Common Questions and Answers about Synthroid and hot flashes

synthroid

1026267 tn?1257591273 I think it has something to do with the thyroid thing. I was experiencing the same thing. I had a TT 3 years ago and started having hot flashes off and on. Yes, I'm 43 so you'd think it could be menopause but I went to my gyno and had tests and it's not. They come and go with me. I'll have them all day long for 2 weeks straight and then not all for months. I'm on 125 mcg of synthroid 3 days a week and 137 for 4. I also take 5 mcg of Cytomel everyday.
Avatar n tn Here's my problem: I have Hashimoto's disease and was on synthroid. But was constantly tired, fatigued, not able to lose weight, etc. I switched doctors and they said that because levels are low, I'm producing too much TSH so they suggested I go off of synthroid. Way too much TSH could be causing my tiredness and symptoms. Also at the same time, they discovered that my insulin is on the high side of normal.
Avatar f tn If Tsh is .11,can this cause palpitation and hot flashes.Cannot take hormones. Tks.
Avatar f tn Actually the family member who has cyclothymia had hot flashes before the onset of menopause and has thyroid problems as well and has to take a minor dose of synthroid so it might be the first which is always worse in bipolar and the second which is a possibility.
599170 tn?1300973893 I did however take remifarin(sp?).....from a health food store.....it helped with the hot flashes and other symptoms at the time...I took it may be a yr...or less....have had nothing since. not sure if this can help ne one.....hope it can.
Avatar n tn Since then I have had hot flashes and I get overheated easily --- a lot. With no ovaries, it must be the thyroid medicine, right? When I saw that hot flashes and sweating were SEVERE side effects of the medicine, I stop taking the medicine on Friday. As of Monday, I am still having hot flashes. It's too early for a doctor to be open in our area. I'll call one this morning, but I don't know when I will be able to get into see him.
Avatar f tn Because it sure has been happening to me, and now that my TSH is higher, I am having more heat intolerance/hot flashes, carpal tunnel, and fatigue. I do not know what my anti-bodies are now, probably won't make a difference. This discussion is related to Hot flashes & heat intolerence with Hashimoto's!.
Avatar f tn I had my thyroid removed 5 years ago and am on synthroid. These hot flashes just started a few days ago and happen frequently during both day and night. I am also a lung cancer survivor of 8 years. Suggestions why I am getting these hot flashes???
Avatar n tn Prior to that, no meds for several years, and before that, PTU for hyperthroidism. In past 6 months, I am having hot flushes and wondering if it is menopause (I'll be 50 this year) or if I need to reduce my synthroid dosage. Am getting blood test this week to check TSH level. I also feel confused, like cotton is in my head, and am having difficulty remembering anything and I am slow to get things done.
519035 tn?1348275773 Hi There, I have been on synthroid for 7-8 weeks. 100 synthroid, before taking synthroid my periods were always the same time every month. Very painful and heavy but what I considered normal. Was supposed to start on the 10th of this month and have been spotting since the 8th. It is driving me crazy! Find out the results of a pelvic ultrasound tomorrow. I haven't had the side effect of the warm face, I am hot all the time though. Hope you find out what is going on.
Avatar n tn I was curious, in general, has anyone noticed menopausal symptoms being more severe and earlier onset due to taking synthroid and having a hysterectomy? I have 3 sisters and we are all close in age... 53, 52, 51 and 50. I am the only one who appears to have started meno and I have had very strong symptoms. My sisters say none of them have really started yet.
Avatar f tn since I began chemo a year and a half ago, after bilateral mastectomy with lymph removal. I have been on tamoxifen for almost a year now and still have hot flashes, vaginal dryness and itching, leg pain and swelling. I also take synthroid (after treatment of graves disease years ago). My OB/GYN suggested an antidepressant for the hot flashes and vaginal dryness, but I've since heard that it can reduce the effects of Tamoxifen.
87651 tn?1259602403 today was the first day i felt a bit foggy and tired. my guess is that my natural hormone has been depleated and the synthroid has not built up all the way. the literature says synthroid takes about 2 weeks, sometimes 3 to fully engage. sound like you are doing great. i'd be concerned about the 99.5. i don't blv hot flashes actually increase core body temp. maybe repeat in an hour? did you have any problem with a post op itchy rash on the neck and shoulders?
Avatar f tn I had TT 4 years ago and am now experiencing the wonderful world of hot flashes. I'm inclined to think the hot flashes are related to the fact that my meds need to be adjusted once again but my doc wants to wait a bit longer before retesting. It's not gonna make much of a difference anyway since I've been on every dose of Synthroid known to mankind and I always feel great for a bit, then I feel like this. My tongue burns, my muscles ache, my hair falls out and now the hot flashes.
Avatar n tn I was put on .25mc of synthroid, felt real good not too long after I started. I then noticed around 1PM & afternoon got real tired like I had to sleep & yawning alot. Also hot flashes. Told Dr's office & he told me to take 1/2 of 25mc pill. That seems like nothing not to mention cutting that little pill in half again. Have you heard of this?
Avatar f tn Not thinking anything of the increase I have been increasingly having problems with anxiety, nausea, hot and cold flashes, just feeling horrible. Went back to the dr and he suggested antidepressants to which after two failed attempts because the drug made me feel incredibly worse I am finally having bloodwork done tomorrow for my thyroid. My question is would having such a small increase of my last bloodwork give me all theses symptoms?
Avatar n tn synthroid will not cause hot flashes hair loss or weight gain. the synthroid will keep these from happeneing. you need to be on synthroid or maybe perhaps armour. I am doing qui te well on the synthroid.
Avatar f tn I have times when I suddenly get a intense heating radiating from the center of my chest outward and the my whole body will become hot. Any Idea what is going on?
Avatar f tn Hi. I had my thyroid removed due to stage 1 thyroid cancer. Ablation was Sept 2009. I am currently taking 137mcg of Synthroid, but notice some symptoms of Hypothyrodism. My blood work, according to my doctor is perfect T3, Free 381 T4, Free 1.6, TSH 3rd generation 0.12 (indicates hyper). He wants me to stay on the same dose. I am wondering if combining Synthroid with a T3 supplement (cytomel???) would help eliminate some of the hypothyroid symptoms I am having?
Avatar f tn So are the hot flashes and palpitations. Keep an eye on them 'cause with too much Synthroid in your system they could get worse. Yes, you need a specialist. Kick Kaiser until they get you an endocrinologist who specializes in thyroids.
Avatar f tn when I told her about my hot flashes and weight gain at age 38...And was blown off...It sounds like your Dr is doing a good job...Your Endo will sort things out. The birth control pills should only be a temporary fix, and once you get normalized again, you should feel a lot better..Good luck...It ***** to feel bad all the time...
327369 tn?1326119908 I can deal with fatigue, moods, aches/pains but i can not deal with hot flashes!! They are awful and make you feel sick! i had thyroid toxicity from the medicine so be very careful cause that can give you a heart attack!
168348 tn?1379357075 Hello, all. As a lot of you know I had TT done on 2/28 and working on getting synthroid straightened out. The last two days I feel like I'm running a fever but not. I just feel flushed and having hot flashes and real tired and a lot of muscle aches. Just can't hardly do anything. I had no cancer and my last TSH was 3.533. Any idea why I'm feeling so badly?? I'm on 125 of Synthroid. So for the question of the day...how do you feel on a scale from 1-10...
Avatar n tn I am also going through the typical hot flashes, fatigue ,and inability to lose weight. I am on levothyroxin and was started on a very low dose of 25mcg and now I'm on 50mcg. I don't feel any different at this point. Now I don't know what my symptoms are actually from. My levels started at 7.56...not sure how low that actually is because this is all very new to me. If you care to share, please do.
1653394 tn?1302267377 I have been experiencing pain on my left side of my body along with strong palpatations, hot flashes and extreme soreness for the past three months. I am confused as to why I am experiencing such discomfort on my left side of my body, but my results from thyroid ultrasound were negative. Below I have pasted my blood results indicating my thyroid issues. In addition, I am have a very difficult time sleeping. Do you have any recommendations or suggestions? tsh.03/normal range is .35-5.
Avatar f tn I have been on it for over 3 years with good results. Then recently started experiencing nocturnal itching and hot flashes. Switched to Synthroid for one day- both improved . Decided that I wanted to stick with desiccated thyroid and after being on Synthroid for one day took Nature thyroid for one day. I feel that the itching is returning. What is going on?? It's supposed to be hypoallergenic? I'm on same dose as Armour 30 in am and 30 at 2pm. Thanks!
Avatar f tn I would mention the hot flashes to the doctor, but being 43, could be the problem. My hot flashes/night sweats actually slowed way down once I started on cytomel; but then I wasn't overly sensitive to it either - that could make a difference. That said, you might need to get all your levels tested again, because that could mean your FT3 is going too high.
Avatar f tn says it works great on reducing hot flashes. If this is so maybe I will cut back on HRT for hot flashes. Thanks!
