I have had since cutting down my pills a constant pain in my chest and the constant feeling of shortness of breath is horrible. I know its psychological but that doesnt help whilst in the throes of one of these attacks and if an attack really takes hold of me I get tongue rolling and twitching which can go on for days. Breathing into a paper bag does nothing for me. What a relief to find this forum.
These symptoms all sound so familiar. In August I started having shortness of breath. I'm 46. I had a CT scan done on my lungs and found out I had a small clot in one lung. After some blood thinners they said the clot is totally gone but I continue to have shortness of breath.
Attacks last for several hours, making me feel as if I'm suffocating, even though I breath perfectly well. I find a couple of benadryl will help calm the symptoms, but put me to sleep as well. I've had doctors who suspect GERD, or similiar, and the Protonix seems to help slightly, but not a cure. Strangely enough, a glass of bourbon seems to help more often than not, but I have no interest in self medicating down that road.

It all depends on if you doctors think you need a catheterization. Other problems like blood clots going to your lung can also cause shortness of breath and chest symptoms. If you are not moving around a lot or have other risk factors for blood clots, a CT scan or V/Q scan can help evaluate this possibility. Regarding the "70 yr. old man have a stress test one day, this cardiologist tells him it's ok. That night he dies from a heart attack.
I had an exposure 1 month ago and now have a bloated stomach and possible shortness of breath. I also had blood from my penis when opening my bowels. So far I have not had any of the classic ARS symptoms but they may yet still arrive. I am going for a text at 6 weeks but wondered if anyone has seen symptoms like this before ARS.
I am an athletic 34 y/o female non-smoker with a history of mild asthma, allergies, epilepsy, and narcolepsy. (Easily run 5 miles at moderate pace w/no asthma meds needed.) Have had high frequency of respiratory illness, stomach flu, and unusually high fevers (>102) associated with same over past 11 months. (No increase in exposure to germs.) Also went from 150 to 131 lbs (5ft 7in) in past 11 months (but seem to be holding at 130) with no diet and only moderate, usual exercise program.
I am also glad I found this post, since I was beginning to feel like I was the only one who had such a complaint, and it was just plain weird. After several years of putting up with these "flu-like" symptoms after aerobic exercise, I think I have finally found out what's going on. While scanning the web searching for answers, I came across a site that deals with digestive ailments, and their possible influences on your body.
Shortness of breath, abdominal cramping and excessive mucus are all listed symptoms of a possible food allergy or food intolerance. Allergies show up on labs tests, intolerances do not. An elimination diet is how to pinpoint food intolerance/s. An autoimmune disease called celiac disease should be ruled out. Also test for thyroid hormones. A few ideas to go with.

Since then I have had increasing chest pain, shortness of breath, and a nasty taste at the back of my throat which causes me to retch sometimes. I try to cough up some mucas but I'm never able to. I also suffer from panic attacks and anxiety which doesn't help. Yesterday, I really struggled to get a breath and had chest pains and went to hospital. The ECG showed abnormal and they thought I had a clot on my lung.
Add me in there to with restrictive gasp of oxygen about every 15 to 30 minutes, plus I get slight cold sweats with moderate exercise and the shortness of breath along with the coughing up the annoying lung mucus and the last thing on my complaint list is the tiredness with moderate exercise, did I mention the excessive sweating that goes with the moderate excursion, just about forgot the shortness of sleep most nights (5 to 6 hours max).

In Mexico there have been many deaths from pneumonia that sounds like ARDS to me. The crazy part about all this is that I never considered all these symptoms to be part of quitting smoking. I thought the stomach flu was somehow lingering and spreading around my body in other ways and kept blaming all the symptoms I was having on the stomach virus and started getting the bad anxiety because I kept thinking it was still the stomach virus but knowing that stomach viruses don't last that long but thinking I must have caught a new strain with changing symptoms lol.
I am trying to talk myself out of thinking it a pulmonary embolism because I am not having any chest pain with it, or coughing which are common symptoms. Don't you have to have chest pain with shortness of breath to have PE, or not?
