Female re causing you to gain weight. Look at the calories before you eat it next time. Most protein bars are meant for people who are already fit and are looking to gain muscle. For someone who is trying to lose weight and already is somewhat overweight, this will translate into fat. Try meal replacement bars instead. Those are often anywhere from 100 to 200 calories and are tastier and just as filling. Watch the sugar on anything, though.

Avatar f tn Google LCHF and you will see a whole bunch of doctors and nutritionists with tons of meals and recipes (simple and inexpensive). Try it for a week and you will see the weight loss happen and food cravings reduce, as this style of eating keeps your blood sugar stable all day long and trains your body to burn fat in absence of insulin secretion. So, LCHF works for me...I love it! I hope the best in your life whatever you chose to do. Good luck and be well.

973741 tn?1342342773 What is the current thinking of protein drinks for weight loss? Are there any good ones? Do you think that they can work to use for meal replacement, say breakfast, maybe lunch and then eat a normal dinner? Pros? Cons?
776302 tn?1241091853 Thanks for your help with Herbalife. If I can drink two shakes instead of food for awhile and lose a lot of weight then I can maintain it with one shake a day. I will try the protein bars. Yes, I know that exercise is the main thing to lose weight and I've been slacking off. I must get back into that healthy habit. I have to lose at least 60 lbs for my heart condition. I feel very disabled at 256 lbs. That's why I will buy Herbalife. Thanks again.

Get yogurt, cottage cheese, maybe some protein bars (I love Luna bars and Special K bars and Slim Fast Shakes), whole wheat pasta and breads, etc. From there, keep a food log. I used one at s park p eople (no spaces) which allows you to also track your exercise. They will tailor meal plans for your specific caloric needs.
29837 tn?1414534648 Let's face it, during treatment most of us lose our appetite and lose weight. The results for some is the Vampira or Nostradamus look after a few months. I just spoke to my pharmaceutical nurse (in charge of monitoring me on the new treatment), and she mentioned a couple of things. Ginger, also Ginger Snaps with a couple of tablespoons of peanut butter (which is high in calories), can help keep your weight up. She cautioned me against sugar.

Avatar m tn Generally speaking, for most people, doubling the recommended daily amount is a good baseline to follow if you have weight-loss or muscle-gain goals. The recommended daily amount of protein is 56 grams so try doubling it. Adding in resistance training might increase the body’s need for protein even beyond doubling the daily dose! Trying to gain muscle, by doubling the protein helps preserve precious lean mass.
1269982 tn?1271173219 If this is not the case, the protein meal shakes may have something to do with your weight gain. Protein shakes are actually not good for weight loss and are used primarily to gain body mass which may then be converted into muscle. Also certain brands of protein shakes actually have a high level of carbohydrates in them which could result in your weight gain.
Avatar n tn For many people, however, unintended weight loss can be a problem. For example, weight loss can be a problem in growing children.
Avatar n tn Protein shakes keep being recommended to everyone on here who wants to gain weight, but too much protein is a problem and we have no idea how much protein people are eating who write on here. The only people in most developed countries who get too little protein are vegans sometimes if they don't eat well and advanced bodybuilders. Most Americans get too much protein. The simple way to gain weight is to add a meal. Pretty easy. Eat the same healthy foods you usually eat, just eat more.

Avatar f tn For your weight, 1000 calories/day isn't enough and you probably aren't eating enough proteins and fiber to keep you satisfied, which leads to binging. Make sure you eat protein with every meal/snack, because protein keeps you fuller longer and it also helps build muscle. Fiber, as in veggies, also helps keep you fuller, but you need the protein with it..
1641877 tn?1378087661 It might be a good idea to put the scale away, keep the tape measurement in hand, add strength-training to your routine (supplement it with high protein and high fiber foods), then measure your weight loss by inches lost, not what the scale says.
Avatar f tn And in reality, this isn’t the case either. Now, to understand how exercise effects weight-loss, you have to understand how your body creates energy, and there are only 2 ways it does it. One is by burning fat and the other is by burning blood sugar, or glucose. Even when you’re not doing anything strenuous your body still burns fat. It’s known as “Resting Metabolic Rate.” So, when you’re sitting at a desk, driving a car, watching TV, or even sleeping, your body is still burning fat.
Avatar m tn protein, which can cause one to gain weight, not lose it. My doctor put me on a high protein diet and by the time I realized high protein wasn't for me, I'd gained an additional 15 lbs when I was already overweight from hypothyroidism... while I lost 23 lbs, when I went off the high protein diet, I'm still struggling to lose the remainder of my hypo weight. Everything must done in moderation.
Avatar f tn Try protein shakes and granola bars. That's what I have when I don't have an appetite. I add fresh fruits to my shake though.

Avatar f tn The eating plan us calked LCHF, which is low fat, moderate protein and high fat. And there are no gimmicks, pills, powders, bars, etc...just real food. Best part is that no calorie counting, eat until full. Also, it canceled my cravings and I no longer snack anymore. I also need to remind myself to eat, as I'm not hungry anymore (I used to be ravenous all day long). Basic meal is VEGETABLE + PROTEIN (meat, fish, eggs) + FAT. Example is egg omelette with bacon and asparagus.
