Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid and potassium

synthroid

Avatar n tn She was shocked when I advised her NOT TO TAKE ANOTHER ONE UNTIL SHE CONTACTED HER DOCTOR and had her potassium level checked! She has done this! She will be rechecked and will talk to him about taking Potassium Iodide! Hopefully she will not try to Self-Medicate again!
Avatar n tn I have had progressive symptoms since removing my thyroid. I started on 150 mcg of synthroid 4x a day and 175 mcg synthroid 3x a day to get TSH in suppression. First I was dizzy, then aggitated, then couldn't sleep, then aversions to exercise (muscles slightly tremor - notice at night), then migraines and positional vertigo during heat (summer) and exercise, then heart tightness/intense beating, blood pressure all over the place...lowering synthroid to 150 mcg every day....
Avatar n tn I just forgot to add, that your potassium is just a tad low, you can bring this up a little with a bananna each day, or there are other natural forms of potassium, Avocado, you can Google Natural Potassium and it will show a list of foods that contain potassium. I would not take any potassium supplements without your MD's approval. Good Luck and let us know how you are doing.
Avatar n tn Hello - can thyroid or other hormonal problems causing femur tremors? Can Synthroid or other meds for hypo cause tremors? Thank you.

Avatar n tn Is there any relationship between thyroid disease treated with synthroid and onset of svt?
168348 tn?1379357075 Been on Synthroid for 6 yrs and am almost certain it's the med causing night leg cramps. I trialed off it for 3 days and the cramps went away. My doctor is considering a switch to something else, but this is so odd ---- I've been on Synthroid since '07 and have never had any issues. (sigh).
296738 tn?1235996403 s correct, calcium levels are important too..... ask for your vit D too. Low calcium and low potassium can be causes of Twitches and tremors.
Avatar n tn Went to another physician and he tested my levels and placed me on a lower dosage of Synthroid of 112 and ordered a ultrasound. Dr. Sent the ultrasound to an Endo. appointment is scheduled in February 11, 2008. Have pains behind my left breast bone from time to time dizziness, nausea, forgetfulness and still gaining weight. Sometimes I feel pain in my neck where the thyroid is located.
1569985 tn?1328247482 I recently discovered cocoanut water and find it very refreshing and low in calories and carbs. Problem is, it has around 600 mgs. of potassium and I'm wondering if that can be a good thing for those of use who have heart rhythm issues. Any insight will be appreciated. Thanks.
Avatar m tn Tests would be cortisol both free and serum, ACTH, renin, aldosterone and renin, antibodies and sodium and potassium. AI is a salt wasting disease so you would have low sodium and potassium would be effected as well. The diagnosis would be confirmed by a stimulation test.
Avatar n tn My wife has had chronic diarrhea since July and has had a minor heart attack due to low potassium. She has also developed a pain in the gall bladder area. Tests so far (upper and lower GI scope, CT scan of abdomen, ultra sound of gall bladder and numerous blood tests) have not been conclusive of anything other than microscopic colitis. She is on a variety of meds but nothing is stopping the diarrhea and she ends up in the hospital every few weeks to receive potassium through IV.
Avatar n tn I had my thyroid removed on october 24th and have been on synthroid 75 mcg since. i have been having cramps in my calves like charlie horse pain for the past week . Does this mean that i may need a higher dose of synthroid. I just went and had my first lab work done since my surgery this past week. I have noticed that I have gained some weight since the surgery.
Avatar m tn Hey Gimel, since I switched to Synthroid from generic I feel much much better and if it makes any sense at peace. This is all fairly new for me so am learning to listen what my body is saying. I am now even able to work out almost full strength. Essentially yeah I had alot of symptoms that were unexplainable, mostly muscle weakness, fatigue etc. The way I describe it is it's like driving at night with poor vision. The acid reflux is really wierd and gotten much worse.
369861 tn?1306275686 Oddly, when I was put on diuretics prior to hospital stay, my heart enlarged, urination qaudrupled, and I flushed all the potassium and salt out of my system, and passed out with an over working heart. While at the ER, the ER doc said I had congestive heart failure, the 2nd morning, I had a stress test, passed with ease, then during the week a heart cath, no abnormalities. After leaving the hospital, I visit my cardiologist that performed serious of test, ultrasound, echo, etc....
Avatar m tn My question is, what do these results seem to say? And, can it be AI with normal sodium, potassium levels and no hyper pigmentation? Ready for this nightmare to be over. 2 years ago I was a marathon-running 23 year old who had never had any health problems.
Avatar n tn I got up and felt a little better and got cooled off, then it started to happen again and they called 911 and I went to the hospital. The hospital did a bunch of checks and said I was fine. Today I refuse to take synthroid. I'm too busy to be passing out in places. Has anyone else had this happen?
Avatar f tn Now my musle cramps have returned 2-fold. I requested that my doctor change my prescription and prescribe the synthroid as opposed to the levothyroxine (no brand name). Since the synthroid had presented no problems for me when I took it. I have my fingers crossed that this is the problem.
Avatar n tn Further, it is counterproductive to take too large a dose of Synthroid (T4) and you are quite possibly in this category. You take T4 and it is converted to T3 which does most of the work in your body. However if you take too much T4, then you will produce an excess amount of Reverse T3. Reverse T3 inhibits the action of T3, so is defeating the purpose of taking T4 in the first place, and it can make you feel even more hypo than when you started. This is to be avoided.
Avatar n tn I am just wondering that is the hypothyrodism the cause for both high level of uric acd and cholesterol. I am a 56 years old post-menopause woman and had never have thyroid and gout problem before. However, the uric acid and tsh level were just getting higher and higher every year for the past 2 years. I am afraid if I don't get any treatment now, it may later develop gout and other symptoms. What type of treatment should I have now ?
Avatar f tn m told that my potassium level is very low. I have been taking a supplement and my second set of blood work and the potassium is still low. Waiting for the next step now.
1891163 tn?1321119046 Doc now says I have anxiety issues and wanted to put me on Zoloft. I blame the Synthroid. I said no to the Zoloft and told him I was going to stop taking the Synthroid. I just quit taking it last week, so I will have to let you know how it goes as time goes on. My sister also takes Synthroid, a very high dose since her thyroid was killed due to over activity. She also has major "panic attacks".
Avatar f tn I was reading about the cytomel and stones. The nephrologist wants me to remain on the synthroid and cytomel. I take other drugs to prevent stones and at this point he wants me to make sure that the thyroid issues are handled. I take allupurinol and potassium citrate and hydrchlorothiazide for stone prevention, So you can imagine, I take many drugs and at 39! I was actullay able to shed almost 3 pounds this week. I will let you know on the blood work.
Avatar f tn I had muscle twitching as well- esp while on Synthroid and before my higher Armour dose. My endo PA thought it was unrelated and most likely due to dehydration (or stress) but I didn't agree...
Avatar f tn My doctor started me with lowest dose of Synthroid. Now am at 100mcg one year later and symptoms are mostly okay except still hard to lose weight (even though am working out and dieting), brain fog/loss of train of thought...but the worst thing is the hair breakage. It seems to have gotten worse with Synthroid. I have lost 8-10 inches of hair.
