Avatar m tn Hello, Swelling (a.k.a. edema) is caused by a buildup of fluids. When this happens in the legs, ankles, and/or feet, it's called peripheral edema. As it has occurred suddenly after lawn mowing in your case, it can be due to some insect sting or bite. Are you overweight? Are you allergic to grass or hay? In these cases also there can be peripheral edema. Did you injure your leg or feet recently? It can be due to infection. But is is usually associated with fever and pain.
Avatar m tn How often does a CHF patient suffers from ascites first than any type of peripheral edema? Is it a common finding or should peripheral edema ensue first? On upright percussion abdomen of patient pesents right sided tympany and left sided dullness.
Avatar f tn Edema is a common side effect of the Norvasc and a low dose thiazide diuretic will take care of the swelling and also help the BP.
Avatar m tn Edema most commonly occurs in the feet and legs, where it is referred to as peripheral edema...an indentation that persists for some time after the release of the pressure, the edema is referred to as pitting edema... You did not list symptoms associated with congested heart failure and if your doctor has ruled out CHF then there may be an underlying cause with the following: Liver failure should be ruled out. 3.
Avatar m tn This loss of vision in the peripheral visual field can be due to optic nerve damage caused by glaucoma, high internal eye pressure, retinal detachment, occlusion of blood supply as in eye stroke, optic neuritis, and optic nerve edema. Tunnel vision is also possible after a history of head injury, concussion, brain damage and stroke, though all these causes may not be applicable in your son's case. Do discuss this with your son's doctor. Take care!
Avatar m tn My father in law was not well controlled with his type 2 diabetes. He ended up hospitalized with edema and actually began hallucinating. He was in the hospital a week and we were told that he either started dialysis three tines a week or he'd pass away. He started the dialysis. It was difficult but he got on a schedule and maintained it. He lived like that for many years after. I also am not understanding the info on her urea test. (that's the BUN test, correct).
Avatar m tn There could be blocked arteries in your legs, called peripheral artery disease that may be causing your leg pain. “If you can walk through the pain and it gets better as you go, it’s rheumatoid arthritis,” says Michael R. Jaff, an osteopathic physician and medical director of the vascular diagnostic laboratory at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. “With PAD, the more you walk, the worse the pain gets,” he says.
Avatar n tn Coumadin is an anti-platelet medication that helps prevent blood clots. Blood clots in the peripheral extremities would cause edema, and coumadin should prevent any blood clos or at least reduce the formation. The swelling of the feet, etc. indicates there is some blockage of the vessls in question and fluids are leaking into the tissues (edema). Hope this helps, and thanks for your question. If you have any further quesions or comments you are welcome to respond.
Avatar f tn Heart failure symptoms would be shortness of breath, fatique, fast heart rate, respiratory edema and sometimes peripheral edema as well, etc.
Avatar f tn My husband had ankle surgery on Dec. 4th. He had two procedures done including graphing/sealing a hole in his ankle bone and ligament tightening. Sorry, I cannot remember the medical terminology for the first procedure. He is non-weight bearing on crutches until at least Feb. 1, at his next appt. and doctor says it will probably be a cane after that? Not sure how he can go straight to a cane, where he will have to walk on his foot, when he has not been allowed to put any weight on it yet.
9945594 tn?1406828866 People who have ascites and peripheral edema caused by our cirrhosis are given diuretics which helps to manage the fluid retention. When my ankles would start to disappear I knew I would soon see my ascites start getting worse and large also.
Avatar f tn I have been a diabetic for 29 years and do have peripheral neuropathy in both legs from the knees down, but that has not gotten any worse before this all started. Have been put on a dieretic, but it is not helping and am afraid of continueing to take it beacuse it may cause problems with my kidneys. Not sure what else it can be.
Avatar n tn An individual can be in heart failure mode (characterized by pulmonary edema as well as peripheral edema) or the heart can be effectively meeting the demand of the system for more oxygenated blood and current treatment is effective.. The edema should be immediately treated as the heart is working hard (can/will enlarge left ventricle causing an additional problem) and can cause irreversilable damage.
Avatar n tn Sometimes due to a heart disorder the blood backs up in the vessels and causes edema (fluids leaking into the vessels) and cause swelling of the peripheral extremities, but almost always that involves both legs. At the top of a diagnosis would be blood clots: a clot in vessel to the left ankle for the swelling of the left ankle. A blood clot to the eye retina can cause a blurring of vision. You should be seeing a doctor and the very least you should take an aspirin.
Avatar f tn s case due to tumor and as well as surgery there can be chances of cerebral edema. With the use of medicines like mannitol cerebral edema usually comes down with a week's time. How long has it been since your child underwent surgery and is he on any medication? Inspite of using medication if the vision does not improve then get a CTscan brain done and visit a neurologist. All the best.
Avatar n tn If there is heart failure, there can be pulmonary edema and peripheral edema as well.
Avatar m tn Then, 4 months later I developed pitting edema of the lower 1/2 of the lower legs and ankles and feet bilaterally. This seemed to make the Peripheral Neuropathy a lot worse. I finally got rid of the edema and erythema a few months later (thanks to Curcumin) and the Peripheral Neuropathy improved. However, it is still worse than it was prior to Tx. Now I have burning of the toes and feet bilaterally and a feeling like I have cotton or sox bunched up around my toes.
Avatar n tn Smothering senstion and a dry cough are symptoms I experienced with congested heart failure. The pulmonary edema was mild, and I didn't experience any pain though, but that is not inconsistent with a heart issue. Ischemic (lack of blood flow) heart failure can cause fluids to back up into the lungs and the lower peripheral area.
Avatar n tn Physical Signs of Heart Disease Swelling of Your Feet and Lower Legs Retention of fluid in the feet and legs is known as peripheral edema. Edema may appear as "sock marks" at the end of the day. Mild peripheral edema is common.
