Avatar n tn Osteoporosis- is a degeneration of bone. It can lead to brittle bones and breaks of major bones. Osteoarthritis- is a degeneration of the joint. typically caused by wear and tear.
Avatar m tn Hi. So, are you talking about 'bent' bones and not fractures? A complete fracture is when a bone breaks all the way through and the other is when it doesn't so the bones 'bend' or look bent. How old are you, if you don't mind me asking and how long has this been an issue that you've noticed? There is a rare disease called 'bent bone dysplasia syndrome' But am guessing you don't have this as it has a host of features and is very serious.
Avatar f tn I have taken fosamax and actonel and have had stomach problems and aching bones. My doctor is thinking about the yearly injection of reclast. How safe is it and will I have more problems with my bones aching - I can't sleep at night a lot from the pain. This discussion is related to Atrial Fibulation / Multi-Infarct Dimentia.
Avatar n tn I heard that with extended use bones will become more brittle with increased % of fractures occurring. Is this correct? If so, At what point (after how many years) is this a problem?
Avatar n tn I am 3 years post breast cancer i had lumpectomy chemo rads i have taken tamoxofen for 2,5 years now on aromasil i had a bone density scan and was told i had low calcuim levels, now on calcuim sandox and actonel asked if i had osetoprosis and was told no have read around actonel and have not taken it yet as of the side effects please can you advice thanks.
Avatar n tn I take once monthly Actonel. While I was pushing the pill through the foil blister, it broke. I did not take that pill for fear that it could cause stomach problems. My question is would it have been safe to take? Also, if I contact Proctor & Gamble, do you think they might replace the pill. If it was a daily pill, I wouldn't worry about, but I just lost a whole month of medicine due to a faulty package design.
Avatar f tn Keep in mind that bone will form a callus, new bone around a fracture despitew displacement and if you wait too long the surgeon will literally have to re break the bone/bones.
11119474 tn?1428702170 The only draw back is some people over time can get cataracs or brittle bones and other side effects. With anything it is risk/benefit. But your doctor should monitor you. Many people with other diseases such as Lupus and brain tumors are on more steroids. Steroids work on inflammation they do not slow the progression of MS.
Avatar f tn t let me take things like actonel or that class of drugs as my osteoporosis affected the bones in my jaw and they are afraid to take the chance as with those drugs there is a risk. I was disappointmented about the forteo. I think that drug is more dangerous than its worth personally. Are you still working as an RN? I am not able to work now and I miss it so much. Let me know you turn out regarding the forteo.
Avatar f tn She started out with Fosamax, and after awhile when side effects start from that one, and Actonel was available, they put her on Actonel and she was on Actonel all the way up until it was stopped at 79. So, I have that in my mind (her being mom and my genes and all), and decided that I want to put off bone drugs as long as I can. If I can reverse this w/o them, than I'm going to.
1277602 tn?1271113477 For the past 20 years, I have not taken any milk or milk products (cheese, yogurt, butter) etc. Now I feel my bones are brittle, I get cramps and hear my bones make sounds when I sit for a long time or walk fast. My joints ache a lot. I have started to take 300 ml milk everyday now. Is there anything else I can do to enhance my calcium intake please help.
Avatar f tn It is good you have been checked by a doctor. I do not know what hypothyroidism is, but is sure sounds like something to do with the thyroid.. yet: "they say my thyroid was good." I assume "they" are/is a doctor. Watch out for weight gain if you eat much chocolate, it sure sticks to my bones, I have to avoid it, then I have a problem with a too high HR anyway. Shortness of breath could be related to a lack of blood oxygen due to the low HR...

Avatar f tn ve said it messes with your body entirely to much, not only will it give you fertility issues but it also cause brittle bones it is not safe to be on. Switching to another form of birth control is really the best option.
2020005 tn?1628125976 s had no ongoing issues, and temporary brittle bone disease resolves itself usually within the 1st year. And thank god he'll never remember it, because it was definitely the hardest thing I had to go through! DNP, it is humiliating! I'm sorry you had to go through that too, and soo glad it's over!
Avatar f tn m currently 8 weeks pregnant and will be having another CVS due to the fact that I have a genetic disorder called O.I. (brittle bones). If I could give you any advice about the CVS I would tell you to go on bed rest for 3 days after the CVS procedure because there is a slight chance of miscarriage and even tho I didn't miscarry I still had spotting for 2 days.
639543 tn?1297027634 We requested that test be made for possible temporary brittle bones disease and the pediatrician refuses to do the test. We are horrified and need help! They are possibly losing custody of her and I need to find someone in Central New York to perform these tests before it's too late. Please someone help our family!!!
Avatar f tn m getting concerned about this popping noise I hear every time my little girl moves around. I will be 30 weeks on Wednesday. I asked my doctor about it last visit and he stated that he's never heard of this before.. it sounds like an underwater popping of bones. Doc says nothing to worry about but it's still concerning my due to his confusion on it.. what could it be?! Should I be worried?? Thanks ladies!

Avatar m tn This condition increases your chances of suffering bone fractures, commonly in the hip, wrist and spine. In severe osteoporosis your bones are so brittle, coughing or falling can cause them to break. Having a BMI of 16 can leave you feeling tired and drained, with little energy, and one of the causes of this may be anemia. Anemia is a condition where your body does not have an adequate amount of healthy red blood cells.
Avatar f tn It is the act of cooking the bones that actually changes the properties of the bones, causing them to become brittle and potentially dangerous, though I have also head of the occassional hound that has gotten into the garbage and eaten the whole chicken carcass and survived (TADA!). The moral of my story is, things even "bad" things in moderation are not ALWAYS bad. Using sound judgement and having a couple drinks a week probably won't do a whole lots.
