I ended up getting off of all the stuff the doctors were giving me because it was ridiculous. Now I only take sertraline. The second time I took topamax I did not lose any weight at all. It is by no means a weight loss medication either ... that is simply one of several side effects... Which many other medications have the same side effect.

I am also hypothyroid and take 200mcg of synthroid, will there be issues taking these two meds together? I read that one of the side effects of topamax is weight loss. This I wouldnt mind as Ive put on weight due to my hypothyroid. But, the biggest thing would not have these headaches. I have almost come to the point where I just have to accept them as part of my life. I really would like this med to work. Info/suggestions/ideas from anyone would be greatly appreciated..
and was able to loose some weight (though I was not overweight at that time). I began eating more to try to gain weight. The topamax did level off and the weight began to pile on (other anti-seizure meds were added that could cause weight gain). I have been off Topamax for approx. 8 months and was wondering if I began to take Topamax again would it help with weight loss or once it has leveled off it will no longer aid in weight loss?

I know that weight loss is associated with both of those, especially the Topamax. I was ok with that, I've been wanting to lose about 30 lbs. anyway. But I'm on low doses of both, so I didn't expect to see much weight loss, if any, and especially not so quickly. My appointment at the psychiatrist was on October 7 and when they had me get on the scale there, it read 131 lbs.

old female also with a LONG migraine history and I have fibromyalgia. I had to go off the Topamax (the weight loss was great, but the side effects turned me into a depressed zombie). Now I'm on Lyrica, it's not yet approved for migraines but the testing is very promising, and I have had very few headaches in the last 2 months since I switched and those have been mild. I hope and think that probably your symptoms are related to the Topamax also.
I still get the occassional headache/migraine due to the extreme weather/pressure change but I can manage. Weight loss is a big thing I am battling with though. I HAVE lost 30+ pounds because of Topamax. Very irritating when you are trying to fit into a wedding dress. I probably need to increase my dosage for the migraines but I am afraid because I do not need to lose anymore weight. I am still averaging at least 1-2lbs a week. Loss of appetite is one of the many side effects of Topamax. So is weight loss. You may try giving the child some digestive enzymes and multivitamin preparations that help in improving the appetite. There are many success stories of people losing weight on topamax. If you read the side effects, weight loss is one of them. It helps suppress the desire to eat even smoking which I have quit too. I have had all blood tests ran on me. I've been going to my doctor for 10 years. I like how you just jump to conclusions without doing any research. For anyone else who has any experience using this please write.
I take it for nerve pain and complex migraines. I did experience weight loss but not loss so far, but I do take daily vitamin and extra supplements plus making sure I drink Ensure and a V-8 everyday to keep myself health. I didn’t need to lose any weight. I also cut all alcohol out with the exception of the occasional glass of wine with we are out to dinner with friends…. (Mostly so I don’t look like a party pooper) and anything carbonated taste awful.

two weeks after i had started the topamax i went on cymbalta 30 mg the first week then 60 mg the second, but i had to stop it cause quite honestly all that medication does is mess your body up. my whole digestive track and stomach has been messed up since, i started with constipation, now i have diarrhea often, stomach cramps, and loss of appetite from the topamax. i started smoking weed this year, and its the only thing that helps me eat and maintain my weight.
