m no longer in pain (the cracked tooth is a little loose) but its been going on 3 days of antis and no change has occurred, is that normal? should I go back to the doctor? or is it normal for it to be taking a little while? I am on 3 doses of each a day which I believe is alot to not see any results almost 3 days in?
What do you mean by shrinking? As in the bone around the teeth is shrinking away and the teeth are getting looser?
You should get a dental checkup and find out what's causing the bone loss and to remove the broken tooth which could be a potential abscess site. The continued bone loss is worrisome and can accelerate and be more difficult to keep under control the longer its neglected.

A loose crown can lead to lodgement of bacteria under it and cause bad odour.Other causes of bad breath from mouth are tooth decay, sinus disease or gum diseases or reflux disease. Tonsilloliths can also cause bad breath, sore throat, white debris, difficulty in swallowing and tonsillar swelling .These are only possibilities.
My tooth seems to becoming loose and the area above the tooth in the gums has become inflammed possibly turning in to an abscess, no pain at the moment. Has the treatment failed or something, my dental surgeon said it will be extracted if it fails as there was a 50% chance of the tooth actually being saved (the other 50% chance that it would fail). Does it look like my tooth will be extracted?
I went to my regular dentist on 1/13/06 and xrays showed a large abscess in tooth #10, as well as a smaller abscess in tooth #20. On 1/17/06 I had a RCT done on tooth #10, as well as an incision in the roof of my mouth behind that tooth to help extract the infection. On 1/19/06, I had a RCT done on tooth #20, with one 0.05mm post placed. I have been on Antibiotics since 1/13/06, taking Penicillin VK 500mg QID, so I'm now on my Eighth day of antibiotics.

I have two broken teeth (#19 and #30) that I've been told both need root canals. The left one is half done (the endodontist did the root canal but put in medicine and placed a temp. filling for two weeks until I come back to finish it up) but the right one hasn't had any work done yet. I kept getting ear infections and tooth pain, so I've been placed on pain meds and amoxicillin/z-pak for the past month to keep things under control (not continuously mind you.

Most x-rays will not provide excellent clarity of a crowned tooth, thus missing the decay. If you are having pain, the tooth under the crown is inflamed, infected and bacteria are usually the cause. Antibiotics may provide some temporary partial relief but will likely not cure the problem. A root canal is most likely needed, and a dentist can do this, but the best is to see an Endodontics, which is a specialist for doing root canals.
Last weekend, I started having pretty significant pain in one of my molars. Painful to the touch, can't bite down on it, sometimes throbbing. I also felt some minor swelling under my jaw on the right side, but not a lot.
No fever. On Monday (yesterday), I saw my dentist. He took x-rays and examined it, but said he didn't see any abscess or infection.

It does sound like it could possibly be a tooth infection/abscess. If it gets really painful your dog will probably stop eating. But often dogs with tooth problems keep on eating anyway, unless it's really bad. I'd eliminate that possibility first.
Is it easy for you to examine your dog's mouth? Sounds like it would be on the bottom jaw. You might see something. Or get the vet to check him out. If it is this, antibiotics will likely sort it.
I woke up on monday morning in extreme pain and with a completely swollen top lip, stretched nose and puffy cheek. Having no idea what was wrong I went to the doctors and was put on amoxcillin (they weren't sure what was wrong as the abscess isn't visible, it is really high up under my lip and quite large).
An old root canal had developed an abscess. The tooth was very difficult to extract and the dentist had to focibly rock the tooth back and forth to get it loose enough to remove. The tooth came out fully in tact. However, I now have a very painful, sharp bony protrusion on the outside of the gum area of the extraction. Is this some kind of broken or crushed socket?
i just noticed , my dog suddenly had a swollen ball under his eye. what could this be from?? he is eating and drinking and acting normal except the ball under his eye stands out very much and it only occurred minutes ago..

Horizontal fracture of root is generally revealed by x-ray. Vertical fracure in the early stage can not be detected by x-ray. However, cilinical symptoms such as abscess or gum swelling may occur. In addition, a surgical exploration can reveal a crack line.Short post is probably not the cause of clinical symptoms. If there is no radiographic pathology identified on x-ray, redo root canal is probably not helpful.

I have been to several doctors including an ENT for my ear problems. I have had sinus pain/ pressure/ and
migraines. The ENT subscribed something but it didnt work. The other doctor said theres nothing wrong with me.
Instead of saying, " I dont know whats wrong with you, I would have preferred that or recommend me to another doctor or specialist. In my mind, I was thinking I am fine but its all in my head, as my doctor pretty much put it.
If you have an infection under a crown you will need to get the tooth treated if you plan on keeping the tooth. If it is decay, you will lose the tooth if you leave it untreated. If you have an abscess, you may lose the tooth and if the infection is left untreated it could possibly lead to septicemia or death (depending on location).
You should see your dentist.
I developed an abscess in my lower left molar which hurt quite a bit. It was on a tooth than previously had a root canal performed on it. I was put on antibiotics, but the abscess moved into my cheek and my face became huge. My Endo. was unable to drain the abscess because of where it was located (under my cheek muscle), but went ahead and did the re-do root canal anyway after I was on antibiotics for four days.
Over a year ago I noticed a lump in my jaw, under where the tooth was. But I never really had a toothache, maybe just a couple times and very short lived, like a couple hours. Is that "normal"?
I had the tooth pulled yesterday. The dentist said that now that the tooth is gone, the lump will go away too. It's way too swollen and painful to touch right now, but how long should it take for the lump to go away? I'm also on Penicillin V K, for 8 days now.
It is only a bit of plastic between two teeth. It is also loose and everytime I eat it feels loose. It is my front tooth. When I go to the dentist he says don't put pressure on it. the roof of my mouth were also getting swollen and sore (on the same side only) .. very similar to the feeling i have had before when i had an abscessed tooth that needed to be pulled, however in that case, i KNEW where the pain was originating from .....the pain got so bad last night i was literally shaking....a couple days ago, i started pressing different areas on my cheek and nose on that side & realized the MOST PAINFUL spot of all was the crease between my left nostril....
There were thoughts about the crown material being cheep and eminating a smell once a bit loose, bacteria forming under the crown, sinus punctures when the root canal was done, and the last thing I read was someone saying their periodontist was going to take the crown out and file it down flat so there were no air pockets for bacteria to form.

I've been on Amoxicillin for 5 days for a tooth abscess. I went to the dentist for significant facial swelling, and was diagnosed with the abscess. The swelling has gone down, however I now have a pus pocket on my gum above my molars. It's only painful when I touch it, but I can see the swelling under my cheek when I smile. Since I'm already on Amoxicillin, can I pop the abscess using a sterilized needle? It's Friday night, and the dentist won't be in until Monday...
You should really take care of that broken tooth before it gets worse and can result in an abscess where the infection spreads.
As for the pain, its possible you may have something going on with the other tooth as well or what we term, referred pain. Referred pain is when there's pain in one area but it feels like its somewhere else due to the complexities of the nervous system of the head.
