has taken themselves off of this med due to the side effects. I am 58 yrs old. and I feel like a 100 lately being on this medication.

However, you may also want to ask your oncologist about taking an osteoporosis drug. I am currently in a phase 3 drug study which is checking the protective effects of osteoporosis drugs to help keep breast cancer from recurring as bone cancer. Early results seem to be very promising. At the very least, taking an osteoporosis drug will treat your osteoporosis. If there is an added benefit - even better! Thinking of you.
But if one has had a mastectomy and chemotherapy, and there were zero nodes affected/involved, is there really any benefit to taking Tamoxifen? Right now the side effects are just making me downright cranky (and yes, I am on Effexor) and honestly the body changes courtesy of forced menopause are not helping the attitude any.
Can cancer spread even if lymph nodes were negative?

PPI by suppressing the acid production changes this environment and affects the absorption of calcium resulting in osteoporosis- This is how PPI is believed to cause osteoporosis.
But in your case old age could also be a factor.

I have a real bad stomach,alot of nausea all the time. My doctor told me that I have Osteoporosis and wants me to try Forteo an injection for two years. Has anyone tried this drug and what were your side effects, if any. I don't want to make my stomach problems worse than there already are.
My neurologist just informed me that Osteoporosis and shrinkage of the Cerebellum are very serious side effects for long term users of Dilantin. Does anyone know more about this?
I've been taking 500mg of Dilantin for over 30 years since I was a teenager, and now I'm terribly worried. Not one of the neurologists had mentioned anything about this over the years, and now at 46, I've learned that I may have severe osteoporosis.
