Avatar n tn I took Accutane in the fall of 2004 and I experienced severe hair loss. (I'm a girl). My hair came out in handfulls for about 6 months. The large amount of hair that usually falls out after washing or brushing hair was falling out every half an hour if i ran my fingers through my hair. I lost about 60% of my hair. It stopped for a few months and started again for a few months to a lesser degree though. And now, 3.5 years later, it stills falls out more frequently than it should.
Avatar n tn However, this and other side effects wore off as my body got used to the medication. I had no side effects, except for dry lips, from 12 weeks onwards and took Accutane for 24 weeks. Side effects are generally dose related. Taking Accutane at the recommended dose for 16 to 24 weeks is your son's best hope of a long term remission from acne. The recommended dose is between 0.5 and 1mg x kg bodyweight per day. So your son should take between 30mg and 60mg per day because he weighs about 60kg.

Avatar n tn I was told that this was a known side effect, but that the hair would grow back. It has been over four years!!! My hair is uniformly thinned out across the entire scalp. I have seen an Endocrinologist who says that there are no hormonal issues - my Testosterone levels are in the low end of the acceptability range. The hair loss is a BIG HUGE issue for me. What do I do to generate regrowth in the follicles obviously damaged by Roaccutane.
Avatar m tn Hello, Hair abnormalities are a side effect of the drug Accutane and in most cases the hair should grow back once the drug treatment is completed. Your hair needs vitamins and minerals to grow that it can only get from the bloodstream. So if you want to speed up your hair growth and thickness you should limit the intake of fat and salts. Selenium, zinc and magnesium are some of the minerals that your hair needs and also amino acids will help in growing hairs.

Eat a healthy nutritious diet and consult your doctor if weight loss is a major problem. You may need to be put on some other medication for acne rather than Accutane. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor.
Avatar n tn Is there a strong correlation between hair thinning/loss with accutane patients? Should she be concerned about permanent hair loss? If her hair is thinning, is this permanent as well or temporary?
Avatar m tn Hives often indicate a serious drug reaction. The post-Accutane period is the most unknown. Many have no backlash side effects and that's great, but for others sometimes things start going down-hill and sometimes this is when side effects decide to emerge that would traditionally emerge during treatment (e.g. joint pain, flushing, redness, rosacea, depression, chronic fatigue, Seb derm, hair loss.. even teeth breaking).

Avatar f tn Is this documented that Accutane does cause premature epiphyseal closure? If so why is this drug being prescribed and why isn't this on the long list of side effects. My son was on this and he has not grown since, or while taking it. He was just past his 14th birthday when he took it. His acne was severe and it is also now back. It did clear up for a short time. He is only 5, 5. I started typing in about accutane and growth and have come up with a long list of concerncs about growth.

If it's consistently over 100, you should talk to your cardio about that. It's not normal or healthy. Your meds may need to be adjusted.

I couldn't brush my hair because huge clumps would fall out.

Avatar m tn For the past few months, I've been losing a lot of eyebrow hair. In the beginning, it was only a few hairs which I thought was completely normal but I began to notice that as the months went by, I was losing a lot of hairs at the same time on both my eyebrows, every single day. Lately, my brows have also been itchy and the skin on my eyebrows have been so so flakey which leads to more hair loss.
