Protonix vs pantoprazole

Common Questions and Answers about Protonix vs pantoprazole

protonix

Avatar f tn I am aware of Protonix generic Pantoprazole. I have now been advised by a Pharmacist that Prevacid will help me. Will it?? Is this a Beta Blocker only or more? Are there ANY Proton pump Inhibitors out there other than Protonix and generic?. Is there a hospital injection of medicine that can be given? I will anxiously await any and all replys. I am living on Pepcid now with little relief. My Pharmacy puts Protonix at $737. for 180 40mg.tabs of Protonix and $570 for Pantoprazole.
2064754 tn?1333375663 There are exercises, but it will be difficult for me to explain here. Initially anti-inflammatories and muscle relaxant drugs will help. Protonix (pantoprazole) is used to treat erosive esophagitis and other conditions involving excess stomach acid. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
1140169 tn?1370185076 The gastro report says they biopsied a polyp in my stomach which was benign, and they found my stomach acid is too high in my osophogis (sp). I am to continue taking 2 pantoprazole per day and repeat the gastroscopy in a year. I just thought I'd post my results because I had posted that I had these proceedures done.
Avatar f tn Welcome to the gastroenterology community! From your profile I see that you are a teenager and I assume you live in the US. I would guess that this is anxiety, which I see that you also have from your profile. Pantoprazole (Protonix) is only by perscription and treats GERD which I don't think you have and Domperidone is not FDA approved in the US so I would not recommend either of these suggestion.
Avatar f tn s a highly personal issue. The combination of Domperidone and Pantoprazole (Protonix) has ben pretty good for me, as has something called "Iberogast", which I got from Amazon, and which you can get from a naturopath. Acupuncture has also proven helpful, though i wasn't able to continue that route for a couple of reasons. In the end, the "magic bullet", so to speak, has been a combination of diet, exercise and medications as prescribed by a doc.
177337 tn?1310059899 I'm throwing this one out there. I have been taking Protonix for 7 months. Could this possibly be what is increasing my pvc's? Brook do you know of any side effects from this drug relating to heart issues? I can't find any but I'm sure if I look hard enough.............
Avatar n tn My doc put me on pantoprazole (Protonix) and told me to leave a difference of 30 mins between taking the meds and eating. But I still occasionally had some symptoms, such as mucus forming in my throat. One day by accident I ate 45 mins after my meds, and I was much better that day. So I experimented, and I've found that 45 or even 60 minutes works much better. I thought others might want to know.
Avatar m tn I am in the same predicament as you. I have been taking Protonix (Pantoprazole) for a few years now. If I stop taking it, I have a constant burning in my throat during the day as well as waking up at night. I have seen several doctors and none of them can tell me what is happening. I do notice though, that if I stop eating spicy food like, vinegar, hot sauce and things like that and not eat past 6:00 pm, it works out better.
Avatar m tn gave me Protonix because I was experiencing some acid reflux...I took Protonix for 2 weeks (1 per day at 40mg) .. I have been having very bad side effects... Naseous, dizzy, increased anxiety, palpitations, gagging, insomnia, rapid heart beat. I thought I was dying. I called my Dr and he blew me off saying he never heard of such side effects and that I am getting anxious maybe I should see a therapist. I have no history of bad anxiety and racing heart like this..
Avatar f tn ~$.37/pill for 20mg Generic, ~$.56/pill for 40mg Generic, ~$.95/pill 20mg Brand, ~$1.10/pill 40mg Brand. For the moment, see if your doc will allow you to use generic Omeprazole (aka, Prilosec OTC). While there are better things out there, it might work as a stop gap measure that's not as extreme as Reglan. Good luck.
Avatar m tn Pantoprazole Sodium tablets). First I was taking Omeprazole, 20mg, but insurance wouldn't cover, so he switched me to the generic Protonix. Protonix is a PPI (proton pump inhibitor) and last I checked, Omeprazole isn't. I wanted to know from others experience... Which one gave you less side effects? Also, are the two exactly the same class of medication or different? I also had kidney stones in the past and read that some of the inactive ingredients in acid reducers can cause that.
Avatar f tn What do you ladies take for acid reflux? I'm 31 weeks and a few days and the past three weeks I've been waking up from a dead sleep vomiting from acid reflux. It gets up into my nose. The lining of my throat is burning. I have a cold right now too and asthma so vomiting and coughing is literally killing my throat. I just woke up from sleeping and threw up so badly I peed my pants. I'm so over this. I cant have Zantac because I'm super allergic.
223372 tn?1240920676 I too suffered from intense heartburn my Midwive put me on Pantoprazole a sub for protonix it works AWESOME,AWESOME,AWESOME with no side effects it is prescrption but Im telling you try it the other OTC **** dont work this is one pill a day and no heartburn whatsoever if you miss a day you still dont get heartburn
1210142 tn?1266077031 I have read a lot about the interaction between Plavix and PPI’s but he thinks only Omeprazole have more effect on Plavix, not Pantoprazole. Please, let me know what your opinion is and have you heard about any interaction between those two? I don’t need an additional heart attack.
709686 tn?1277432159 Protonix (Pantoprozole) does not give me problems...maybe a little weight loss. Omeprazole (Prilosec or Zegerid) causes me all kinds of problems. Headache, chest pain, red/irritated eyes, all kinds of body aches, constipation and extreme thrist. Problem is...protonix is by script only and VERY EXPENSIVE! Someone talk to me about this. Has anyone else experienced these problems with Omeprazole?
Avatar m tn I was initially on Pantoprazole (Protonix) 40mg once per day and Pepcid AC 20mg twice a day for about 3 weeks. I took it for about a week before my Upper Endoscopy. He initially told me to take it once per day, but as of about a week ago when my pain became so strong (after 3 weeks) that I couldn't sleep at night, he told me to take the 40mg Pantoprazole twice a day (morning and night) with the Pepcid AC and I take a third Pepcid AC during the middle of the day per his direction.
Avatar m tn rbc was 4.48 vs low end of 4.50, platelet at 144 vs low of 150 on range and 11 MPV vs. high range of 10...all other labs were fine...
Avatar n tn old and have tried all the different perscription medications. I have been taking protonix for about 5 years now and I'm concerned about long term use of protonix and all the other heartburn medications I have been taking for 30 years. I still suffer from heartburn daily. I have had 4 Endoscopy's done at different times and my Dr. say's it does show some inflammation but no Barrett's Desease, thank God.
Avatar m tn Wait a month and go on Protonix (Pantoprazole) and come back. What is the point? I have been on Omeprazole since September 2nd - over 7 weeks and the Endoscopy (done on 10/21) showed my tonsils are the size of grapes! Is that not any indication anti-acids are not working or solving my Dysphagia and swollen tonsils!? I was on Zegerid and probiotics(still taking them) for 3 months prior to September and still had the swollen tonsils.
1176471 tn?1263733305 put me on protonix for a month and said to stop it and see how I do...I still have days that our worse than others..I'm trying to figure out if maybe I have a food allergy which is causing it..I also am trying to read on food combing and diet to see if that would help me...I cut out alot of foods that I think might be causing my symtoms like, onions, caffeine, spicey, fatty, fried foods, tomato based foods...I have not had a test done to check my gallbladder yet...
Avatar m tn I had reflux/heartburn and was presribed Protonix/Pantoprazole, it worked almost straight away with a near constant burning down to a very mild/trivial intermittent issue which felt like a total cure by comparison. Then after just 2 weeks on the drug, i'm getting reflux again mainly when I swallow, I'm still taking the pills but this makes no sense for a drug to work so well so quickly and then habe symptoms come roaring back? What does all this mean?
Avatar m tn http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/barretts/index.ht I am making one such suggestion which you can follow and see. Omeprazole is a good drug to combat this. Along with it you can try over the counter antacids. Avoid heavy meals. Avoid too much of caffeine, tea, fried food and drinks both alcoholic and non alcoholic fuzzy ones. Avoid heavy exercises within 4 hours of a heavy meal. Raise the head end of the bed or raise pillows to 30 degrees. Go to bed at least 2 hours after food.
Avatar n tn There is no 'safer.' It depends on which one works better for you. They don't all work by a completely similar mode of action. So you'll have to try to find the one that works and gives you the fewer side-effects.
721523 tn?1331581802 Hi Ann, Sorry, no experience here, but oh my, I'd be afraid too with the chance of making an existing issue worse. Did you mention your fears to the Dr.? Or, did you do the research afterward, and are now scared? It's that old balancing act, symptoms vs. risks, side affects, etc. Not an easy place to be in.
Avatar n tn Is it possible that geographic tongue can be a side effect from taking Protonix (Pantoprazole Sodium) delayed release tablets?
Avatar m tn http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/barretts/index.htm Please discuss with your doctor about trying a combination of medication. Stop Prilosec and see. Keep a stress diary to see if a particular food causes more problems than the other. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
