Avatar m tn You could have lost your eye from an infected corneal ulcer. Vigamox is the strongest antibiotic out there. Corneal ulcers need not be painful. Follow up with the opthalmologist of your choice and stay away from optometrists.
1415174 tn?1453243103 Hi, my corneal specialist (opthamologist) said I have a marginal corneal ulcer bacterial in nature and was thought be caused by rosacea. He gave me Vigamox drops every two hours and Bacitracin ointment for night time. I am having a lot of side effects from the Vigamox (irritation, watery eye, itcy, pain etc. and very red eye). But that is not the biggest problem. I tried the Bacitracin for two nights. Last night I up and saw that my eye was very swollen.
Avatar f tn I made an appointment with an ophthalmologist for a second opinion. He said I had a corneal abrasion (what was once the ulcer?). He prescribed me Vigamox 4 times a day. That evening the pain worsened - eye socket/headache type pain around my eye, excessive tearing, redness, swelling. (Friday) When I woke up the next morning, I had cloudy vision and couldn't see out of my left eye.
Avatar m tn My regular eye Doctor refered me to the corneal specialist who did lasik on me 12 year ago. He said I had a coreal ulcer in that eye. He gave me Vigamox to use every hour until the next day when I saw the corneal dr. Overnight it totally went away, and the specialist felt it was healed. 1 week later the same thing happened in my left eye.
Avatar f tn after we submit his eyes for corneal scrapping, the doctor says it is a fungal infection of the cornea. the doctor gave Vigamox(from every 3 hours, now 3 times a day), amphothericin(from every hour to every 2 hours), nizoral(every hour 24 hours a day). That's really hard taking such eyedrops, As of now, he doing his check up (from every other day, now its everday already). I want to know how long will i take to cure that infection.
Avatar m tn On the night of 12/9 the lesion progressed so rapidly that she suggested us to go to a local hospital to see a corneal specialist, and there a corneal smear and debridement were performed. The next day the hospital called to tell us that amoeba cysts were observed in the smear sample. On 12/13 we went to a hospital to have a confocal microscope scan and they found small round things that look like amoeba cysts.
Avatar f tn It sounds like you have an infectious corneal ulcer. This is a serious medical condition best treated by an ophthalmologist MD at first diagnosis. This type of history with a contact lens is typical. Proper treatment is frequent antibiotic drop as you are now taking. It may take longer now because you were not on them frequently from the start.
Avatar f tn I have been given different reasons for the corneal ulcer. The retina specialist seems to think I may have an auto-immune problem of some sort. My primary ophthamologist says it is due to a sub-tenons kenalog injection given by the retina specialist approx. 2 weeks before the ulcer developed. The ophthamologist I see when primary is out (same group) seems to agree with retina specialist. My primary care physician has ordered lots of lab work to see if there is another problem.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed after being sent to a specialist with a corneal ulcer that is infected with a fungus, the doctor said it was the worst fungus you could want. He has me on Vigamox 4X daily, Baqacil 12Xdaily, and Natacyn 12Xdaily, this was knocked down, I was on the baqacil and natacyn every hour 24 hours a day. My doctor has said the ulcer has begun to heal, but it is located in the center/upper region of my eye.
Avatar m tn Hey, 3 weeks ago about i got a really bad corneal ulcer to do contacts. The contacts where monthly and i had only had them for about 2 weeks. had them in from 2pm till 1am and did not fall asleep with them. anyways, i went to see my optometrist today and he told me that the scar is very thick, but with time will thin out. He told me it could take a year... i'm just wondering if theres any possibility it could take less? and also if the scar could potentially heal completely?
Avatar m tn 2%w/v sterile eye drop ) and suggest me to consult another doctor for dystrophy. I went to another doctor and he said there is 99% chance of corneal dystrophy and 1% chance of viral of due to heredity by which these white spots are there is your cornea & if it not affect you eyesight it is ok ..we don't have any problem with it. I told him that I am suffering from Photo phobia and it is very hard for me to roam around in a Sunny day ..
Avatar n tn Dr. Kutryb, Thank you for your response. Today my eye was bothering me much much much MUCH more so I went back for another appointment. I saw a different Doctor this time. He said my eye had gotten worse, that I now have an ulcer. He Rx'd me ciloxan ointment for right before bed time, and Polymyxin B with instructions to alternate that antibiotic drop with the Vigamox every half hour and cut off the Acular unless I am in increasing pain and also to use lubercating drops as needed.
Avatar m tn 1. Corneal ulcers can be minor and heal in 24 hrs or cause loss of eye. Too much difference to generalize. 2. Only your ophthalmologist can tell you, all I can say is follow the eye MDs direction. 3. see #1 4. On properly selected individuals lasik is a fantastic procedure. For others its not an option. Again only an Eye Md that examines you eye can tell fo sure.
Avatar m tn Could be a corneal abrasion there now and could be at high risk for a corneal ulcer which can be ugly. You really never want to get one. Keep a very high index of suspicion for corneal ulcer and get seen today if eye doesn't get better. Beware of wearing new contact lens right now because it can mask the pain and increase chance of growth of new corneal ulcer.
Avatar f tn I saw in a previous question that Tobramycin might be substituted for Vigamox (which is MUCH cheaper). Can you suggest a cheaper substitute for Nevanac? I had asked the nurse for more samples, but she refused saying they wouldn't have enough for the other patients. Thanks!
Avatar f tn That question is too vague to answer. Sometimes yes but often no. There are quite a few different types of corneal ulcers.
Avatar n tn Hello, Last night I started having discomfort in my eye -- it felt like something was lodged in it. I went to the opthamologist, and was told that I have corneal ulcer, likely due to a contact lens induced infection caused. The doctor prescribed Zymar -- an antibiotic -- and might have to prescribe a fortified compound if the symptoms don't begin to dissipate. I have a major problem in that the effected eye is now photophobic.
Avatar f tn I've had corneal ulcers for many years, always left eye, now in the right too. Mine are caused by herpes. I'm allergic to viroptic drops, valtrex works but has aggravated a string of GI problems. Does anyone know of any other treatments or meds to try? I woke up this morning and know I have the start of another ulcer.
Avatar f tn My right eye is red, I may have accidentally scratched it with my finger 2 days ago when I was rubbing my eye. It was a little red before, then I thought it got better, but today (Sun Apr 11) it's even more red than before and has a mild pain. What should I do? I have Vigamox eye drops left over from a previous prescription for blepharitis in my other eye (seems to be healed now). Should I take them?
Avatar f tn her right is a little bulging and slight corneal ulcer...we went to have eye check up and ask what is the possible problem...we also went to seek help from endocrinologist...but the doctor told us that my mother is NOT HYPERTHYROIDISM...but before she had undergone thyroid surgery because there was a cyst in the right upper thyroid...but yet after the surgery the eye is still bulging... what else can be the possible problem causing the eye to be bulging without hyperthyroidism????
Avatar n tn Long plane and car trips are very stressing for corneal erosions. In the car, run the air conditioner or heater on the feet vents not into the face. Put artificial tears in the eye every couple of hours on a car trip and every hour on a plane trip. You should go a minimum of 4 months without any pain from the erosion (usually during sleep or upon wakening) before trying to stop the ointment.
Avatar n tn I obtained a corneal abrasion a few days after a vitrectomy for a macular hole. No known cause. It was originally 1mm x 3mm and is now 1mm by 2mm-- this is 3 weeks later. Doctor says he does not know why it is healing so slowly. There doesn't appear to be damage to underlying layers, no corneal ulcer. I am only being treated with Systane Ultra preservative free drop and Oxaflaxacin. I am wearing a corneal band aid contact lens.
1356840 tn?1277281969 Hi there. I developed a corneal ulcer due to extended wear contact lenses. After a week, it cleared up but the ophthalmologist says the scar that it left could be permanent. She recommended staying off contact lenses for a couple of weeks; but was unable to say whether or not it would be best never to wear them again. She did suggest daily wear lenses. What should I do? Ideally I'd never wear lenses again but this is just not practical for me. Should I buy daily lenses and wear sparingly?
