Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid and libido

synthroid

Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism about 6 years ago and immediately started 100 mg of Synthroid, and before i was on the medication i had a sex drive. I'm not sure what is going on, if synthroid could be the cause ( even tho my TSH levels are normal) OR the fact that i am really low on iron? other than that i am a very happy human being ( no stress/anxiety) and i truly wanna find a cure to this, any suggestions???
Avatar m tn ED is directly related to my Synthroid dosage. I dropped from 100 mcg to 75 and had no libido or function... Upon returning to 100 mcg libido is good and function are ok. I use Ambien to help with insomnia which I believe is harmful. What do members recommend for sleep help? My endocrinologist goes by TSH only. How do I locate a good thyroid doctor???
Avatar m tn After brachytherapy for my cancer, I am in remission, and after 2+ years resumed taking androgel. I am on androgel again, and have high Testosterone levels (about 1000), but my libido has never recovered. I also have had hypothyroidism, but have been taking synthroid for it for many years with no adverse impact on my libido. Does anyone have a suggestion for what to do?
Avatar f tn Was diagnosed with hyperthyroid and taken off all Synthroid (100 mcg) a day. Five weeks ago TSH 0.01 and FT4 2.1 now TSH still 0.01 and FT4 now 1.7. I would really like to know why TSH hasn't moved in five week? How long will it take to return to somewhat normal levels. I am now in Afib. Ugh!!!! Thanks for your help, sure could use some answers.
Avatar m tn I am self testing at a private lab. I am diagnosed hashimoto's and take 100 mcg synthroid daily. I am feeling hypo and want to get tested at a private lab out of pocket. Is free t3 and free t4 enough or do I need tsh done as well?
Avatar f tn Hi I've recently had like no sex drive for awhile now and I'm wondering if its because of my meds I'm on. I'm currently taking synthroid, and abilify, lamictal, extra calcium, potassium and magnesium because my perithyroid was damaged during the removal of my thyroid. So what could be the cause of my low libido and what can I do to fix it? Any suggestions would be very much appreciated thanks!
Avatar m tn I have had many symptoms, including fatigue, low libido (including ED and difficulties reaching orgasm), cold extremities, tingling and numbness in hands, arythmia, urinary flow and bladder infections, blurred vision, and low temperature (now often below 36C). I understand that some of these symptoms can also be linked to the pituitary, such as the low libido (including ED and reaching climax issues) and the blurred vision.
Avatar f tn And the low libido? What libido?? And yes, the fatigue!!! I get you so much! It is inexplicable. You wake up feeling as if you haven't just slept at all. Everything tires you out. There is never any energy. I am on a boatload of meds, but nothing helps the fatigue. The only thing that ever helped was Vit D. My levels were incredibly low, which I was told was common in Autoimmunes. Sunshine is the best way I get my Vit D, which helps boost your Serotonin levels, which helps the depression.
Avatar f tn Hello, I have been having symptoms that are related to hypothyroid at least according to a few different doctors that I have seen recently. However, they change their story completely when they get my blood results back from the lab and they say that there is nothing to worry about. However my newest doctor insists that I should get an ultrasound to verify if there are any nodules.
Avatar f tn All, i have been looking into my (newly-ish) diagnosed condition... Hypothyroidism (? ism?) I have quite a few questions and quite a few examples and don't realllllly know where to start but i guess the best place is at the beginning... I am a HEALTHY (for all other means) in shape twenty five year old woman. I work out three to five times a week, am six feet tall and range in weight from 135 - 173 (we will talk about the high range in a bit) So what is the issue?
Avatar f tn I'm a 40 year old female suffering with Hypo for the last few years. I was diagnosed after a routine physical where I noted I was having weird bloating, zero libido, inexplicable weight gain despite working out hard core 4-5 days week and severe mental fog affecting my work. I was put on a low dose of Levo for about 6 months (25 mcg) which helped some, but the weight gain persisted. I decided it was time to see a specialist and this is where things REALLY went downhill.
Avatar f tn The third doctor put me on Synthroid 0.05m, and I felt great right away, my energy, good mood and libido was back. Even my children said I am a better mom on pills. 4 weeks later I almost fainted from the high blood pressure 164/104, family doctor told me to stop Synthroid immediately and put me on high blood pressure pills "take as needed". 3 weeks later I was able to see my endocrinologists, who advised to take only 1/2 pill.
2086869 tn?1358362730 Recently, I had my followup lab work and my TSH was 0.02 and my T4 was 0.66 ... my family physician decided to up my dose to 75mcg and of course recheck in 6 weeks. At this time, I had decided that I wanted to do a little research to actually learn a little more about Thyroid diseases. I never realized how symptomatic I actually was!
Avatar n tn ve been on the Synthroid for several days now, and have noticed pronounced heart palpitations, and even worse insomnia. Are these symptoms normal during the first weeks of starting Synthroid? Will they subside as my body adjusts?
Avatar f tn These are my lab results as of May 2010. I am on Synthroid 100mcg. I've been on that dosage for about 5 months and I was diagnosed in 2008 but i was started with lower dosage leading to where I am now. In the last 3 weeks I've been getting my sleepy spells, moodyness, my knees hurt, depressed, very heavy periods and my libido it's slowly coming back. I am due for lab work until September, but i doubt my doctor will increase my dosage considering that my TSH is at normal.
Avatar m tn I am 38 years old and married. I was perfectly normal and having high libido with no problems of erection. I have been using A-Z multivitamin tablets (either centrum or boots) along with one or two fish oil capsules for the last 3 years. I had an ongoing hair fall since my teen ages, which sometimes slowed down, specifically when I was back home in Pakistan. When I was in the UK, the hair fall increased. It's in the family. It never completely stopped.
2167803 tn?1338529751 What is difference between loss of libido and erectile dysfunction? Can a man suffering from erectile dysfunction have strong sex drive and vice versa ?
Avatar n tn m looking for one who will give me cytomel like before, and then maybe add a little synthroid to get the tsh down to below 1.0. the docs all have their quirky ways, especially the old docs. they seem to believe synthroid is the cure all, and everybody feels good btwn 2-3 tsh. WRONG. not all of us are NORMAL. lol good luck..
1696240 tn?1308183023 3 weeks into it i was still having side effects from the synthroid (rapid heartbeat, palpitations, extreme fatigue,no libido,no emotion, dizziness, chest pain) basically probably overmedicated. and my symptoms only increased with my period. Decided to see my obgyn, who thought i really needed an anxiety type medication and told me to just stop the synthroid since my tsh wasn't that high. ran all my hormone levels and gave me buspar.
Avatar m tn Until my ablation 7 months ago, I had an AVRT very closely related to WPW. Mine was Circus Motion Tachycardia and I had it nearly all of my life, and I'm now 60. In my case, it in no way affected my libido. AVRT like Wolff Parkinson White is an electrical condition, and should not affect libido. I would look atnthe medication used to control the tachycardia. They can and often do supress the libido. How deep of an investigation have you done on your condition?
Avatar n tn I have now been taking 150mg of Wellbutrin XL for about three months, and have noticed no imprvement. If anything, my libido has diminished even more. Since most people report a boost in sex drive with the Wellbutrin, I was wondering if I am just an atypical case, or if perhaps my dosage is not high enough to experience the improvement. Thanks for your help!
Avatar f tn I had surgery in July and another to recluse the wound in August. My libido has went down since then. Now every time I have an orgasm is causes my nerves to jump in my left foot and start to tingle. Then about 10-15 minutes after the orgasm my foot starts to hurt. Is this normal ?
Avatar f tn but he said It told him I was slightly hypo and started me on Synthroid 50mcg. Tests also show insulin resistance, vitamin B deficiency and low D. Ok....my question...is the fact that my TSH went from consistently being in the 1.20 range for 2 years to a jump to 3.35 more of a significant indicator? I had read somewhere that an increase of TSH is a sign of hypothyroidism? So the more TSH the less productive ones thyroid is?
Avatar f tn m really alarmed and how my libido has dropped so much during the past six months. I eat healthy and practice yoga 3-5 times a week, but the only time I think about sex is when my man lets me know how horny he is. He's been supportive and understanding, but he deserves to be sexually satisfied, and of course on some level things I've lost interest for non-medical reasons.
Avatar f tn I was born in the Ohio Valley in 1955. The doctor had a radiation treatment done on me prior to me going home to start my great childhood. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism approx. 20 years ago. Each time I go to my doctor, I have the same problems... fatigue, weight gain, dry skin. depression, and lost libido. I request the doctor to increase my Synthroid. He is reluctant. I'm sure I need to go to an endocrinologist.
