Actonel and side effects

Common Questions and Answers about Actonel and side effects

actonel

Avatar f tn As you probably have read most all these drugs can have the same side effects .... keep in mind that not everyone experiences the same side effects and also not to the same degree. There are also studies that show spontaneous fractures can occur possibly as a result of some of these drugs. I would suggest that you and your Mum discuss this issue in detail with her Oncologist and make a decision based on what you learn there. Regards ....

Avatar n tn hi... according to a research....Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects. prolia may cause low calcium levels, especially if you have kidney problems. Take calcium and vitamin D as directed by your doctor. (See also How to Use section.) Your doctor will order calcium blood tests before your first injection and during treatment.
1129239 tn?1260027204 I would like to know if this has proven to stop osteoporosis from getting worst, and I am concern on the side affects of Reclast. I would appreciate any input and recommendation.
Avatar f tn After about 3 months, was having bad low back pain and pain on the top of both thighs. I then had a left rib fracture of unknown cause. At that time, no side effects like this were published. I did find a small group with similar symptoms but my Doc said it was not the Nexium. I stopped it and within 4 days, the flank and thigh pain were gone. I was later put on Omeprazole, 40 mg 2x a day fir the past few months. Not sure yet, but my low back muscles are killing me.
Avatar n tn One is the last lower tooth on R side and the other is the next to last tooth on L side. Neither shows when I smile. Any thoughts as to whether I can just have the extractions without the grafts? Avatar n tn Hello. This does not seem to be a side effect of Actonel. It is not documented. But still new side effects may emerge. Do you have any blood pressure issues ? High blood pressure does sometimes produce such symptoms. And if you are around your menopause, the burning of the head may be due to the hormonal imbalance.

Avatar f tn I have tried Actonel, Fosamax and Forteo to no avail for my osteoporsis (which is quite severe -4 Dexa). What are your recommendations? Have you knowledge on the NEW Prolia 6 month shot? Side effects? vs. the Reclast, One Yr. IV? I truly appreciate your expertise.

Avatar m tn In 2011, the agency voiced concerns that taking the drugs long-term may actually make bones weaker and increase the risk of rare but serious side effects such as atypical fractures of the thigh bone, esophageal cancer and osteonecrosis of the jaw, a rare but painful condition in which the jaw bone crumbles. To investigate, the FDA reviewed data from women who had taken the drugs for six to 10 years.
Avatar n tn I also do upper body strength training and walk a lot. (and I eat and drink tons of yogurt, take calcium, etc.) In the 8 years I've been treating I have completely reversed the situation, and moved from osteoporosis to osteopaenia to green on the dexxa scan in some sections of my spine and hips.
Avatar m tn I don't know of any other medication she can take that won't cause the side effects. Has she seen the doctor for the jaw and teeth pain and to see what else the doctor would recommend? She shouldn't suffer from side effects - that must be horrible for her.
Avatar n tn As you have implied, however, aromatase inhibitors can have side effects such as joint aches and pains as well as bone density loss. It should be noted that the anti-osteoporosis drug Evista is chemically similar to tamoxifen and it is not recommended that either tamoxifen or Evista be used in combination with an aromatase inhibitor as they may interfere with its activity. This is not true for bisphosphonates such as Actonel, which appear to be safe in this setting.
Avatar f tn Anyway, yes I have read the horrible side effects which one of them is definitely hair loss. Well, just the vasculitis alone can cause the hair loss not to mention the cytoxan and prednisone. I am sorry this is happening to you though. It sounds as if you have had vasculitis a very long time and could probably share alot of info with the rest of us who believe we may have it or know that they already have it.
Avatar f tn one in my belly, then another in my side, then sometimes in my rectum. Never for very long and never very painful. Just a short quick needlelike twinge. Could that be HP? And if you have HP is your stool normal like mine? Anyone please help if you have an idea. I really appreciate it.
Avatar n tn I am a breast cancer survivor, and have been through chemo, radiation, and am now on hormone therapy, taking Femara(my age is 69).Could you tell me some of the side effects of femara--what to worry about and what not to worry about? I don't want to be calling my oncologist all the time with questions. Thank you! I am also lately taking Actonel for osteoporosis and wonder if there are any interactions i should be concerned about.
Avatar f tn I spent six months trying to bring the cholesterol into the normal range - and succeeded (although it's still on the high side - the doc was happy) just by cutting down on dairy foods. When my TSH level was discovered to be 5.83 (I live in France so the levels may be different - normal range is from 0.18 - 3.00) I was then referred to an endocrinologist.
Avatar m tn My mother, who is in her late seventies, has recently suffered several incidents of bleeding from her sinus, and most recently from a nostril. On one occasion she lost nearly 2 pints of blood. She had a CT scan which revealed nothing. There has been a few attempts at cauterizing the bleeding areas, however the problem is recurring. The first incident occurred approximately six months ago.
Avatar f tn Hello, Alendronate causes reduction in bone loss, increases bone density and reduces the risk of spine, hip and other broken bones to a large extent in most of the people taking this drug. The few side effects of this medicine are nausea, heartburn; osteonecrosis of jaw bone .There have also been few reports of unusual fractures of the thigh bone in people taking bisphosphonate medicines. You definitely need to inform your doctor about this pain and get the cause detected. I hope it helps.

Avatar n tn I have started mega doses of supplements and calcium and D and excercise and I want someone to tell me that that has worked for them. Most comments I get is to take the drug because it's more effective. I can't believe everyone is taking bisphosphonates or other drugs like that. Please let me hear from you if you see this!,,, Thanks, and hope you are doing well!
Avatar f tn I have taken fosamax and actonel and have had stomach problems and aching bones. My doctor is thinking about the yearly injection of reclast. How safe is it and will I have more problems with my bones aching - I can't sleep at night a lot from the pain. Avatar f tn So much that I'm not even going to consider the Swine Flu vaccine. I'll just stay locked in my house all winter and only come out for food. What should I tell my doctor. He keeps prescribing me stuff like nothings wrong.... Here's what's going on: Ever since I stopped taking Advair, I've become hypersensitive to any and all drugs!! Everything from Prilosec to Tagament. From vitamins to digestive enzymes. From Albuterol Sulfate (in nebulizer) to Singulair.
Avatar f tn I am 71, just completed 2 years of Forteo injections with minor side effects and great results. Now my Dr. wants me to do either reclast or Evista. Being celiac sprue I have a very sensitive body- could not handle any Actonel or such. All I have read is bad stuff and do not know what to do. I would like to hear from other Celiac Sprue people who have used either the evista or recast.
Avatar m tn I did find this news interesting. It may present yet one more side effect of HCV and another benefit of treatment - or viral suppression or viral elimination. Happy New Year Kathy.
Avatar n tn Now he wants to put me on medication to control my heart rate. I don't want to take any more meds and have to deal with the side effects. When I am at home and doing my normal things, my pulse is 60-70. Do you feel I need to be medicated ? Is CBt an option ? What is the risk to my heart without medication ? Thanks, Carla.
211940 tn?1267884866 So at the risk of the side effects, I stopped taking it. After I have the time to go to the chiropractor and/or get and MRI I will share my diagnosis...if I even get one!
