Suboxone and hair loss

Common Questions and Answers about Suboxone and hair loss

I know that's what allopecia is but I'm 30, I look sixteen, my hair was soft, and like thick beyond belief and hair loss doesn't run in my family. Either side. I have no doubt its the suboxone. I know my body. The question is... will it come back after jumping off? Will a smaller dose (I've been on .5 for about a week now. Before that, 1/3 for two months) allow the body processes to continue to cause hair grow again? Nothing where it fell out from just yet. Still frizzy. Anyone help?
Has anyone had hair loss on suboxone and it grew back after getting off suboxone? And by hair loss, I mean, receding hair line, thinning. Not just because you had a couple hairs on your hand in the shower. Any help?
I did, and I have severe anemia, hair loss, fatigue, depression, anxiety, and no self esteem. I wish I never did it . I'm also battling an addiction to suboxone, which is just as difficult to stop as painkillers. My luck to everyone!!!
My son - 28 - just noticed that he has lost a substantial patch of hair above his left ear. The hair loss begins in the upper sideburn area and extends above and around the ear. Because his hair is long it really doesn't show much but he is concerned re cause and progression, This does not seem to be a "normal" area for the beginning of male pattern hair loss- and there is no loss over the other ear.
My hair started thinning about 4 months ago, and I see a noticeable receding of my hair-line, and only within the last month has it become so rapid that I now have only 50% of my hair on my scalp left. I've noticed my eyebrows, arm hair, and leg hair started falling out about a week ago. I can pull on my eyebrows and every time I do I get about 1-4 hairs. I had blood work done and tested normal for my thyroid. I don't take any medications, but I've recently quit suboxone and apprazolam.
Just a few days ago, I went in to another forum under Alopecia ( hair loss ) and one of the doctors responded to me and told me that methadone is a definite cause of hair loss. This made me feel so much better, I have been tapering off for 2 years now, going very very slow. But that doctor in the forum told me that when I am off the methadone my hair will grow back. I would assume this goes for pretty much all narcotics. I am glad to know I am not the only one losing hair.
I understand that this could possibly cause withdrawl because of the naltrexone present in suboxone. Also, how long have you been on the suboxone and how high of a dose were you on of the buprenex? I'm thinking maybe you might be having slight withdrawl symptoms because you were used to getting the buprenex without the naltrexone. Just curious. Maybe we can work out a way to chat through some other means if your interested. Let me know. Take care all!
I've been on Suboxone for about 10 months. My hair use to be long, straight, and course. My hair is not only falling out but you can hold a hair up to the light and see the thickness change in each hair. With an educated guess concerning how long it takes my hair to grow, the timing is just about right from when I first started the Suboxone. I couldn't believe how dramatic the hair goes from thick and course to these little puny hairs that continue to fall out.
Has anyone experienced hair loss from Suboxone? I have lost almost 1/2 of my hair and Dr. can't find anything wrong after all of the standard blood tests, etc. The only thing I can think of is the Suboxone because it is the only medication I take other than Adderall. 2. How long does withdrawl normally last (HA! as if there is a "normal") but I just prolonging the agony by weaning down from here?
Has anyone experienced numbness in hands in the morning or poor blood circulation while taking suboxone? I have been taking suboxone for about a month and a half now for vicodin withdrawal and since I have been on it I have been waking up every morning with my fingers swollen really bad and numbness and today for the first time it was painful in my first two fingers on my right hand and in my lower arm.
The itching started small after a few weeks on Sub But now I scratch everywhere there is hair and just below my knees , my back arms, and high on my butt. Don't know for sure if the drug is the cause or maybe it would have happened anyway as these skin problems can attack anyone. I itch until the skin breaks and stings. Scabs form. My prescribing Psychiatrist changed me over to Subutex to see if it may be the naloxone and his second guess is Psoriasis.
I have been taking suboxone since monday. I started off with 8 mgs a day. I felt great and happy. The third day is when the cravings started. I called my doctor and he suggested I take another 8 mgs. So I take 8 mgs in the morning and 8 mgs in the evening. It worked wonders. I am still doing great, making sure I stay well hydrated and eat small meals like the Dr. suggested. However being day 5 and the weekend I find myself craving vicodin more and getting angry easy.
You've spent 6 years now on methadone and suboxone combined.. whats a few weeks of not feeling physically well and a few months or residual withdrawal compared to 6 years!
“People come in with endocrine problems—thyroid dysfunction, low testosterone,” which kills sex drive, “and hair loss. Tooth loss with Suboxone,” which is orange-flavored and is usually dissolved under the tongue. Scanlan’s big concern: bupe’s 37-hour half-life, which makes the drug build up in the body when dosed every day. “Look at it this way,” he says. “If I maintained you on oxycodone, and every day I gave you one milligram more, you’d never complain, right?
I speculate, based on treating hundreds of patients who have been on Suboxone maintenance, that when Suboxone is given long-term it causes abnormal adaptations to opiate receptors and other brain receptors. In my experience, long-term use can cause emotional deregulation, loss of libido, hair loss, and an abnormality in how the body regulates its response to stress. Suboxone is a mixture of buprenorphine and naloxone.

Two days ago I ran out of suboxone. I have been on 6mgs for 6 months. I didn;t have the money to get them. The withdrawl I went through up till 4 hours ago when I got some cash. It was soooooo horrible. I was an emotional wreck suicidal and freaking right out. NEVER go cold turkey. It is soooo nasty!!
There is a wonder drug out there called suboxone. (It's sort of like a methadone and its very expensive if not covered by insurance.) However, it gives you your life back w/out the w/drawl symptoms. You of course have to find a doctor who is licensed to prescribe this, but it's not too hard. Alot of people have said it's a "miracle" drug. You probably need a day or two when first starting the medicine to see how you will react.
Im not sure where to ask this , but this forum seemed like the best place, im currently 43 days of suboxone, 5 years of opiate, methadone , and suboxone use im 26 years old,my hair is fallimg out more and more , im scared to touch my hair, i counted around 40 hairs in the shower today, at first i thought it was the clonodine, but itx been more theb a week since my last dose, i use ephedra i do not abuse it, i was told my hair is falling out because of my sensativity to stress, or nervouseness, i
This post is turning more into a rambling story of what could be anyones life .,, but for me had I not been on suboxone and the dr & counsler to help through it all, I would have never made it. I know that for a fact. It doesn't take much to hord allot of pills & some booze,(which I don't even drink) rent a hotel room for 3 days paid and say bye bye. So if I need subixone for the rest of my life, so be it.
I drink bottles of water all day, a habit I acquired while in AZ and yet have constipation, and even experience a little hair loss - enough that it alarms me in the shower. I take a very small dose of Paxil- 10mg- since the 911 tragedy, and I take suboxone- which started in AZ after my hysto to get off all the pain meds. I have remained on it as it seems to stabilize my moods and my Dr. has been ok with that. It beats taking any other meds.

I was on Methadone for over a year and my doctor suggested that I try Suboxone as a method of pain management... It has worked great..I would like to know, however if this med causes hair loss. I am a 42 year old female and I have been through the ringer with meds.. I have been on almost every type of narcotic there is at one time or another and I am not an addict.. I was narcotic dependant for a long time and I have had so many facet blocks it isn' t funny... this stuff works..

I tappered down to 30 mg's a day and today I traded my 80 oc for 8 8mg suboxone and now it's just me getting off 100% You have to do it for yourself and just to be normal again, because you don't know what you look like on drugs **** I barely remember this yr...
My husband is taking both of the pills listed above and is buying them from dealers. It has been going on over 3 years now and has really gotten expensive. He has HepC and I have told him how damaging this is to take these pills with his liver disease. He says that he can't work the way he does without them because they give him energy. I am starting to see the sudden outburst of anger. Especially if I say anything about the pills.
