Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid and irritability

synthroid

Avatar n tn I started taking synthroid on May 2 and was suppose to have a period around the 19th of May but never did and here it is June 9th. The strange thing is that periodically I feel like I am going to start, (symptoms that I usually get before I do) but I guess I just wish I knew if this was normal or not.
Avatar n tn After a few days of taking the medication, I noticed I had become extremely fatigued all day long and have also recently noticed irritability. Could these symptoms be caused by taking the generic form of the medication?
Avatar n tn m working with my PCP and cardiologist to reduce the current 150 mcg of Synthroid due to tachycardia and other hyper symptoms (weight loss, heat intolerance, fatigue, irritability). What would you suggest as my targets for TSH, T4 and Synthroid dose? Could you recommend an Endocrinologist in Tampa? Thanx again!!
Avatar f tn I have a slightly underperforming thyroid and was put on synthroid which made me nauseous, even when the dosage was lowered. So I have now been put on 25mcg of cytomel and am having real trouble falling asleep. My doctor told me to half the dosage but I still cannot sleep and am now taking sleeping pills as well. I usually take the cytomel in the morning and I read somewhere that it can help to take it at night, which doesn't make sense to me.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism about a year ago and have been on various doses of synthroid since. I'm a 40 year old female. Over the past few months I feel more overwhelmed with everyday things and if more stressful situations arise if feel like I horribly overwhelmed. I was always one to be able to handle a great deal of responsibilities but now the smallest things seem like to much at times. Is this a hypothyroid symptom? Does anyone else have this? How do you handle it?
Avatar n tn I believe after the iodine treatment you would be hypo after awhile..and have to take replacement ...synthroid (example) Not sure..someone else will correct me if I am wrong.
Avatar f tn Was diagnosed with hyperthyroid and taken off all Synthroid (100 mcg) a day. Five weeks ago TSH 0.01 and FT4 2.1 now TSH still 0.01 and FT4 now 1.7. I would really like to know why TSH hasn't moved in five week? How long will it take to return to somewhat normal levels. I am now in Afib. Ugh!!!! Thanks for your help, sure could use some answers.
Avatar m tn The bad, excessive sweating stopped!!! Was a happy woman. 6 months later DR tested and wanted me back on Synthroid, and I said only the lowest dose I will try. Its only been 3 days on 25mg/1 a day and I'm sweating again!!! I just can't understand how one low dose pill can be so damaging to me....
Avatar m tn So I saw my endo and he gave me a prescription of 0.025 Synthroid and said to get another blood test done in June. Then I went to see my other doctor a week later and he showed me the TSH results and they were 10.30! T3 Free and T4 Free were normal. HE gave me a prescription of 0.05 Synthroid! I just faxed all this to my endo and awaiting his answer...which would you take? I also still have major irritability hmmm...
Avatar n tn He has had angry outbursts and his hands shake. His endo tells him that his thyroid levels dropped too low after surgery. Does anyone have similar symptoms postop?
Avatar f tn Please post your FT3, FT4 and TSH results with reference ranges. Your symptoms could be related to your FT3 and FT4 levels more than to generic vs. brand name. My endo also thinks that brand name drugs are more consistent. I go along with him since it's a small point to concede. I've been on generic, Synthroid and Levoxyl at one time or another, and, quite frankly, I see no difference whatsoever. Different brands have different fillers, and sometimes these cause problems.
Avatar m tn Hi, I have been taking synthroid 137 mg and experience dizziness often. I have had all kinds of test run for the dizziness. (MrI) etc. Everything comes back back normal. Could Synthroid cause the dizziness? Or could hypothyroid cause this? just wondering.
Avatar n tn He started needing synthroid about 2+ years ago and had no reaction to taking the synthroid. His arms and legs are covered in hives and he has tried cortisone creams and other oils to moisturize, but nothing helps. He had his Tsh checked a few months ago, and we didn't hear from the doctor, so assumed the same dose of synthroid was needed. Perhaps it is not so. This itching is making him miserable, and nothing helps.
605458 tn?1539228808 It is unlike normal or even PMS irritability. It comes on SO fast and I act before I can stop myself. I throw things, kick things, hit things. It is embarrassing and I am afraid of it happening in public. After the event, I can see how it was inappropriate and an over-reaction. I'm too old to behave like a 13 year old throwing a tantrum. I'm wondering why my bipolar disorder has evolved into this.
1691407 tn?1332712547 Irritability and grumpiness are side effects of the interferon. My husband had both. Forgetting or being irritable over irrational things could be a side effect, or it could be HE. Check with his Hepa.
Avatar n tn Nope. Just a sign that you're pregnant. I get that way occasionally too and I'm currently overdue, which reeeaaallly helps w the irritability part. Lol.
Avatar n tn Ok Mommys I have been extremely irritable and hormonal the last two days and I just don't feel good at all. No consistent contractions but I've heard increased irritability is sometimes a sign of labor coming soon. Anyone have experience with this?!?!
Avatar f tn s ? if not...tell them you have the flu and you feel really bad and irritable. that you are sorry for yelling......and you will talk to them in a couple of days...i felt really irritable off and on the whole time i tapered( 10days ) and still get that way at times...one minute i'm calm..and the next min. i'm yelling...it's hard becuz sometimes it feels like my emotions are raw and i just feel really jumpy...but it will get better!
2010625 tn?1329372056 I have started to become nervous and irritable again and it is scary. I was like that for two years straight and I really don't want to do it again. I eventually got diagnosed with PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder), and later with Bipolar Disorder. The only thing that made it go away was the Risperdal they put me on. Unfortunately I had to go off of it because it raised my prolactin (the hormone that makes women lactate and can also stop a womans period) level sky high.
903476 tn?1242237037 My symptons are fatigue, weightgain, irritability and sevear cold intolerance. I see my GP every 6 months for bloodwork and ultrasound for the things I have growing on my thyroid. He has never told me what numbers my levels are at or even what is growing on my thyroid just that it's not canser and my tests are normal. I have asked to see a endocrinologist but he says that my conditin is not bad enough for a endocrinologist.
Avatar n tn So, take and adjust Synthroid, and get blood tests (get Free T3 and Free T4 test), make sure get his Free T3 and Free T4 level to the top part of the normal range. His body should tell you where is his best level.
Avatar m tn I tested a tsh of 6 and was put on .25 mcg of synthroid. I then came off the effexor and I wonder if the effexor was causing the hypo and a problem because I am still on synthorid. My symptoms are irritability, and sometimes weaky, shaky. Now, could I be becoming hpyER now or is it just adjusting to stopping effexor. I see a specialist in one week.
2086869 tn?1358362730 Fatigue,Weakness, Weight gain, Coarse/dry hair, Dry skin, Hair loss, Cold Intolerance, Muscle Aches, Constipation, Depression, Irritability, Memory Loss, Abnormal Menstrual Cycles, and Decreased libido .... I have it all!! However, I decided that I was going to wait out my 6 weeks to see if the medication adjustment helped any. I just recieved my results back and my TSH is 0.01 and my T4 is back up to 1.80. I actually have not heard from my family physician yet to see what his plans are ...
Avatar n tn I have been taking thyroid meds (Synthroid .075mg) for about 2 weeks. I originally started out on .050mg, but noticed no improvement in my tiredness, so my doctor added to my dosage. All together I have been on the meds for 4 1/2 weeks. I originally had problems with weight gain, irritability, tiredness, etc.; all the usual symptoms. I still notice that I have a major problem being tired, and have mood swings along with irritability.
Avatar f tn I went to my Endo two weeks after my GP and he said I needed meds and put me on .75mcgs of synthroid. Since then wich is two weeks ago I have felt miserable, depressed, gained 6 pounds completely bloated and moody. It was almost right away after the meds that I felt like this, my fear is that my thyroid is functioning normal now and that I am giving it medication and causing harm. I am seriously thinking of coming off the synthroid and seeing how it goes from there.
