Avatar m tn 4 [0027] These cases involve the administration of simvastatin to patients with known Hepatitis B and C, and other causes of liver cirrhosis, mainly alcoholic. All of these patients had normal alphafetoprotein levels and were given simvastatin on a daily basis since their first diagnosis of their liver disease. None of these patients showed an elevation of alphafetoprotein during an observation period.
Avatar m tn Simvastatin is contraindicated in pregnancy and liver disease, according to Wikipedia. I also know that Cresor 40mg is not recommended for Asians. I would like to know why you believe simvastatin and or statin in geneal have ant-hbv activities? Have you heard of cases where statins cause acute liver failure in chronic hbv patients?
907968 tn?1292622204 -- Long-term use of cholesterol-lowering statins does not increase the risk of liver disease in patients with abnormal liver function, and can actually improve liver function, according to a new study that challenges widespread belief. The researchers also pointed out that this study is the first to show that statins provide a substantially greater cardiovascular benefit in patients with abnormal liver function than in those with normal liver function. The study, published in the Nov.
Avatar m tn Advicor (lovastatin/niacin extended-release), Simcor (simvastatin/niacin extended-release), and Vytorin (simvastatin/ezetimibe).
Avatar f tn Statins are being found to be much safer than previously thought. For instance, it has been determined that statins help increase liver function in individuals with liver disease. As result of recent studies, the FDA is preparing to remove the threat of liver damage from the list of side effects. Also, the study being referred to above is the ENHANCE study that did not find that the addition of Zetia made Zocor more effective.
Avatar m tn i think the the claims on liver damage have been made because drug makers knew about the antiviral effects of statins and to avoid their use so thatthey can sell the more expensive antivirals until now there is only a study on decompensated cirrhosis (end stage) with portal hypertension and simvastatin and all improved liver function, here is the link.
Avatar m tn It is recommended that liver function tests be performed before the initiation of treatment with Vytorin, and thereafter when clinically indicated. There have been rare postmarketing reports of fatal and non-fatal hepatic failure in patients taking statins, including simvastatin. If serious liver injury with clinical symptoms and/or hyperbilirubinemia or jaundice occurs during treatment with Vytorin, promptly interrupt therapy. If an alternate etiology is not found do not restart Vytorin.
Avatar f tn Ramipril has been indicated to cause sexual problems, but both these drugs can affect liver function and in turn affect sexual performance.Further more, statin drugs can cause muscle weakness and may lead to a drop in overall energy level. Whenever you suspect any side effect, you are supposed to contact your doctor, who would advise you how to correct the problem by adjusting the dosage or with alternative medicine. So, please consult your doctor for help.
Avatar m tn Statins work in the liver and every commercial I have seen advises not to take if you have liver problems. Zetia works in the intestines. Was the Zetia working? If my memory serves me correctly, MikeS is taking statins and he had a TP. He is far more knowledgeable on the subject than I am and hopefully he will see this post and give his input. Zetia is part of a class of drugs called cholesterol absorption inhibitors.
Avatar m tn s interesting is the fact that statins are being shown to improve liver function in those with liver issues. In fact, the FDA will soon be removing liver damage from the list of side effects from statins. Changing your diet will help, you need to do your part. However, your doctor is right not to be concerned at this time. I'm sure he will keep an eye on your liver function, just make sure to get tested annually.

Avatar n tn it works on fatty liver more than hbv, if there is fatty liver the dose is 800iu - red yeast rice supplements with monacolins content higher than 5mg or simvastatin 40-80mg daily.cholesterol is used by virus to make antigens and virions and for their assembly inside cells.
Avatar n tn was on lipitor for 5 months and switched two weeks ago to simvastatin in hopes of less side effects. just got some blood work done and the liver enzymes are elevated about one and a half times normal. does anyone know if its normal to see a spike in liver enzymes after switching statins or does this mean my body is rejecting the new statin?
Avatar m tn 5 or 2g 2g can lower healthy bacteria in the stomach of some so probiotics are suggested on the 2g dose of alinia and on simvastatin it is better to check main blood tests, liver tests and creatinine for kidneys every 6 months
Avatar m tn check also who is making the research on simvastatin, and that liver damage has been removed recently, at least here in italy
Avatar m tn Tenofovir and Entecarvir only stop or reverse liver damage. Yes, it could help you get undetectable HBV DNA, but it also worsen your liver cells' infection? Does that even make sense? Because they inhibit HBV from growing, should they lower your virus load, then your liver should become less infected, and have time to repair itself? Alinia seems promising at dose 2g/day for HBeAg negative.
Avatar m tn Are you still on Sim and how is it working?
428155 tn?1203688894 in New Zealand), which my GP had prescribed me 2 years beforehand to control my cholesterol level. I stopped simvastatin and all fibrillations have disappeared. As I was taking simvastatin, I was in fibrillation 17% of the time; 1 month after I stopped simvastatin, the level was down to 0%. I am now experimenting with alternative cholesterol control methods: Omega 3 gels, ground linseed, charcoal.
Avatar m tn But in an in vitro study you have a constant exposure to the drug, which is impossible to achieve in vivo. And the cells used are not the same as regular hepatocytes in human liver, with many differences in gene expression and cellular physiology.
Avatar m tn nothing to do with super research, you take simvastatin and then check hbsag, but of course for research you must use better tools but for us even this tool is ok, we just need to see if it lowers it on us sim is ok for people with very little liver damage like f1-f2 and it is better to check all liver parameters if trying it now because in rare cases there is muscle/liver damage
Avatar m tn ) For the past 20 years, I have avoided NSAIDs, acetaminophens, other pain relievers and muscle relaxants because of their adverse effects to liver and kidneys (personally more significant because my dad had kidney disease). Since cannabidiol inhibits the liver's production of cytochrome P450, I am wondering about switching from simvastatin to pravastatin. That would allow me to try CBD, which appears to have minimal side-effects.
Avatar m tn Since it is an azole i was concerned and looked up the drug and sure enough liver toxicity is one of the possible sides. http://livertox.nih.gov/Metronidazole.htm Anbody know if i should take it? Or just to be safe stick with good old penicillin?
