Protonix and pregnancy

Common Questions and Answers about Protonix and pregnancy

protonix

I'm all of sudden getting paranoid about taking protonix during pregnancy. My Dr said it was fine, but lack of research on it has gotten me worried. I have been taking Protonix for almost two years now and am not sure if I should stop even though i am already almost 29 weaks. I would hate for my own selfish confort to be the reason for my baby being born with any deffects. Any advice on this would be great. FYI protonix is rated B but again I take it everyday. So very concerned now!
Being in my second pregnancy has made me remember exactly how much I can love and hate being pregnant at the same time. Although I adore my son, and wouldn't trade him for the world, I sometimes wonder how I made it through my first pregnancy. Of course, it was my first pregnancy, so I didn't know what to expect and everything seemed like some magical wonder. No matter how bad things may have seemed, I still couldn't believe that it was ALL because of a baby growing in my belly!
i have had a tubaligation 10 years ago ,,, i missed my period for 2 months i did a urine and blood test that came out negative... i finally got my period but i am still having loss of appetite, nausea, dizzy and always tired... could i be pregnant if so is there another test that i would need to do to confirm that i am not ...
The GI doc did an endoscopy and that's when they found the hiatal hernia and the ulcers in my esophagus. He thinks it is related to the pregnancy but I am just wondering now that it has been 20 months and I am still not getting better. I'm also the same way, my heart rate jumps up when I stand and goes back to normal when I sit. The only thing I have noticed is that it is worse when I carry my son up the steps. I told my cardio doc about it and he suggested maybe I was out of shape.
pregnancy after having a pregnancy with HG, but I agree with the fifty-fifty thing and in my case it had nothing to do with the sex of the baby my 1st was a little boy (HG very sick) my 2nd was a girl (bad mornign sickness, but no HG) my third was a little boy and my easiest pregnancy (very little morning sickness and no HG) and my 4th and current pregnancy is a little girl (HG and very sick), so it seems pretty random to me, basically you need to know theres a chance, but it won't always be th
I have had Fibromyalgia for 14 years. I am 26 years old and take alot of medication for the fibromyalgia (Lyrica, vicodin, soma, Elavil, calcium + vit D, & lidocaine patches) and last year I was diagnosed with Cyclic Vomitting putting me in the hospital twice this year. So I am on stomach meds as well(Protonix, Levbid & Zofran). I went to the ER last week for uncontrollable vomitting and dehyration. They did not test me to see if I was pregnant.
I was very restless and anxious and the warnings were to quit it immediately if I experienced those symptoms. So, my OB put me on Prilosec OTC this week----I have read pros and cons on line.....anyone else out there have an opinion?
He took me off the others because they are harmful to the baby during pregnancy and said that if any problems arise he will put me on something safer but most of the safer meds are only safe after the first trimester. Every time I have been pregnant though they always take me off my metaformin and put me on insulin saying it is safer for the baby.
about 10% of people will feel some sort of side effect from Reglan, mostly fatigue and possibly restlessness. Have you tried any other class of drug? PPIs, like Protonix or Nexium, or H2-inhibitors, like Zantac or Pepcid? (For the record, PPIs also strengthen the LES, although they shut down production of acid instead of increasing the gastric contractions.) Usually Reglan is reserved for people with gastric motility issues. Have you had a gastric emptying exam? If so, what was the result?
I feel the same way too. It get worst every nyt. My dr didnt gve me any medcation and told me that it is quite ok. To feel it.
Sometimes food related, sometimes not and for certain foods it depends on time of the day and activity level. Yogurt and muesli before exercise is a killer!! I've tried tums. No go is not better than eating candy! Eno seems to help (fizzy fruit salt drink), particularly after a few good big burps. :) Sleeping on left side.
That will at times cause extreme pain that goes right to the back. I take protonix for the GERD and gastritis. It's been two weeks and I feel great!
off through the pregnancy, but went away as soon as I delivered the baby. Thanks for your comments and any help on this.
Protonix is one among these four and hence safe during pregnancy. Only Prilosec (Omeprazole) is not safe during pregnancy as it is a Category C drug (which means Risk can not be ruled out). Disk with your doctor about starting Protonix again. =============================================================== The information provided is for patients’ education only and is not a medical advice. My symptoms did not subside at all for many months (including several respiratory infections which required antibiotics that year). I have been on GERD meds (currently Protonix 2x/day) along with an inhaler and singulair. I generally follow all GERD preventative recommendations. I continue to have significant (uncomfortable and prohibitive) shortness of breath (not always, but often with physical exertion and while eating (but only if it was present before I started eating)).
I was treated with a nasogastric tube, intravenous antibiotics, antiemetics and stomach meds like Protonix and Ranitidine. Upon leaving the hospital, I was prescribed short courses of two antibiotics and Asacol, all of which are complete. I'm currently taking OTC Omeprazole, Metformin, HCTZ, Lisinopril and Wellbutrin and Phenergan for nausea (which doesn't help).
Before getting pregnant with my daughter, i was on protonix off and on two years. I didn't have heartburn at all with my daughters pregnancy, but now pregnant with my son, i have so many digestive issues. I have been on Protonix again for almost a month and it helps but not 100%. I don't know what else to do, i also had an ejection fraction of 22% for my Gallbladder back in 2011. Will these problems go away after i deliver my son? Or will the problems persist? Please help, any advice is needed.
I had hg my whole first pregnancy and my 1st trimester this go round. I was on zofran, phenegran, protonix and reglan. Nothing worked until I got closer to my 2nd tri and the zofran worked with the protonix. I still take protonix and zofran and im 30 weeks. It is sooooo easy to feel defeated but just find something that always brings you peace. For me at my lowest I had to have myself a good cry....like gooood snot everywhere eyes puffy cry and listen to gospel music.
So I called her back and got an appt for this afternoon. Well because I am swelling up so early in the pregnancy she felt it was time for me to start modify bed rest for the remainder of the pregnancy. My blood pressure was fine today, but she doesn't want me driving or working anymore. I asked her if I could work from home and she said as long as I was sitting down with my feet up I could do that.
When the hormones return to pre-pregnancy levels, that hair falls out and the normal cycle of growth and loss starts again. Some medicines can cause hair loss. This type of hair loss improves when you stop taking the medicine. Medicines that can cause hair loss include blood thinners (also called anticoagulants), medicines used for gout, medicines used in chemotherapy to treat cancer, vitamin A (if too much is taken), birth control pills and antidepressants.
I'm 34 yr old male and have been experiencing various chest and left arm pains for about three months. I've seen a plethora of doctors from cardiologist to internist to GI doc to psychologist. Heart problems have been ruled out by numerous EKG's and stress echo test. GI doc found I have a hiatal hernia/GERD from upper GI and is currently being treated with Nexium. Have also had ultrasound of liver/gall bladder and MRI of abdomen - all normal.
I am a 24 year old female, and I have been feeling nauseous all day long for about 3 months I started on protonix and stopped taking it because I was severly breaking out and had bad canker sores. Protonix did take the nausea away, but once I was off it, the nausea came back. I then tried Prilosec OTC and now I am nauseous and have a dull pain in my upper stomach all day. I just went to my general doctor again, and he prescriped Nexzium. I have been taking it for 3 days and still fell terrible!
the rest of the pregnancy was spent with daily visitations from these damn things. at this point in pregnancy my digestion was quite bad, almost non existent at times and like all you others i am seeing a link between digestion and these little buggers! My baby is now 4 months, and i am still getting them, i can almost expect them to occur as soon as the digestion process starts to kick in.
right now i am taking 5 mg of paxil, 200 mg of celexa (which doesn't help), 40 mg of protonix--and calcium and prenatal vitamins (i don't plan on becoming pregnant). i am REALLY scared about my nightmares--i have a psychiatric history of depression and hypochondria (i am convinced i have bone cancer right now)-- should i see a neurologist about these nightmares?what is the likely hood i have an undiagnosed illness causing these nightmares? do nightmares usually mean something serious???
I had so bad first pregnancy that I lost 70lbs and felt terrible all the way through. This pregnancy I have it also not as terrible as first I'm halfway through it and I've only lost 20lbs. Protonix is what doc gave first time this time doc is giving Prilosec could be reason I'm not sure. I hope you're getting treatment for acid reflux could cause long term esophagus issues.
I was recently admitted into the hospital last week with a hernia and gastritis. I had abdominal pain and kidney pain. While running tests they also found out that I had a kidney stone. My question is the 1st day I was there the doctor wrote 2 to 4mg of morphine every two hours. The nurse came in originally at noon and gave me a 4mg shot of morphine. At 3:30pm (3 1/2 hours later) I called back and asked for another shot.
I am so tired and it's not happy tired. I would love it if it was to take care of my little one, but not loving it for this. Going to ask my Dr. on Wed. about the acid reflux, it's bad. Other then that, no change, except I keep getting closer. I am so excited, but feeling nervous as well. It's hard not knowing when things are going to happen...I wish there was a way to know for sure. I think that would make this easier.
