My 5 year old has been picking her scabs on and off for a year now. She seems to have seasonal allergies also. I have noticed when she is on generic Zyrtec for the allergies she doesn't pick as much or stops all together. Then after a meeting with her teacher it was brought to my attention that when she is picking a lot her school work suffers.
t been able to keep me off of antihistamines long enough to do a skin test. The allergist took lots of blood and all of the main 30 allergies they checked for were negative.
It has been 2 years since all of that happened. I have been feeling much better on my vitamin D and zyrtec regiment. Here we are 2 years down the road and I woke up in the middle of the night with the left side of my cheek swollen up. I went to urgent care center in the morning and took 2 Benadryl before I went.
Zyrtec and benadryl. Zyrtec doesn't work for me, and benadryl makes me so tired. So my Dr gave me flonase and said to take the benadryl at night.
For ladies with Allergies what are you taking or doing. Claritin just doesn't seem to be doing the job. I am a stuffy, sneezey mess with watery eyes half the time. And I need to function so Benadryl is not an option unless I am able to sleep all day.
Other treatment options include oral antihistaminics like benadryl and Claritin or non sedating antihistaminics like zyrtec; Topical or oral decongestants for rhinitis and nasal congestion; topical steroids for skin rashes and itching; oral steroids in more severe cases and bronchodilators in cases of difficulty in breathing and wheezing.
These medications all help to relieve short term symptoms of allergic reactions. However, there is a way of preventing the long term symptoms of allergies.
My daughter is 5 and a halfyears old and her doctor has been treating her for the past year with prevacid solutab 15mg daily, which at first relieved her symptoms after a couple of weeks until recently. She is a very active child, she enjoys tumbling and running and cheerleading. Lately she complains that her stomach hurts, she can't breathe and when she states that she tries to take a deep breath and she says "I can't Breathe".
Nothing works for me, but Benadryl. My doctor said Claritan and Zyrtec are safe, they just don't work for me. I started taking either half of a regular Benadryl during the day (so I won't get sleepy, haha) or children's Benadryl (it's about the same as half of a regular one). That seems to make my allergies tolerable throughout the day.
I am a major allergy sufferer! Clarifying and Zyrtec are safe to take. However! Do not get the ones with the "D" added onto them (claritin d) because that is either not studied enough yet or not recommended. I take claritin as needed. "They" say it might be bad for allergies this spring with the late start. Exercise indoors. Take care and hopeb this is helpful. We are also allowed Benadryl but that you would need to call about. ...
Anyone else have their allergies act crazier than usual while pregnant? I'm about 4/5 weeks and I'm sneezing a lot, my nose is stuffy & runny,I'm coughing and I just feel blah! I was taking Zyrtec and Nasonex spray, but recently stopped when I discovered I was preggo. I just got benadryl, gunna give it a shot tonight. Would rather take something that won't make me drowsy though.
Has he actually been tested for food allergies, so you know what to stay away from?
Do you have him on any kind of antihistamine?
Since his episodes come and go he should also be tested for weed, tree, and grass pollens.
It wouldn't hurt to have him see a dermatologist to rule out any other underlying skin problem.
The dermatologist will most likely perform a skin test for allergies. If positive, an appropriate treatment can be implemented. The are oral medications that can be prescribed, other than steroids, that may help as well.
I always try to find alternatives to long term steroid use due to the potential side effects.

Check your home for molds , etc and see an allergy doctor for skin tests . Do you have cats? Control the enviroment , for ex , wrap the mattress in plastic covering , wash pillows every week in hot water to kill dust mites , etc I don't think your husband is causing you allergies but mind is very powerful and if you are thinking you might get cold from him who knows the immune system might be reacting..
Has he been scratching frequently? Allergies can cause dry spots on a dogs skin, hot spots is there common termonology, and it is allergy season. My pooch would get them along with other itchy and swollen symptoms. Now he gets zyrtec everyday and the spots and other symptoms have all but disappeared. Check the skin in his ears, and around his belly. If you notice red blotches, I would suspect allergies. Consult a reputable vet to be sure. Good luck.
