Avatar f tn I went thru this painful bleeding rash on my arms and legs for years..ugh its just awful. Went to every skin Dr and they were stumped..well I just had thyroid surgery to remmove toxic nodule and half my thyroid...guess what? The rash is finally clearing up all by it self now! Yaaaaay! Tell you Dr about it and insist you get your thyroid treated..myself I recomend the surgery over the radiation. A litter more painful but much safer esp for those of us with thyroid rash!
Avatar n tn However, after my thyroid levels normalized my skin began to welt tremendously even if I just barely scratched myself. I went to a dermatologist and he blamed it on my thyroid. My poor thyroid gets blamed for everything. I was wondering if this is something other thyroid patients experience or is it just another blame on the thyroid, in my case.
Avatar f tn Alternatively the skin issues could be separate from the thyroid. Please read up on PCOS and see if it fits. Ask your doctor about it. Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is more commonly seen in people with thyroid issues.
4274823 tn?1388529098 Can anyone suggest a gentle, natural skin moisturizer? I have dry, sensitive skin in part due to hypothyroidism and in part due to the early onset of winter in Canada.
Avatar n tn I will tell you that I purchased 2 books that were so helpful, the Thyroid Solution and Thyroid and Depression, both books are fantastic. I also got Thyroid for Dummies, another good resource book. I would definitely call your pcp as you may be allergic to a chemical within the drug. Good luck.
290018 tn?1240365868 Chows are known in the derm world for getting thyroid issues and adrenal issues which can cause this and can be treated with meds. Have your vet run some blood work and possibly an acth stim test and/or sex steroid test.
Avatar f tn All of a sudden and very quickly I have now developed crepey skin on my arms and cleavage. Has anyone else noticed this from taking an estrogen-blocking agent? I am so tempted to stop taking this pill, but I have 2-1/2 more years to go and don't want cancer to recur. I am 69 but I will look like 95 by the time this is over.
107693 tn?1252864443 now they are back and they very itchy and they also hurt when you touch that area. Lamisil had bad side effects, bad for the liver... Is there an alternative way to cure this...
Avatar f tn Then when increasing my dosage in the second trimedter my acnr got way worse. Skin so oily and cystic big ones! Then it calmed down when i decreased back down to 30mg... how do you get rid of acne if it is being caused by the meds?? I am swtiching to wp thyroid to see if this helps at all.
Avatar f tn i thought a dermatologist would be able to point to a thing or two pretty quickly with symptoms like that! anyway - yes - hashimotos and thyroid things - dry skin is a hypothyroid symptom. just go to the THYROID FORUM and ask there - someone there hopefully can explain better than i can, about the complete batch of thyroid tests that you need to find a dr to run. you can have test results that show normal, but possibly because it's an incomplete set of tests.
623944 tn?1244035490 m still in the discovery phase with my thyroid and know next to nothing about medications and treatments. I have nodules/cysts with just a little enlargement. My endo said my biopsy was consistent with Hashi's, but I don't know my antibody levels - they are snail mailing my bloodwork. I do however have morphea scleroderma (autoimmune) with an elevated ANA. I too want to research this a little more indepthly.
Avatar m tn I was taking 50mcg of Synthroid for a couple of months and saw improvement in skin tone (lack of dry flaky skin) and concentration. Over the past few weeks I have experimented with Armour, trying different dosages. I can not seem to tolerate more than a quarter grain without experiencing some angina and the dry flaky skin has returned. Have thought about adding back in the 50 mcg of Synthroid with the quarter grain of Armour. Has anyone tried this?
Avatar n tn I have been on thyroid meds for 10 years I heard that taking iodine would fix my thyroid so I got some thyodine and took it a few days and after a few days my skin was on fire and itchy and really bad heart palpitations I did stop the iodine about a month ago but when i take my meds my skin starts itching again and my face feels burnt is this iodine still in my system??
8120829 tn?1408722859 I even had a buzzing in one leg for a while then the intense heat from inside my leg. When I search for skin problems and thyroid meds I find many people with dry skin, burning, etc. from levo or tirosint. (That's how I found my way here.) I'm on 75mcg of Tirosint now. The endo is happy with the numbers and is not having me back until January. He said he has never seen anyone with my reaction and believes it is a reaction to the supplements.
4939681 tn?1361299299 about a week of hyper followed by what feels like a hypo crash and my skin is suffering. Bc my free thyroid levels are good I am not taking any thyroid medication ( considering the swings, it's probably not a good idea anyway). Is there anything that any of you can recommend to heal my dry skin? Maybe even a supplement? I've tried several different lotions and none of them help.
Avatar f tn m still undermedicated and I hope if I can get more medication this will go away. I try and pinch the fat on my stomach and I have to grab a whole lot of blob with it, not skin alone, and my face can't just pinch skin, but I can on around the jaw bone, gads I hope this goes away. So you say this is a hypo thing? having to do with the thyroid? thanks so much for this info.
Avatar n tn all the time, seldom perspire unless humidity is high. I am 55yrs old, taken Armour thyroid for 2yrs for low thyroid, was dx with skin Sarcodosis 6yrs ago, complete hystorectomy 20yrs ago. I would appreciate your opinion on my dx and symptoms.
773755 tn?1328119777 I have Graves' and when I was hyper the skin on my face was amazingly clear and people would always comment on my complexion. When I went hypo, my skin was dull and I had no color in my face.
Avatar m tn My skin is also smoother than normal or maybe just thinner, I have lost fat in my skin most noticeably my face and neck and it almost feels like rubber, skin creams do not absorb and my facial skin is very loose especially at my jawline. My eyebrows are sagging cheeks have sunken and have seem to have lost muscle mass in my neck arms and legs. I have lost some weight but am now gaining because i am eatling alot but the weight is not returning in my face or limbs.
648987 tn?1231201877 You don't say if you already have a thryoid disorder or if you are in the menopause. I have both and one of the strongest things that's happened if the state of my skin including my face, it's so dry and crackly. I look so haggard. So it could be either of these conditions if you have them, or think you might have them.
Avatar n tn I have never heard darkening skin as a symptom of thyroid disease. You should see a Dr. Just a guess, but it could be due to an Adrenal issue.
590177 tn?1288425854 I also had my thyroid removed. And since I started taking T3 (with my T4), my skin started to get darker. I think it's got to do with my adrenals that could be getting worse. Anyway, will make an appointment with my Doctor to get my results. Maybe ask him about pituitary gland tests. I did mention to him the darker skin but didn't do anything. I will mention it again. rumpled - that's terrible that you had to have your adrenals removed.
Avatar n tn hi, i am 35 years old and i have had hypothyroidism since i've been 12. i am on synthroid 88mcg. I also have acne and have had it since i was a teen. i can't seem to get it to clear up and i have dry patches of skin on my arms. i have had my doc check my thyroid again and again, because i just don't feel right and my skin in a wreck. he keeps telling me my thyroid is in normal limits with the meds i'm on.
Avatar m tn My skin has become extremely dry and the skin at times appears to peel on my forehead and Ears. Alcohol, spicy foods & temperature will induce or aggravate the situation. I have also noticed my own personal temperament e.g. anger, frustration and stress will set it off. My blood pressure is 120-72 and sometimes the lower number will be around 80-84 Any ideas as to what it might be and what type of specialist I should go see?
Avatar f tn Ask for some adjustment in the machine to overcome this, if you use one. Endocrine disorders, anti thyroid medicines and chemotherapy drugs also cause a salty taste in mouth. Since I cannot examine you and know other related conditions you may be having, nor is a detailed history possible on net, I have listed the various possibilities that should be looked into. Please consult your PCP to run tests and examination to clinch a diagnosis. Take care!
Avatar n tn This could just be hyperpigmentation that often comes with age and sun exposure. Could be adrenal or thyroid issues. Does the dog have any other symptoms at all regarding the skin, hair loss, etc? I assume you asked the vet about this? If you are that concerned, you should go back and speak to your Vet about this.
