Is metoprolol and amlodipine safe to take?Since I am 38 only what would be its long term effects. That is taking the drug for over 30 years? Finally whether the dosage may be changed? Please help.
I'll be interested in input on this question. I've taken Amlodipine for many years and always had a similar heart rate (fast but not out of control). Last April a cardiologist added a beta blocker to help control an intermittent irregular rhythm. It's worked for the arrhythemia but of course has also dropped my heart rate and blood pressure.
I don't like to be on any more meds than really necessary.

You should discuss with your doctor, but from what you tell me it sounds like you do not have any problem with the low HR. I assume the 44 is only when fully at rest and the HR will come up when you engage in some physical activity.
A dose of 100 mg is a "high" dose in my book. How is the BP? I have taken as much as 200 mg of Metoprolol to slow down a fast HR... but it gave me too many side effects.

After this happened 3 times, I was able to convince her. The amlodipine is great for the spasms, and the nitro works every time for me. I take the nitrostat under my tongue. There is a lot of reading on the internet if you know what to look for. You could try researching "small vessel disease, vasopspams, unstable angina or microvessel disease or even Cardiac Syndrome X. The chest pain with these spasms are never brought on by exertion.
Had a large tumor and total thyroidectomy removed 3 weeks ago. The past few days having dull but strong headaches that go into my ear, down my jaw into my neck. I'm taking 100 mcg of Levothyroxine a day and 2 Calcitrol a day. My calcium was very low after surgery.
My solution has been to take only one tablet every other day, by missing out a day, and that has helped minimise these weird uncomfortable side effects. Can you tell me what is going on with my feet. The best way to find out, if this works for you, is to actually try it for several weeks. My suggestion is to go grain, sugar and dairy free.
The effects of gluten, unfortunately may linger around for a long time, even if improvement is experienced early.

They started me on losartan 50 mg and amlodipine 5mg. And for some reason it seams like it is not going down, so I went to the ER and they increased my amlodipine to 10mg and adv me to contact my primary dr that following week. Called the dr that next week and he increased my losartan to 100 mg and amlodipine to 10 mg, 1 each per day. However it seems like my bp is still hanging out around the upper 180's.

If your doctor still thinks everything is okay, then try support socks/stockings. I've been on BP meds, including olmesartan/hydrochlorothiazide, and I still need to wear support socks. I have a pair for light support and a pair for moderate support for days when I'll be on my feet a lot. This also helps my ankle pain.
