I would keep a close eye on your symptoms and how you feel. If you get severly out of breath, get someone to take you to the doctor ASAP, since it could be a major asthma attack or the start of pneumonia, both which need immediate treatment.

Five weeks ago, I had a bad case of the stomach flu. During really hard vomiting, I felt like a lump was in my chest. Afterwards, I started having bad relux and shortness of breath. A week later, I was in the emergency because I couldn't take deep breaths. After numerous tests including blood work, ekg, chest X-rays and urine tests, they determined I had a bad UTI. All my other tests came back normal.

With your strong family history of heart disease and the flu like symptoms you are having, you should be seen by a cardiologist for follow up tests. Flu like symptoms, stomach upset, heartburn, shortness of breath, unusual tiredness are all symptoms of heart disease. Make the appointment today to see your doctor. Let us know what you find out. I, too, have a strong family history of heart disease, but show no symptoms to date.

Not as bad as the first one, but still have them. my symptoms are mainly shortness of breath and the feeling that i am gearing up for another heart attack. the shortness of breath is scary and hard to deal with. I went ot the doctor and now have xanax .25 (smallest dose). it's only good for 4 hours at a time, but it takes the edge off the panic and stops that not feeling like i can't breathe. Big deep breaths from the stomach (don't let your shoulders move up and down) help too.
However, monday I randomly began experiencing shortness of breath accompanied by me not having much of an appetite. I really don't know what's up and I went to a doctor, my oxygen level was fine, I don't have allergies or asthma they said my heart was fine so I don't really know what's up has anyone experienced anything like this or any advice please?

aweeonetolove - I had that same shortness of breath while teaching today, too! I was also REALLY hot in my class today, too- I posted about my symptoms in the symptoms thread just a minute ago, but I did get that shortness of breath today and it was really frusturating - hopefully that symptom won't last long.
therapy on Minocycline and was hit hard during the middle of last week with flu symptoms and now shortness of breath. I went to my regular MD (not LL) because my LLMD is very tough to get in to see on short notice, and (of course) my regular MD said it could be a virus that's going around, my oxygen levels are fine so it's nothing to worry about. It's really scary and happens a lot when I lay down or do a lot of physical activity.
Shortness of breath can happen for lots of reasons.

I also looked up the syptoms of an allergy to the formaldehyde found in carpet and the short term effects are flu like symptoms, and the long term effects are shortness of breath, chest pains or tightness, cough and weezing!! It all fits! I sure hope this is it because I want to get better before allergy season starts back up!!
Lately I have been having other issues such as shortness of breath and excessive burping that would release this shortness of breath. I have had numerous tests such as a breathing test done by a pulmonologist, a heart ultrasound by a cardiologist, and ultrasound and CT of my thyroid. All of these tests came back normal with a few variances, but nothing that alarmed the physician.
