Synthroid metabolism

Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid metabolism

synthroid

Avatar n tn hi last month i was diagnosed with Hashimotos thyroiditis and i am on synthroid 100mcg .can i drinkwarm lemon water with honey before my breakfast.
Avatar n tn If you have no thyroid can you still increase your metabolism by eating more often and excercising. etc.. I've tried looking online but can find no answers. I would think that my metabolism would pretty much be a constant because the Synthroid keeps it regulated. I gained so much weight right away after the thyroid removal that it's frustrating.
Avatar n tn s everything made sense (freezing cold hands and feet, slow metabolism....). After being put on Synthroid my period started, but my blood test showed that I was taking too high of a dosage so my doctor lowered the medication. Then my period stopped again. Ever since then I have only had my period once by myself, but I was put on birth control for a few months to help regulate my period (which it did). But when I stopped taking it my periods did not come.
Avatar f tn This might be an odd question but today is my 3rd day on Synthroid (I have Hashimoto's) and I know I have to wait at least 4 weeks to feel the effects. I'm really impatient and I noticed something different today at the gym. usually i do HIIT Cardio on the elliptical machine when I'm not training, and I NEVER sweat and my heart rate never goes above 170 until the END of my cycle.
Avatar n tn I have been recently diagnosed with thyroiditis. I'm currently in a hypo stage and have been put on synthroid - 50mg a day. I've been on the meds for 5 weeks and am still gaining weight. I began on June 11 and since then have gained aprx 1.2 lbs a week. I feel bloated and swollen, but when I went to the endo. she said that it would take a while for my metabolism to catch up with my blood work - which now has a TSH of 1.2.
Avatar f tn Hi....I have to say that since i have been on synthroid ( for about 1 year now)...i have gained about 25 lbs....i cannot seem to lose it at all....my dr had said this type of thyroid problem should cause weight loss, not gain....not seeing this at all...actually, total opposite....last night i joined the gym which i will start tonight....wondering if anyone found that taking this medication along with workouts at the gym have helped with the weight gain?
Avatar m tn Recently been diagnosed with a 5mm nodule on my gland and hypothyroid.Having issues with unexplained weight gain etc.Being more of a supplement person instead of meds I am concerned about starting Synthroid. I've done alot ofresearch and it's gets been more confusing as to whether armour is better or not.Seems like you need to be a guinea pig to see which works better-Can anyone advise me on their experiences on both/either.
327369 tn?1326119908 I believe that the synthroid should help your metabolism work better, not make it worse. You should be losing weight with synthroid and gaining when you are "hypo", i.e., low.
Avatar n tn 1988 my thyroid gland was removed and have been stable on Synthroid since until last year. My doctor feels I should remain on Synthroid even though I am still hypothyroid. See results below and please comment. Thank you. 8/23/06, TSH = 0.8, dose of Synthroid = 100uIU/ml 2/21/07, TSH = 2.1, dose of Synthroid = 100uIU/ml 4/2/08, TSH = 16.6, dose of Synthroid =100 uIU/ml. Dose of Synthroid changed to 125uIU/ml on 4-7-08 6/13/08, TSH (GEN3) = 0.
Avatar f tn Thyroid problems most definitely cause symptoms of anxiety! Especially since you've had some dosage adjustments with the Synthroid and haven't been well regulated. Now, that isn't uncommon either, many people require frequent lab tests and adjustments to find the right dose that will work for you. Metabolism changes can cause the Synthroid to not be as effective....and a person's metabolism can change from time to time for all kinds of reasons. Keep working with your doctor..
535882 tn?1396576685 asp It says the optimal level is 98.6. The lower your average temp. is, the lower your metabolism, most frequently due to low thyroid. Of course this needs to be confirmed with blood testing for free T3 and free T4 and TSH. Personally I have found body temp. to be quite useful.
Avatar n tn I gained 30 pounds and I started to develop other symptoms as well. I have been taking Synthroid since. in my last blood test my TSH level was very low but I still have all the symptoms of hypothyroidism. Not as severe as they were 2 years ago but for example it's impossible for me to lose weight. Even after 30-45 minutes exercise per day and watching carefully what I'm eating. Has anyone been in this situation?
927140 tn?1244210051 m already on Synthroid and Celexa. In two weeks he is wanting me to start on Phentermine. I have had lots of weight gain. I'm a little concerned about these BIG changes, but I do want help. Has anybody heard of this combination in meds?
Avatar m tn I live in USA.Doctor prescribed me Synthroid 25 mg. I guess its the brand name, can i go for generic brand as its cheaper than brand name. My lab T3 normal level is 80.0 - 204.0 and mine is 111.2 T2 is 3.5 - 5.2 and mine is 4.6 TSH is 0.350 - 4.500 and mine is 4.
Avatar n tn So I finally got diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and just picked up my prescription of Synthroid, the problem is, it's 100mcg and the doctor said she would start me out on a low dose. I was under the impression it would be in the 25-50 mcg range. My question is, is it too high of a dose? If it is how do I know? Do I break it in half? Agh, the confusion!
Avatar f tn I had my thyroid removed because of cancer and am on synthroid. I have also gone through menopause. I watch what I eat and execise most days but it is very difficult to lose weight. All I ever read is the key to weight loss is your metabolism. How do I increase it without a thyroid? It is very frustrating!
Avatar n tn t help but think that my Synthroid is playing in. I have a strong sense that my metabolism is too fast, and here I am taking a pill every day to increase it. I desperately want to try cutting back my Synthroid and see I get some relief. At this point in the pregnancy (almost 31 weeks), do I need to be as worried about a low TSH for baby's development? What if I am just more comfortable around 3 or 4 rather than 2? Any thoughts? Thanks very much.
Avatar f tn Please post your actual thyroid hormone and TSH levels. Be sure to include reference ranges, since ranges vary lab to lab and have to come from your own lab report. It is not normal to have high TSH, nor is it normal to have low thyroid hormone levels. The high TSH indicates that they pituitary gland is not satisfied with amount of hormones your thyroid is producing.
Avatar f tn I am recently diagnoised with hypo-been taking 100 synthroid for almost a month. I work out 5 days a week I was wondering if anyone has taken cytomel along with synthroid? If so has it helped in weight loss? I work out so very hard and go to the gym twice a day, The doctor says until my metabolism and thyroid get on track my weight won't change. I have been doing some research on cytomel and am thinking of asking my Dr. if I can try it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Avatar n tn It is my understanding that the thyroid has a part in metabolism, and when we are hypo, our metabolism slows down, As you know from experience, it is hard to get it jumpstarted again. Even with dieting and exercise. I read that cayenne pepper upped the metabolism, I have been adding it to my food. Who knows, we get so desperate and want to lose that weight so bad, they could tell us to eat the stuff off our bumpers and we just might do it....ha ha ha Gross, I know, but you get my point!!
Avatar f tn TPO antibodies are not affected by the Synthroid. The Synthroid is to offset the loss of natural thyroid hormone as your thyroid glands are being destroyed by the antibodies. Some Hashi's patients have reported that selenium seems to reduce the level of antibodies, but that is only anecdotal info. Also, if you consider selenium you need to do so cautiously, since it can be toxic when excessive. Frequently hypo patients find that TSH will be suppressed when taking thyroid meds.
4401150 tn?1354025255 In some studies, it was shown that "significant (what ever that means) weight loss can cause what some would call thyroid resistance. In essence the body senses the weight loss and basically goes into survival mode. One mechanism the body can resort to is slowing the metabolism and thus making it harder for thyroid to do it's job. Thereby slowing the metabolism in hopes to try to survive the "famine".
Avatar n tn Since I have been on Synthroid, which has been elevated and lowered at intervals, I am at .50 now, I have gradually developed Rheumatoid arthritis. Could it be related?
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed a year ago with hyperthyroidism. After an ablation my levels showed hypothyroidism. I've been on Synthroid, but I don't like the weight gain, nausea, bowel problems it causes and want to stop it. Is this dangerous? What happens if I am on no medication at all for this condition?
Avatar m tn I was miss prescribed by my Dr. a much higher synthroid dose. I was taking half of 25mcg (that's the lowest level) and my Dr changed my prescription to 125mcg (so I was taking then 67.5mcg). It got to the point I thought I was having a heart attack, would wake up every other minute at night. In a period of about 4 months my triglycerides jumped drastically, and I gained 40lbs.It seems my metabolism went cocoa puffs.
870456 tn?1272558604 The portion of T3 that is not bound to protein molecules is called free T3. This FT3 regulates metabolism (temperature) and many other body functions.
Avatar n tn m a bit older so they say the metabolism slowing down is from age for me along with my Synthroid. Interesting to see what others think as they answer your post. WELCOME!
