Common Questions and Answers about Swollen eyelid due to allergies

swollen

Avatar f tn However, now I switched back to the first doctor, she said that the swollen eye was due to the damage on my cornea. I started using the medication she prescribed, and my vision have been better. However, my eye is still swollen. What could be the cause of my swollen eye and would it go away? I have been using the steroid drops for a month now. Thanks so much!
Avatar f tn Also i notice when i pull down my eyelid i see like this idk what to call it i think its part of the eyelid that holds the eye, it is also a little swollen . . . I don't im freaking out i pray its just a minor eye infection and nothing serious that can damage my eye -.
Avatar n tn Partially, I believe it is due to constant rubbing and irritation from allergies. I think it has gotten a little better now that I am taking fexofenadine (allegra) every morning.
Avatar f tn I have a swollen eyelid that no doctor has been able to treat either, supposedly no allergies. Thanks!

Avatar f tn My 3 year old son if getting eyelid swelling on and off suddenly, 2 weeks back he had fever with high temperatures and after 2 days suddenly his left eyelid swollen, we immedietly took him to the doctor and he doubted it might be Periorbital Cellulitis and he gave antibiotic shot and prescribed 10day antibiotic course.
Avatar f tn I often wake up with a large, swollen eyelid. This has happened for over a month now. It alternates between both the left and right eye, top or bottom eyelid, and sometimes even both. There is no pain, and the swelling is normally reduced after using a cold compress... I have not noticed any patterns as to when the swelling occurs, and went weeks without makeup to see if that would help (if it was an allergic reaction.) Nothing seems to be effective, what could be the problem?
Avatar m tn I have sort of an odd question. For the past 2 years or so, my right upper eyelid looks a bit swollen. It isn't tender to the touch or anything, it just looks a tiny bit swollen compared to the left eye. Now here is where I want to mix it up a bit. My fiance (She's Female, I am Male) has allergies, and she is constantly wiping her eyes and rubbing them. I would say that one of her eyelids is more swollen than the other as well.
Avatar m tn It is possible the eyelid is drooping making it appear swollen. Also, after so many operation, it not uncommon to have a swollen lid. Dr. O.
Avatar f tn s, eye doctors and they just say it is due to allergies or allopecia.... Most women want to have eyelashes, me included.... The only eyelashes that I ever pull out are a few that grow into my eye at the corner of my eye lids closesy to my nose. The rest twitch and itch and fall out, and my eyelids are about three times more swollen then they use to be....

Avatar f tn Hi, welcome to the forum, swollen eye indicates allergic conjunctivitis or angioedema. You have a positive history of allergy. This can be complicated by bacterial or viral infection. Also swollen eyelids or face, esp. in early morning, are sign of kidney disorder. The renal disease (kidney) like nephrotic syndrome, glomerulonephritis, and renal failure can cause such symptoms. You need to undergo urine analysis, renal function tests and radio imaging of the kidneys to rule out the cause.
Avatar f tn I experience swollen eyelids every now and then but have been unable to pinpoint it to any kind of food or medication. It usually starts off like the size of a pea somewhere on my eyelid, doesn't hurt but is uncomfortable for my eyelid crease when my eye is open. If i worry about it, the swelling increases and takes over my entire eyelid. I take phenergan which knocks me out and sleep it off or another antihistamine.
Avatar f tn Yesterday afternoon my eyelid was a bit itchy. Thinking nothing of it I just scratched it. A couple hours later it swelled up to the point where my crease is gone. My eyelid has now just become this deformed looking thing. I put ice and tea bags on it to no avail. I thought it would go back to normal once after I went to bed but it's still the same. I even missed school! What can I do to bring the swelling down? And does anyone know what the cause of this is?
Avatar m tn this swelling has happened to me a few times b4 it lasts a while then goes away and feels weird on my eyelid like it makes a different folding feeling and its visualy noticable.
Avatar f tn I went back after a week and the infection had gone but the peeling stringy bits was still there but he said that it was due to allergies and gave me allergy drops that sting my eyes so I haven't been using them. I have noticed that I have two little lumps on the inside of my upper eyelid. Now the stringy bits aren't as bad everyday but some days they are bad and keep appearing.
Avatar n tn The provider told me it was a bug bite and prescribed me benedryl. Well just when I thought all was fine two day later I wake up to both eyes swollen shut. Again I immediately put ice on it and go to the hospital. New provider prescribes me more benedryl and an antibiotic ointment and tells me that it is eczema. Next day I wake up to my eyes with a bright red rash on them and swollen more than the day before. Again on goes the ice and back to the hospital.
1699538 tn?1306942986 I have it for about a month and when to the clinic got cream but if got more swollen and red. The itchy is stating to go to my lower part of my face. This is my first time with this.
Avatar f tn I have a friend who has never had any known allergies, nothing strange has ever happened really, and he's quite healthy. We were watching a movie and when it was over I looked over and the area just below his right eye (but not on the eyelid) was swollen so much he couldn't look down. It was very squishy.. like one huge, tough blister.
Avatar n tn I am a little confused, I have been to my med dr. twice with a swollen right eye, it swells just above the eyebrow, eyelid and the corner of my eye. They gave me a steriod shot and 10 days of steriod pills. I started taking benedryl when it happens and it helps bring it back down slowly til it goes away. Now right under my chin swells to when this happens and I get a knot feeling in my throat. I am at a lose, where do I go next to find out what is wrong?
Avatar n tn So almost 2 weeks ago now, I woke up with my right upper eyelid (only) so swollen that my eyebrow looked like I just had an overdone face lift on one side of my face. I tried putting cold compress on it, no change, as the day progressed swelling decreased, but not completely. Next day same thing, took some Actifed and rested for a few hours. This seemed to make the swelling go down quite a bit.
Avatar f tn I popped part of the pimple on my eyelid and it has lessen on the swollen part, but there is another pimple like bump on my eyelid. I'm hoping to be able to pop it also due to the pain of it. Is this healthy or right way to treat it?
464551 tn?1207630359 The irritation has stopped for the most part but last night my left eyelid started to swell. I woke up this morning and it's gotten worse. I've never had any allergies that would cause my eyes to react this way, and it's never happened before. The closes incident I can think of is when I was working in an animal shelter and working with the cats made my eyes all red and itchy, but it went away after I flushed them out (and there are no cats in my apartment).
Avatar f tn It is important to determine that the visual problem is due to the eyelid sore and not secondary to more internal structures like the blood vessels of the eye and retina. Apply a warm compress over the eye for 15 minutes. Seek immediate consult since this may be painful and you need antibiotics for this.
