Common Questions and Answers about Psychiatric test questions

psychotic

795475 tn?1237734683 They called today and were on the phone for about 45 minutes, asking various questions about how he feels and past history etc. They have given him a date to attend a psychiatric assessment, which has scared him. He thinks this means they think he is crazy and needs to be put on a psych ward and/or will force him to take medication. I don't believe this is the case. I think its much like the phone interview but with his input on whether meds would help and anything else that could help.
Avatar n tn There is no test for Bipolar, the only way to find out if you child is bipolar is if you took him to a psychiatric and (as the person before me said) document everything that lead you to believe that there could be a problem. A psychiatric would be able to evaluate the issues. It's hard to diagnose a child with a mental illness because children are much different then adults when it comes to personality disorders, or any psychological issues.
443100 tn?1210621862 The may observe him in an observation room (you know, with those mirrors) interacting with a therepist. They may ask you questions. They may ask him questions. They may ask dad questions. Many times the same questions by different people. Maybe you or your son (at 3 i don't know if he will do that, maybe not) can expect some computer questioaires or filling in circles on forms with a number two pencil. Maybe you will see him in a room with a big mirror wth some puzzles or toys.
Avatar n tn Sometimes, and they aren't completely sure why - our natural chemicals go out of whack for some reason or another. I don't wnat to innondate you with too much info. Stress can trigger it, like going to college or a car accident. Some folks are just born lacking the right amount or the chemicals at all. If you feel you've had depression longer then 2-3 months and it's impacting you life like your social life or work. You may want to speak with your doctor.
Avatar n tn My husband and I were separated at the time he was sent to a psychiatric hosptial for drug overdose, and I have told the hospital of my husband's behaviors so that he would not connect him to programs here in my state when he was discharged. My husband asked me what I had told the doctors because they told him they had talked to me he had to stay a little longer. I would not take calls from him only the doctors.

Avatar n tn ve seen psychiatric nurse few times and will still meet her. I also really had to go even to psychiatric emergency because of panic attacks. This other incident makes me worry again even though I try to be very objective and rational. Could you say something about that or the risk? Well I know it's hard since you weren't there. I don't remember seen blood in my hands but im really don't remember so clearly.

Avatar n tn My 22-year-old son agreed to be admitted to a local psychiatric hospital yesterday. I knew he was seeking counsleing, did not know why, I suspect he thinks he is showing signs of schizophrenia. He has not shared any information about signs or symptoms with me. I talked to his girlfriend and he has mentioned to her that he thinks he has signs of schizophrenia. My questions are many, but my first question is regarding patient rights in a mental institution.
Avatar f tn Lastly, there is no truly definitive way to confirm tourettes, ocd, or adhd. Certain neurological test can give more answers. Largely the diagnosis is based on meeting certain criteria. Just try to learn as much as you can and ask many questions. I hope this is atleast somewhat helpful. I wish your son the best!
190559 tn?1280612367 I am wondering if this was what triggered her big emotional reaction that landed her in the first psychiatric hospital. The current psychiatric hospital has an endocrine doc on staff who has done SOME thyroid blood tests and is trying to stablize our daughter's correct thyroid dosage, but they have commented that it would be best if an endocrine specialist direct the correct tests (which might mean more than just tests for the thyroid).

Without the ability to examine and obtain a history, I can not tell you what the exact cause of the symptoms is. However I will try to provide you with some useful information. Lupus is a multi-organ disease.

Avatar f tn Other medical/psychiatric conditions I have are hypothyroidism and bi-polar disorder/depression for which I take levothyroxine (Synthroid), divalproex (Depakote) and bupropion (Welbutrin). The medication information for the Medrol dose-pack states cautious use in those with hypothyroidism, psychiatric history, being treated with an anti-convulsant, and on bupropion, as it could produce mood changes and affect the seizure threshold.
Avatar m tn Most if all tests in China are just as advanced as in Europe and North America; and psychiatric drugs have no effect on HIV test reliability. Feel free to have another test if you like, but it really isn't necessary.
Avatar m tn 1) Re-read my reply above (no. 2). I haven't changed my mind in the last hour! 2) I stress you're at no risk at all for any of these except possibly gonorrhea. The others are rarely if ever transmitted by oral sex. Gonorrhea and chlamydia tests are conclusive any time more than 3-4 days after exposure. The syphilis tests 6 weeks. For HIV, it depends on whether you had a "duo" test (4 weeks for conclusive results) or a standard antibody test (6-8 weeks).
Avatar n tn 1. Have you or someone you know faced sever psychological / psychiatric problems as a result of stroke? 2. Can stroke lead to parkinsons or dementia? 3. What should we observe to identify symptoms of parkinsons or dementia?
Avatar f tn I am extremely fatigued and find it IMPOSSIBLE to get out of bed some mornings, have been to the doctor for a ton of rashes that just come and go, severe anxiety and depression and even was sent to a psychiatric hospital back in November, frequent low grade fevers, excrushiating daily, muscle and joint pain, chest pain, heart pain, kidney pain, rynaunds disease, extreme dizziness and headaches, very sensitive to sun (i cant spend more than an hour or so outside without symptoms), and really bad
Avatar m tn Herpes Elisa antibodies test IgG type specific 11/14/2012 - result: 1.89 (labcorp) ^same test (same location, labcorp) 11/20/2012 - result: 1.65 HSV2 IGG INHIBITION,ELISA (quest labs) 01/2013 - result: The HSV-2 IgG screening assay was repeated at Focus Diagnostics, and the result was not positive (i.e., the index was <1.10); thus, the inhibition study result could not be determined.
Avatar n tn She took both the IGG and IGM tests and both were positive. I also took both tests and was negative. My questions are, how accurate is the IGM test to determine when she came in contact with the herpes 2? Also can you contract herpes 2 from a Colonoscopy? This discussion is related to Blood Test Accuracy.
Avatar m tn You could have the flu or some other community acquired viral illness but for sure, what you do not have is HIV. You did not test too early and you can have confidence in the test results you have received. Take care.
Avatar f tn For complete peace of mind that you are HIV- which I have every confidence you are........have a confirmatory test done at 12 weeks. This test will be 100% conclusive and give you absolute peace of mind. Symptoms are NOT diagnostic of HIV. ONLY a blood drawn test will give you accurate results for HIV. If your mouth is not healing, see your doctor or dentist again. Some yeast/fungal infections are incredibly stubborn and can take weeks and sometimes months to completely clear up.
