Avatar n tn I take once monthly Actonel. While I was pushing the pill through the foil blister, it broke. I did not take that pill for fear that it could cause stomach problems. My question is would it have been safe to take? Also, if I contact Proctor & Gamble, do you think they might replace the pill. If it was a daily pill, I wouldn't worry about, but I just lost a whole month of medicine due to a faulty package design.
11119474 tn?1428702170 The only draw back is some people over time can get cataracs or brittle bones and other side effects. With anything it is risk/benefit. But your doctor should monitor you. Many people with other diseases such as Lupus and brain tumors are on more steroids. Steroids work on inflammation they do not slow the progression of MS.

Avatar f tn Suzanne, Happy Birthday! I too often wonder how I got old so fast.lol Time flies I guess. I will check out that website. The drs won't let me take things like actonel or that class of drugs as my osteoporosis affected the bones in my jaw and they are afraid to take the chance as with those drugs there is a risk. I was disappointmented about the forteo. I think that drug is more dangerous than its worth personally. Are you still working as an RN?
Avatar f tn Must say the proverbial "When it rains it pours". Bone density..Hmmm You may not want to go the Fosamax route so there are a few other ideas you may want to try. As a personal trainer for the last 20 years I had bones of steel. When liver disease took a hit at me I didn't work out for almost a year, at least the heavy weights. To my surprise I was diagnosed with Osteopenia. The only way you can increase bone density is thru weight bearing excersices.
1277602 tn?1271113477 For the past 20 years, I have not taken any milk or milk products (cheese, yogurt, butter) etc. Now I feel my bones are brittle, I get cramps and hear my bones make sounds when I sit for a long time or walk fast. My joints ache a lot. I have started to take 300 ml milk everyday now. Is there anything else I can do to enhance my calcium intake please help.
Avatar f tn to answer questions, my symptoms are shortness of breath sometime, brittle nails, dry hair, symptoms that are related to hypothyroidism....they said my thyroid was good.
2020156 tn?1328563786 Cooked chicken bones (well, ANY cooked bones) can be dangerous because the cooking process makes them hard and brittle. When the dog chews them they splinter and the splinters can get stuck in their throats or along the digestive tract. Raw bones are soft and moist and don't splinter, which is why it is safe to feed dogs raw chicken if you follow the BARF (Biologically Appropriate Raw Foods) diet. Keep an eye on her.
Avatar f tn ve said it messes with your body entirely to much, not only will it give you fertility issues but it also cause brittle bones it is not safe to be on. Switching to another form of birth control is really the best option.
2020005 tn?1628125976 and she though it was dislocated, and she said it happens quite a bit, she did an x-ray and found out his arm was broken, they did a full skeletal x-ray and found out he had 8 other broken bones, mostly his long bones. She assured me she didn't think we were abusive, as we were very concerned the entire time, and she never even realized anything was wrong in the 8+ visits we saw her, on top of that, he was mild anemic, so if any abuse was occuring, he would've had massive bruising.
Avatar f tn m currently 8 weeks pregnant and will be having another CVS due to the fact that I have a genetic disorder called O.I. (brittle bones). If I could give you any advice about the CVS I would tell you to go on bed rest for 3 days after the CVS procedure because there is a slight chance of miscarriage and even tho I didn't miscarry I still had spotting for 2 days.

They are possibly losing custody of her and I need to find someone in Central New York to perform these tests before it's too late. Please someone help our family!!!
Avatar f tn Hey ladies! I'm getting concerned about this popping noise I hear every time my little girl moves around. I will be 30 weeks on Wednesday. I asked my doctor about it last visit and he stated that he's never heard of this before.. it sounds like an underwater popping of bones. Doc says nothing to worry about but it's still concerning my due to his confusion on it.. what could it be?! Should I be worried?? Thanks ladies!
Avatar f tn I have never heard of fragile bones being a symptom but have they considered that he may have another disorder along with the Chiari. For instance something like Osteogenesis imperfecta (brittle bone disease) which causes bones to fracture because they are not being formed properly. I don't know if there is any connection but this disease can also cause bones to form incorrectly which makes you wonder if it could affect the cranial formation too (possibly causing Chiari?
Avatar m tn Your body requires calcium to keep your bones healthy and strong, therefore a lack of calcium puts you at risk of developing osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a condition where your bones become porous, which makes them brittle and weak. This condition increases your chances of suffering bone fractures, commonly in the hip, wrist and spine. In severe osteoporosis your bones are so brittle, coughing or falling can cause them to break.
Avatar f tn It is the act of cooking the bones that actually changes the properties of the bones, causing them to become brittle and potentially dangerous, though I have also head of the occassional hound that has gotten into the garbage and eaten the whole chicken carcass and survived (TADA!). The moral of my story is, things even "bad" things in moderation are not ALWAYS bad. Using sound judgement and having a couple drinks a week probably won't do a whole lots.
Avatar f tn Hi. I'm not the nurse but I know that periods can be affected by various factors. Diet and exercise are just two. I'm not sure why your doctors didn't follow it up. Decreased periods, from memory, can lead to brittle bones and even issues with fertility.
773755 tn?1328119777 t like the form of calcium they use -- oxide and hydroxide, or what used to be called hydroxy apatite, which strengthens the outside of the bones but leaves the inside brittle. Not the most absorbable form, though some will utilize it okay. Probably left-overs from the shark cartilage. It's not what I would take, but there are worse products out there.
