Common Questions and Answers about Workplace stress depression

stress

Avatar f tn The two that were in the bipolar forum one on whether a person is looking for employment and would accept a job as related to coping with issues from depression in the workplace and one on techniques for coping with stress (that might have been a question not a poll but it could be made into one) might work.
Avatar f tn I know exactly how you feel and I react exactly the same to work stress. My only answer for myself is that I've decided to quit my job and look for something less high profile. I think we have to be aware of our 'stress vulnerability' with Bipolar, it really is a very big trigger, possibly the biggest trigger of all to mood episodes. As ILAD says I think we have to learn what coping skills work for each of us. Work stress drove me to drinking badly, and made my BP even worse.

Avatar f tn I am 38 and I have Bipolar 1 and in 2001 or 2002 I had my first full blown psychotic manic episode. I also have GAD and OCD. I do not have repeative behaviors, but repitative thoughts plaque me. After release from the hospital I tried medications and saw a counselor for a couple of years with no progress and had been denied disability.
Avatar m tn Obstructive sleep apnea could be a reason for you to wake up frequently in order to regain your breath—sometimes resulting in number of awakenings per night, many times you may not even be aware of it ending up having excessive daytime sleep because of fatigue, feeling unrefreshed after sleeping, and daytime sleep attacks (nodding off at inappropriate or unexpected moments) at your workplace. Added to all these the stress you are going through can be a trigger.
Avatar m tn I have suffered from depression since the death of my daughter in 2007. I finally sought help in 2009. It just seems to get harder and harder and I have hit an all time low. I stopped working and I am on short term disability. I thought once the stress of work was gone I would feel like a new person.....WRONG! I am worse than I have ever been. I have been seeing my Psychiatrist monthly and my therapist weekly.
975514 tn?1324997938 I wanted to start a thread for those of us who have CFS and or FMS and are dealing with stress in the workplace. For those of us who are still working, the economy in the US and perhaps in the UK too has been extremely tense over the last couple of years. This has compounded the pressures I think we usually feel at work dealing with our illness and managing our careers. How do you all do it? I find myself struggling to keep a healthy balance.
762420 tn?1246288612 Depression is a tought thing to deal with, I've had problems at work to, and it affected my performance. Do you have a psychiatrist? Or could you get a referral to one? Are you on meds and/or have a therapist? If it's affecting your life, especially if it's impacting you financially, you need to see a pdoc. Getting on meds will really help with the depression as well, especially if it's been going on for 3 months or more.
Avatar m tn am going to past out, my blood pressure goes up also and it also contributes to the diziness. but when i go out from the workplace everythings return to normal. can anybody have some tips to help me cope with this.
Avatar n tn Sounds like stress and your depression is playing a major role in your delayed periods. It could also be that you're off the meds that was helping to regulate you periods. I would go see your doctor and explain everything to them. They'll be able to do the right tests and to prescribe something to help you with your periods and your depression. I would also (if you can afford it) talk to a therapist.
10452875 tn?1436484351 Look into what HR has for workplace accommodation, that might include you needing to sit whenever you need to. If its not something they can accommodate they might be able to release you early for leave. Look into it.
Avatar f tn I just found out that I lost my work today because I cannot stay well in a workplace that has clorox, paint, polyurethane, bacteria, with NO return air. I am in a very specialized field--I teach newly arrived refugees from Burma, Africa, etc. tospeak English. It may be too late, but is there any kind of mask I could get and still teach--I guess, however, that it would have to cover nose, mouth and eyes--maybe I coul wear it half the time. I need/love the work.
Avatar f tn My EKG Echo test said while exercising, 1mm horizontal depression see in anterolaterol and inferior leads, meeting Ischemic criteria. Occasional APCs were seen. Can someone please explain this too me?
Avatar n tn It definitely sounds as though you were in a hostile work environment that caused you a great deal of stress and eventually caused you to have to seek a new position. The fact that your immediate supervisor was involved rather than trying to help you is also deplorable...and wrong. However, the burden of proof in a legal situation is on you. If the new job caused you to take a pay cut, then you certainly could seek damages for the loss of income, not to mention rank.
1102290 tn?1278499953 so maybe I should bring this all up again to him in 2 weeks... Question - how do you deal with your stress - and do you think that my stress could be causing the eating issues and not the pregnancy? Thanks!
429326 tn?1282328354 As for the neuro telling you about the symptoms of stress/depression, I would take her remarks under consideration, but why take them as the bottom line? Would you let the dentist diagnose a foot problem? I would think that you have nothing to lose by meeting with a therapist if such an option is available to you. I did this after being told by a neuro that my symptoms were stress-related. I actually consutled two psychologists.
