Common Questions and Answers about Toprol xl with food

toprol

Avatar n tn I have been on this combination for 6+ years and doing pretty well with them. In May 2008 I was started on Toprol XL 25 mg. It worked for my blood pressure and lowered it but it also made my depression worse and I finally went to my doctor to get off of them. I am now weaning off of the Toprol XL. I am on the second day of 12.5mg and I can't tell you how bad I have felt all day. Extreme anxiety and jittery. I CANNOT wait for this drug to be out of my system.
Avatar f tn Yes you can find online a few web sites , that will tell you this ! look under side effects of toprol xl - you can find it by reading (problems with toprol xl) it should come up ! a long while ago (years) bbc news reported the u.k medical asso , had found beta blockers caused cholesterol to build up in most people who took it. so they limited the use of beta blockers - they also reported that due to adverse side effects , beta blockers would be in limited useage in the u.k.
343006 tn?1314446471 I then e mailed the makers of toprol xl - and they confirmed toprol xl can cause ringing of the ears as a known side effect. I also checked DIovan and its listed as well - Due to this , I guess the next best thing to do is see my Doctor and complain to get off the medications or switch them. thanks too for info on h.b.p and how it can cause ringing in the ears, when its too high .. I recheck and check my b.p everyday 3 to 4 times daily- when medicatated its down to normal levels.
214864 tn?1229715239 FDA Finds Fault with Generic Toprol XL -- Problems Reported Earlier by ConsumerLab.com (Date Posted: 8/28/2008) On August 12, 2008, the U.S. FDA sent a letter to Sandoz Inc. warning of violations in its manufacture of Metoprolol Succinate ER tablets and other drug products. Sandoz's Metoprolol Succinate ER tablets are generic versions of Toprol XL. In March 2008, ConsumerLab.com reported on consumer complaints with Sandoz's Metoprolol Succinate ER. As described in the ConsumerLab.
Avatar f tn I can't answer your question about Sotalol, but I can say I have extensive experience with Toprol XL. Only input, 25 mg is a very light dose in my experience. I'd expect you to have very few side effects (low blood pressure, dizzy) for such a low dose. What are you trying to treat, fast pulse?
Avatar f tn I, too, had probems with the generic Toprol XL. I finally convinced my cardio to give me a new rx and state "dispense as written". I noticed a big difference. I think if you contact your cardio or gp (whoever writes your script for Toprol XL) they would do the same thing. I read LOTS of information that the generic was causing all kinds of problems in people.
Avatar n tn I am now on toprol XL 50mg once a day. My blood pressure is running 120/71 now. when the PVC are happening I am dizzy and cannot think straight. I dont know how I can just live with this when I feel so flush and cannot function. Seems like 1/3 less pulses means 30 % less oxygen carrying RBC are circulating. It seems debilitating to me. Can the toprol XL dose be increased without running my blood pressure down too low. How high can it be raised safely.
Avatar n tn I am wondering if you are uneasy about taking digoxin. If so, I would ask you cardio if you can get by with just the TOPROL XL. Digoxin, xanax, toprol xl, and lisinoprol seems like a lot of stuff to be taking. I am a runner and only take TOPROL XL 12.5mg. This knocks out my extra beats and really slows my heart down. A little seems to go a long way for me.
Avatar n tn New doctor has taken me off 100mg Amiodarone and replaced with 25mg toprol XL. I am experiencing dizziness, extreme sensitivity to heat and sunlight, confussion...I have waited a week thinking the side effects would subside. Internet research has led me to believe that the amiodarone can stay in my system for up to ninety days...or is it the beta blocker I am having a bad reactiont to??? Did the amiodarone damage my eyes? My vision has declined substantially over the past two years.
Avatar m tn This is going to sound weird, but I have been suffering from SEVERE anxiety issues since last summer, severe abdominal pain, shakes, etc. I have had echocardiogram, nuclear stress test, tons of ekg's and ecg's, cat scan of chest and stomach, tons of blood and enzyme tests, everthing other than slight right side heart enlargement, is fine. I was diagnosed with benign PVC's last summer by my cardiologist after wearing a king of hearts monitor.
Avatar f tn I just discovered this after 3 months of total misery, 7 different doctors, multiple tests, 1 hospitalization, 16 pound weight loss, almost lost my job, etc., etc., etc.. I want to know if this will have permanent effects on my body and heart and will I ever be the same again. I still don't feel 100% and have been back on the brand TOPROL XL for 9 days now.
Avatar n tn Does anyone take NSAID's with their Beta Blocker? I take Toprol XL and it said there is a moderate drug interaction.
Avatar m tn I have taken 50 mgs of toprol XL for 12-13 years. It is a very safe and a good medication in my opinion. The XL means that it has an Extended Life .. in other words one pill is supposed work for at least 24 hours i think... but anyway... I dont know why the doc would say just use it when your rate is fast.. if you took one a day ....your heart rate should stay pretty regular Id think.. but Im not a doctor... I dont really know about taking it occassionally... doesnt make alot of sense to me..
Avatar m tn When I made that same switch a few years ago, I went from 100mg Toprol XL once a day to 100mg metoprolol succinate once a day. Neither my doctor nor my pharmacist ever suggested that I would need to split the dose. My understanding is that metoprolol succinate is an extended release formuation that substitutes directly for Toprol XL. But ask your doc or a pharmacist to make sure. I'm off of the drug entirely now, so I don't worry with it anymore.
406399 tn?1201884300 I belive your totaly right! about Toprol xl being the one beta blocker with more side effects , than others have. I will ask about Coreg (carvedilol ) as I never have tryed that one before. might work ? worth a shot ! im very aware of h.b.p and not being on something to keep it down. its just very hard to find a hmo or even ppo doctor that will work with me. and switch meds.
Avatar n tn Been on toprol xl for a long tine and have been experiencing anxiety and depression! Can this med cause this after many year So?
Avatar n tn I was released from the hospital yesterday after a two day bout of atrial tachycardia and off and on atrial fib. My Toprol XL was increased from 100mg to 150 mg. 100 mg in the morning and 50 mg at night. I have low blood pressure (90/60) and I'm afraid that taking the extra 50 mg at night will drop my blood pressure too low and I could die in my sleep from my bp bottoming out? Is this an unreasonable fear?
Avatar m tn I spent 6 years taking Toprol XL, 100mg once a day. Started working with a trainer about 4 months ago and after two months they cut me down to 75mg when my pulse started dropping into the low 50's from the 70's. I was told to stop taking it immediately by two different cardiologists after suffering a fainting issue and visiting the er. It has been about 6 days since I stopped taking Toprol XL. Pulse is still in the 40's, bp fluctuates from 90/40 to about 105/55.
Avatar f tn Dear Di: I have taken toprol xl for about 12 years and have not had a problem with it.. The XL stands for extended life.. it is not all released at once in your system..So I would say the reason you cant take it just when you have a problem is that your body does not get the full effect immediately.. You have to take it and build it up as I understand it.. dunno not a dr...but thats the way Ive always understood it.. basically its a very safe medication to take... hope this helps.. .
Avatar f tn My blood pressure runs around 91/60 and my pulse rate at 50 is this to low is this why I might feel sluggish and tired with no energy. I take medicine for tachycardia 50 mg p/day of toprol xl.
Avatar n tn I've had a few drugs that didn't agree with me. Toprol XL was one of them. When I mentioned to my cardiologist I was having some problems concentrating he wrote me a script switching me from Toprol to atenolol. I'm not back to where I would like to be but it helped. I'm happy with the atenolol. My blood tests, BP, etc. are good and it is quite a bit cheaper too. (Although with any drug, if it is what you need then price doesn't / shouldn't matter that much).
Avatar m tn A prescription for Toprol XL 12.5 mg issued. Should I take it considering it is a beta-blocker and reduces the heart rate?
Avatar f tn I take 100mg of Toprol XL at 630 pm every day & have for about a year. However, this time isn't working out for me anymore & I'd like to change it to early morning around 11am or maybe 12pm. How would I go about doing this? I know I can't just out of the blue take it at 11am one day. Any help is appreciated!
280234 tn?1532986249 I was later switched to Toprol XL 25 mg to control the tachycardia better. I was on that several years. I then found out I was pregnant with my second child, and switched to Labetalol. After having the 2nd baby (which was a normal delivery) I was put on Toprol XL again by my PCP. I was eventually referred to a cardiologist by my PCP to evaluate the high BP & tachycardia as a precaution. I now have a cardiologist.
Avatar m tn Oilurt, do you have a pacemaker with defibrillator, or just the defibrillator? The reason I'm curious is that people that have demand pacemakers will have their heart rate maintained at a certain point if their heart rate drops too low. Taking too much of a Beta Blocker can drop your heart rate, with a demand pacemaker, it would be assured to be maintained at a certain rate.
Avatar n tn My doctor has prescribed me 25 mg Toprol XL for the PVC's (flutters) I get after I eat. After reading the possible side effects, I am a little leary. Does anyone have any advice? Does anyone know what the common side effects are?
Avatar n tn I have frequent PVC's (often with bigeminy) and I also have lots of reflux problems. I have been getting a lot more PVC's the past couple of weeks. I switched from Toprol XL to generic Metoprolol, and I I don't know if that has had any affect. I have also had increased reflux issues during this time. I am getting more PVC's and bigeminy than normal and am noticing it most when I lean forward, especailly while eating. Does this sound like the PVC's are coming from reflux?
