Avatar m tn My 5 year old has been picking her scabs on and off for a year now. She seems to have seasonal allergies also. I have noticed when she is on generic Zyrtec for the allergies she doesn't pick as much or stops all together. Then after a meeting with her teacher it was brought to my attention that when she is picking a lot her school work suffers.

Avatar m tn I can complete relate! About 14 years ago I had severly itchy skin for about 2 years. It would normally start itching when my air hit my skin. So for instance, when i would get home from work and be in the process of changing my legs would go crazy. When my back or butt cheeks itch I get welts when I scratch. Anyway, zyrtec did the trick then. I took it every day. I ran out one day and realized that itchiness was gone! Now it has come back.
689528 tn?1364135841 s control, like this time of year ,he gets a prednisone per day for 3 or 4 days and then every other day for two or until things calm down. Zyrtec can be expensive, but we actually found a generic brand at the dollar store! $1. for 14 pills, so we clear their shelves! Our poor boy suffered until we found this new vet, every other night, we would do oatmeal baths, benedryl cream, benedryl pills, alcohol rubs, ice.. it was heartbreaking. We can totally relate.
714275 tn?1295226265 Hello, It can be due to dry skin or xerosis which can cause itchy skin. Dry skin usually results from environmental factors that you can wholly or partially control. These include hot or cold weather with low humidity levels, long-term use of air conditioning or central heating, and washing or bathing too much. You can apply an anti-itch cream or lotion to the affected area. Oral antihistamine, such as Benadryl can also be used.
Avatar f tn I have been extremely itchy as well. My doc said to take benadryl or zyrtec. Use a good moisturizer too.
Avatar f tn The doctor has prescribed me Zyrtec and said to take it once a day and it has controlled the itchiness and welts so far which is heaven for me but if i accidently scratch myself anywhere on my skin then i still get welts raised on my skin but not as itchy and it goes away after few hours or so.
Avatar f tn She has been suffering for 7 months now. We have seen 2 allergists and had skin testing done. It was determined that she is allergic to dust mites only. She was placed on Zyrtec 1mL/mg, 5 mL q daily. This helped but did not completly get rid of the urticaria. About a month ago she developed an itchy rash on her knees, elbows and anterior wrists. At the time they were just sporadic bumps. The bumps soon merged and formed plaques in these areas.
492921 tn?1321289896 When it was horribly itchy I use the Palmers Coca Butter OIL (not cream) for dry irritated skin and it helped. But I hated the smell. Now I just apply Johnons and Johnsons Moisturising body lotion as its non greasy (I hate the geasy creamy feeling after piling on certain body lotions) and it goes into your skin very quickly. I tried The Body Shop's Shea Butter but found it too greasy too. Jergens was too greasy to me too.
Avatar n tn Have you tried finding a pure skin lotion to lather him with at night? My son also has a rare skin condition that causes his skin to be unable to retain its own moisture and therefore is painfully itchy.
Avatar f tn I got stung by a wasp twice on Sunday (first on my forearm then the spot below my thumb) and as expected both site swelled up. Later saw a doctor and was prescribed Zyrtec (pills - 10mg), betamethasone (pills) and fluocinolone (cream). The last two contain steroids and I only took Zyrtec and the cream as I'm scared that steroids might break down my immune system. Both sites aren't swollen now but still a bit painful. A blister has formed on the first sting site.

Avatar n tn could you have bed bugs in your house? other then that - it sounds like an allergic reaction to something...have you started eating anything new? different? any ingrediants changed? How about soaps and detergents? I was highly allergic to my bar soap but, it wouldn't bother me until 3pmm or so when your body temps are at the highest and I'd be all itchy...have you tried Zyrtec? Avatar n tn They are flat and not tender to the touch. Nothing is itchy or painful. They come and go in redness, but have lingered for over a month now. When the redness goes, my skin becomes dry and peels off. There is no discharge and I have yet to find any pictures or publications that look simlar to or describe what I have.
Avatar f tn I have had itchy tingling arms for over 20 years. I have been to so many doctors, I've lost count. Some say it's allergys. Some say it's stress. Some creams work for a while. I've taken alot of allergy meds. Zyrtec seemed to help more than the others. I also take Doxipen. the Dr. just doubled my dose. I have a steriod cream that I use as well. It only helps during the day for a while.

Avatar n tn Hello, It can be due to cold urticaria. Cold urticaria is diagnosed by holding an ice cube against the skin of the forearm for 1 to 5 minutes. A distinct hive should develop if a patient has cold urticaria. Patients with cold urticaria should learn to protect themselves from a rapid drop in body temperature.Antihistaminics like Claritin and zyrtec can also be taken. The antihistamine cyproheptadine (Periactin) has been found to be a useful treatment also.

Avatar f tn I am on week 11 of treatment, interferon and riba, about 2 weeks ago, my scalp started to get very itchy, I have used a variety of different shampoos for dandruff, none seem to work on helping the itch. It seems to be worse in the evening when I'm finally relaxing. Is this common and does anyone have any suggestions?
Avatar f tn It could be something else for sure. Skin rashes are tough to diagnose sometimes. No one on here will be able to diagnose the rash. The doctor really needs to see that kind of thing. I hope this helps.

Avatar n tn Herpes simplex is most easily transmitted by direct contact with a lesion or the body fluid of an infected individual. Transmission may also occur through skin-to-skin contact during periods of asymptomatic shedding. The only way of ruling it out is by getting yourself tested for genital herpes. Laboratory tests include: culture of the virus, direct fluorescent antibody (DFA) studies to detect virus, skin biopsy, and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to test for presence of viral DNA.
