Stiff neck sore upper back

Common Questions and Answers about Stiff neck sore upper back

sore

I have had a sore, stiff, burning at times neck for months on left side it goes into shoulder and I can feel it on left side of upper back and into between shoulder blades. It started almost 6 months ago. It's gotten worse over time. I was getting massages in march when it started for anxiety that I developed a couple years ago. The massage felt good but they would stretch me to during the massage and I think it was too much but I don't know.
If amoxicillin and calvepen (phenoxymethylpenicillin) didn't help I have to wonder if your sore throat, sore ear, and sore neck are more from a virus. But 2 weeks is a long time for a virus. I'd get a second opinion if I were you. Dr.
I've been having a stiff neck on the lower back of my neck near my upper back which bothers me whenever I look up. I always worry about things and whenever I check about it I see things relating to meningitis which freaks me out. Know if anything is wrong? And I had a very slight headache but I think that's from the creatine I just started taking today. I started panicking a little and took a shower and an hour later my temperature was 99.1 which is making me panic even more. Please help.
although I do like the electrical stimulation to the back of my neck. As long as it is on it relieves some pain. to my neck and upper shoulders. Back is stiff, sore and aching . No fast or sudden movements, but if I stay motionless for too long I get very stiff can barely move. Back aches even with pain meds. Do not feel well, I imagine it is due to pain meds, lack of sleep and constant pain.
4 days ago, I woke up with a bad sore throat, very swollen and painful neck glands, stiff and sore back of neck and bad headache, dizziness, fatigue, and fever. I also was hurting all over--including my skin. It progressively got worse (except the headache and generalized aching) and I finally went to the doctor 2 days ago. I was tested for strep and it came back positive. I was given pennicillin. My question is about my stiff/ sore neck. It hurts to turn it either way. Both sides hurt.
When the neuro done one of my MRI's, he included the brain stem and reported to me that the only thing he saw on it that could be causing this was some mild degenerative/ arthritic places in the back of my neck and upper shoulders. But besides some cracking which I have in my knees also my neck never was stiff or hurt before the onset of my neuro symptoms. My shoulders and upper back hurt a lot, but not my neck.
and see if he can help you. I suffer with tension in my neck and upper back, and I visit the chiro every 3 weeks. You may feel immediate relief if this is your case.

I have had early in the mornings sore neck muscles, palpitation, tremor and sweating. I have no sweating during daytime. I don't know whether these are due to overmedication (Thyroid Erfa) or undermedication. I am hypercalcemic. The neck muscles are also weak and stiff when I have those other symptoms. Ihave also a slightly enlarged lymph nodule(?) in the neck. The parathyroids were not seen in MRI scannin for parathyroids. I have a lung tumour (not specified what it is).
This past year I have been suffering from upper back tension every day. I'm a little concerned now since it's been going on for about a year now. I'm in pain everyday, all day long. I find this unsual since I'm only 21 fit and have a healthy diet. I try to keep a good posture and take muscle relaxers but doesn't help much. Is there something else I can try or should I seek a local physician for help?
Initially, I thought it was a neck injury that flared my shoulder, necks and upper back from 5 year previous but I thought "how odd" I haven't really every noticed this before. My husband rubbed and rubbed, eventually I was prescribed 6 weeks of therapeutic massage - 1 1/2 hours the first week, 1 hour a week following. He gave me a lot of instruction in dealing. It strangely slowly went away with the other symptoms during that time.
injected pain medication into my upper spine for neck and back pain and thats when it started about 3 months after that and it's never gone away; getting worse.
When I get up in the morning sometimes my back seems stiff and a little sore but doesn't hurt. The pain comes on as the day goes on and I seem to notice its a little worse when I'm on my feet a lot. I have been going to a chiropractor once a week for a couple of months now. He said it was a rib head out of place. The adjustments seem to work for a couple of days to a week before the pain comes back. Is there something else I can do for the pain? It's not severe, just very annoying.
I took a HIV test six weeks later and it has come back negative but I am still worried about it. My neck has recently been a little stiff and my shoulder joints have been sore at times and now my arm muscle, especially my upper right arm, is sore. I have NO other symptoms of HIV. Do you think that anxiety may be to blame for the soreness? Thanks in advance.
My neck has given me trouble since the accident and symptoms would flare up in the form of a very stiff neck. At times my neck was so sore and stiff that I could not lift my head off of my pillow. The stiffness would last a few days and everything would fine again… for a while. Six months ago I had a severe flare up and my index finger and thumb on my left hand went completely numb.
I am 35 and for the last couple of months I have awoken with a stiff and sore neck. It doesn't really go away through out the day. I've switched pillows, slept w/o a pillow just to see if it would help, but no... I have onset diabetes. My fasting blood sugar is somewhere between 115-145. I do get night sweats of various degrees. Some nights are drenching, and some are just a cold sweats. I've associated this with the diabetes. I am not over-weight. I'm 6' 2" and about 195-205lbs.
About a month ago, I began waking up with my upper back very stiff and sore. The pain would eventually work itself out and I would be left with my usual muscle aches. A couple of weeks ago, I began getting a tingling feeling spreading from behind my right shoulder blad, into the back of my upper arm, and even rasdiating around to my chest area. It feels like there's a vibrating muscle massager inside of my skin- but without the therapeutic effects.
When the intense stinging/tingling pain is not happening, then I am left with a extreme sorness, as though a knee is in my upper back. This only happens on my right hand side. My arms and hands often go numb when the pain is at its worse. I can sometimes move the "stinging" area up and down by pressing my shoulders or neck. This began about 2 weeks ago with only the odd sting a couple of times a day, but now it is happening every 2 minutes.
Also, this may sound silly but none the less it's true, my spine get's so sore from my neck, half way down my back. Is this thyroid related? I noticed my Endo Dr. tapped my spine all the way down and asked me if it hurt. It didn't hurt at the time but, it get's sore especially of the mornings when I first get up. Although this doesn't happen every morning. Waiting for your answer. Thank you.

I have had MRI's done of the Cervical spine(neck region) and Lumbar spine (lower back) I have a lg hernated disc in my neck and degenetive disc disease with an annular tear in my lower back. I am going to also request my doctors to do an MRI of Thoracic spine (middle back) because they haven't done an MRI of that section yet.

The right shoulder blade area (rhomboids I believe) are usually the area that responds to liver inflammation IIRC. I get a stiff neck, sore shoulders, sore traps, dizziness, etc. The virus is a toxin. Toxins get stored in muscles. Trigger points are muscle knots with toxins involved. This is why after a deep tissue massage, they tell you to drink plenty of water for a few days after. To flush out the toxins. Muscles have a memory too.
About 6 months ago I started having pain in my upper arms and across the back of my neck and shoulders. It was like a really bad stiff neck. Approx. 3 months ago the same type pain has occurred in my upper legs as well. In both areas, I am experiencing muscle weakness. If I try to lift or pick up something over my head, it is very difficult. After sitting or sleeping, the pain and stiffness is very bad. After walking the pain and stiffness decrease. I am a 55 year old female.
In the last 4 weeks my back muscle between my shoulder blades are sore only when I stretch but not sore tho the touch. And my lower kneck is sore and stiff. I have never had upper back strain like this before.. I don't know if its related but sure is strange. Anyone have any ideas???? Thank you for reading....
My doc seems to think it's a ligament problem and my C6 and C7 (the two lower vertebrae of your neck/upper back) are stiff as a result which is why it's causing the pain. I'm not convinced. I've also had this for a few months now and I've seen specialists and doctors and physio's and osteo's and nothing has worked. I'd at a loss. I'd love to keep in touch to see whether either of us find some kind of result from this. It's sad that doctor's just don't seem to know that much about it at ALL.
