abilify dosage for anxiety

I tried Abilify with my antidepressant. After a few months on Abilify, my anxiety was actually worse. I noticed that the Abilify caused me to be agitated and restless (like I couldn't get confortable or sit still, kind of jittery) Abilify is really ment more to aid in the treatment of depression than it is anxiety. It's designed to be used as an antidepressant add on drug to give a bit more antidepressant punch rather than an anti-anxiety punch. Bad idea I think.

I have been taking the lexapro for almost 2 weeks now for anxiety/panic. After 4 days of just half a dose (5mg) I felt really strange and depressed. Alittle better now, but still down more so then before the lexapro. Is this something that goes away once you're on the med for awhile? I already had severe anxiety with panic, I don't want to add deppression on because of the meds, if this is the case. Now the dr. wants me to try the 5 mg of lexapro and 2.

I just found out a friend has been on the medicine venlafaxine for the highest dosage and his psychiatrist put him on abilify too recently. What does this imply? He has schizophrenia? He's a psycho? Any thought would be appreciated!

I have recently started 200mg Lamictal and 20mg Lexapro and it seems to be working for me, controls the depression and anxiety. If that combination was working for you I don't understand why your doc took you off it, but that's his call. I am never afraid to try new meds that my doctor recommends, because as triedeverymed says, if the new stuff doesn't help in a couple of weeks, then go back to the old meds or try another new one.

Usually, medications like Abilify are used as a supplemental medication, in addition to an antidepressant one is already taking. The idea is for the Abilify to help the AD work a little bit better. I have bipolar II, Major depression and generalized anxiety. I have been working with my psychiatrist for 10+ years to find a combination of medications to relieve my symptoms. I have been taking Wellbutrin XR, Lexapro and Klonopin (as needed.) Last year we added Abilify and the results were incredible. I came out of a very dark place, laughed, chatted, felt positive emotions and, for the first time in 15 years, felt like a "normal" person.

I saw a doctor, told I have panic disorder (I think I have Agoraphobia too, but I was not told that) and was prescribed Paxil, with Xanax as needed. I took the Paxil for a few years, making a few dosage changes along the wayI never needed to take a Xanax and I didn't have any panic attacks, but it made me more depressed and lethargic over time. I also too it with Wellbutrin for about a year but didn’t feel any benefits from that. I was then put on Effexor.

Sometimes, Abilify will be used as an adjunct treatment, along with another antidepressant, to treat anxiety or depression (more often depression). The addition of the Abilify to another antidepressant is done to improve the effectiveness of the AD (which of course is all speculation).

Inquire about halving the Abilify dosage. Additionally, Xanax is not indicated for long-term use. The drug tends to lose its efficacy over the long-term, particularly at higher dosages.

I tried Abilify for three months as an add on to my antidepressant. For me it really didn't do much except make me very agitated. It didn't worsen my anxiety, but it caused a weird agitated kind of feeling that I did not like.

I'm so sorry that you are having trouble with your meds. I have gone through a lot of different meds and up and down depression and anxiety trying to find the right combination of meds that would work for me. It's really frustrating to go through and I completely understand what you are going through. It takes a while for antidepressants to build up in your system for them to start working. It usually takes about 4 to 6 weeks.

I was in the psychiatric ward and given abilify. They thought I was schizophrenic and I was not at all. It was a horrible drug, could not keep eyes open or think. Be careful with abilify, but for someone with schizo it could be great. Im on zoloft 200 and it does not do much. It helps a little with the deep dark depressive feelings and just a tad on the anxiety.

so not sure if i should just take the abilify 2mg for a little whil and see if thats ok then talk to the dr about tapering off...I just dont want to be on all these diff meds you know???

t know why my doc prescribed Abilify. All I know is that I went in for general anxiety, and the nurse said something about Abilify stabilizing the celexia, or something like that. I don't remember.

Taken several SSRIs in the past for anxiety. Adderall XR for ADD, Wellbutrin too. I have been seeing a therapist for about 4 months and he had me go for a psychiatry evaluation a few days ago. The two concrred that I am "complex" and could be a combination of BiPolar 2, Adult ADD and even...Borderline Personality Disorder (god I hate that name). Anyhow, one of the main symptoms we all agreed upon was the mood swings.

I'm on week 3 of Pristiq after Cymbalta pooped out on me after 5 successful yrs on it. First tried to switch me to Zoloft and that made me worse (February 2014). Until 3 weeks ago, they tried to add things to the Cymbakta (Abilify, buspar) but it wasn't working (for deoression/anxiety). 3 weeks ago to Pristiq 50mg.

s so hard to find the right medication. Abilify is also not known for weight gain. If you are doing good, try to stay on it because changing meds can be absolute hell. I went off abilify and went through a few months of suffering on other drugs before I came right bck to it.

If the Abilify works except for panic attacks, why don'y you see about adding an antidepressant first? The reason I say that is Lamictal is a great drug but it takes 5 weeks to build up to the appropriate dose. Everyone goes on a 5 week starter pack. That's a long time, while Celexa and Lexapro for example work within 2-3 weeks. They help with panic attacks. This is provided Abilify helps you, if not, I would see about switching too.

Benifits,......less long term damage? Would this also address anxiety or would you still need a drug for that?

I've also heard Abilify is activating. After being on it for a month, my own opinion of it is whatever it was doing to me was very weird. I was always moving. Tapping my feet, fidgeting, shaking and twisting my hands. I felt like I was bouncing around. And then my heart would start racing and I would literally have to grab onto something and hold on while this surge was just racing through me. It was like panic but, much much worse. So.... I won't be trying that one again.
