i have high blood pressure (and clonidine is a blood pressure med), but my doctor is mainly prescribing it for me as a SLEEP AID to try to keep me off of the benzos for sleep purposes (which have always worked so well for me!)....i'm curious about two things though.....one, how much has anyone taken strictly for sleep purposes? and two, have you had ANY problems stopping it if you want/need to?
I am sorry I don't know the answer, but I really want to now. I mean, is this what I am in for when I am able to stop completely?
I was put on Clonidine for almost a year now and so far it has helped me, I'm on a very low dosage, 0.025mg in the am and lunch and 0.050mg at dinner and bedtime, it took a few months to find the right combination, I still get the chest pounding and bp still rises at times more than other times but overal is better.
My son, who is 9, was given a prescription for clonidine about a month ago, we just finished our first bottle of 30 pills. I have not seen much of a difference with his tics. His were vocal and facial. His vocal has decreased some, but I think that is more so with the other methods we are working on with him. However, his tics got considerably worse if he was tired.
My dad takes warfarin and the generic of Toprol for A-fib. For a long time the med for the A-fib was very expensive. I asked the pharmacist if there were less expensive meds that would work. We met with his doctor and were able to change several medications to much less expensive ones. It couldn't be done with all of them but every little bit helps.

Clonidine and clonazapam have made my detox bearable. It's horrible no doubt about it but I ct'd a couple years back without anything and it was much much worst. Just make sure you get a BP machine (pharmacy) Everyone's blood pressure is different (mine is low naturally) I've been taking clonidine for awhile-I was doing a slow wean and taking it at night ensured that I slept through without needing to take breakthrough pain meds.
As always, I recommend that parents have a close working relationship with the prescribing physician and understand exactly what the medication is, what it is intended to affect, what the side effects are, how direct and side effects will be monitored, and how decisions about dose increases and decreases will be made.
my doctor gave me clonidine to take at night with my regurlar blood pressure medicine in the am and i read up on it and it said don't take with rx pain meds so I haven't but I also noticed that it is used for w/d's so how long do you have to wait after your out of pain meds can you start taking it?
Duvanta is not listed as an American drug so you can't know what it is used for. Also I don't know that India has an equivalent for the FDA so it may vary in strength and contents.
The generic name for Cymbalta is Duloxetine Hydrochloride so Kitty may be getting Cymbalta but the same concern applies as listed above.
