Avatar f tn I just found out a friend has been on the medicine venlafaxine for the highest dosage and his psychiatrist put him on abilify too recently. What does this imply? He has schizophrenia? He's a psycho? Any thought would be appreciated!
1356915 tn?1277344103 It (Abilify) was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for schizophrenia on November 15, 2002, for acute manic and mixed episodes associated with bipolar disorder on October 1, 2004, and as an adjunct for major depressive disorder on November 20, 2007.
Avatar f tn Some say it does.
5877513 tn?1375915002 s a site specifically geared towards meds, and they have an entire forum section devoted to Abilify. And they have people who know a fair amount about the neurotransmitters.

585414 tn?1288941302 Abilify has the least potential to cause this. Abilify and Geodon are activating and can make some people feel anxious. As for Fanapt and Saphris they are newly released and are clinically similar to Abilify but that doesn't mean they will have the exact same profile. If someone hasn't responded to or has difficulties with the antipsychotics they've tried those are two new options they could ask their psychiatrist about.
642393 tn?1227032656 I went to the doc about an hour ago and he gave me effexor and Abilify i know nothing about it could you plz tell me about it? are they any side effects? Does it help and how long does it take to start helping??
Avatar f tn Is Strattera a better stimulant drug for ADD than the others as far as not making schizophrenia symptoms worse? I am considering trying Strattera and have heard that it is the only non-narcotic available for ADD. I also have breathing problems and faintness at times which is a concern with ADD drugs and schizophrenia drugs as well... If anyone has tried this drug for ADD and has Schizophrenia and has had no problems with it I'd like to know about YOUR experience with it before I try it...

Avatar f tn My 13 year old daughter has ADHD and ODD and is unmanageable in her moods and impulsivity at home. She has tried many medications that don’t do much. She is also in therapy. She is currently on Latina and it isn’t helping much. Any advice on medications that may help my daughters mood and attention in school without causing major weight gain?
1280947 tn?1278376332 Medicine isnt helping me and i never thought it would. I'm on abilify 20mg and nothing is happening. i was on stratera for a while for adhd and bipolar but im not bipolar im depressed. the doctors say i have some sort of mood disorer but havent picked it out yet. Im pining it on depression and depression alone. i have insomnia. i dont hurt myself nor want to. I am unhappy, and medicines arent going to fix that. i think theyre all crazy. whatever. advice would be nice.
Avatar n tn Actually Ativan is more for anxiety and Abilify is more for depression but it can also help with anxiety. This is common practice, trust in your doctor. Best wishes.
Avatar f tn ve seen positive results with Abilify when used to treat the psychotic illnesses its designed to treat (schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, etc), and have seen some people report that adding it to their regimen for the treatment of depression has been successful. I haven't seen it commonly Rx'ed for the treatment of anxiety disorder. I think your son needs to have a pow wow with the doc to discuss if this is the right med for him. What other meds has he tried?
Avatar m tn Went to docs with unrelated problems but in talking my anxiety was evident and she asked about depression and I told her I wasn't suicidal and no desire to hurt myself or anyone else just was having a difficult time seeing the good in anything. Everyday tasks seemed very hard to do. Zero motivation although i do function well enough to get thru my days. i have never taken antidepressants before I am 33 yo male. She recommended I try meds.
Avatar f tn The hallucinations were auditory and visual as well. The come and go, but on the abilify they are gone. My GP just SUGGESTED it was aggitated depression...which would explain the hallucinations and dillusions. I am in the U.K now and they are reviewing my charts. In American they dianosed me with schizophrenia, and late with bipolar, but they found out it was wrong. They finally agreed that I had schizoid affective disorder. Anyway, there is no clear route yet and all of them seem wrong to me.
Avatar f tn I am also on 200mg of lamotrigine and 50mg of Trazodone. I took my first full dose of Abilify on Friday the 6th and today is the 11th The Abilify is working about 70%. I have been crying more, I wrote a big long blog about how life is useless because I can't work full time and be a parent and all those other 'normal' things the drug companies promise you that you can do if you just take their drug. I am feeling not depressed but more morose, and just generally in a slump.
Avatar n tn You might want to ask your psychiatrist about Rozerem an FDA approved medication that works like melatonin to adjust the sleep cycle and is safe and non addictive. The two newly approved antipsychotics Saphris and Fanapt work like Abilify in that they are serotonin dopamine antagonists (a slightly different class of antipsychotics than the ones before) so they might all have activating properties but for full information go to the medication website and of course speak to your psychiatrist.
444937 tn?1307226385 I do not think you were misdiagnosed to have schizophrenia. And the present symptoms of relapse of schizophrenia have probably come due to the inadequate action of the drug. You have probably developed tolerance. You may need to consider increasing the dose. As far as the other symptoms are considered, there is a possibility that those are due to some physical ailment. I would have your inner ear examined and have your neurological examination done.
Avatar n tn Abilify (aripipazole) is indicated for the treatment of schizophrenia. The efficacy of Abilify in the treatment of schizophrenia was established in short-term (4- and 6-week) controlled trials of schizophrenic inpatients. The long-term efficacy of aripiprazole in the treatment of schizophrenia has not been established. The physician who elects to use Abilify for extended periods should periodically reevaluate the long-term usefulness of the drug for the individual patient.
