Prometrium breakthrough bleeding

Common Questions and Answers about Prometrium breakthrough bleeding

prometrium

We tried Angeliq for 4 months but my hair became dry and brittle and I had breakthrough bleeding that became continuous until the end of April when I stopped taking it. At that time, my doctor put me on the Vivelle Dot - two .1 mg patches changing them 3 times a week. This month I started using 100 mg of Prometrium inserted in my vagina (to be used for 12 days).
She said to expect some breakthrough bleeding because I haven't been on bcp's in a long time. I was on Ortho Tri cyclen about 3 yrs ago with no problems. Bleeding completely stopped after taking the bcp for 2 days/3 times a day. I then proceeded to finish out the pack 1 pill a day. About a day or 2 after the bleeding stopped, I started to spot again. Doc said to expect breakthrough bleeding. After about 2 weeks it got heavier and heavier to the point of a moderate to heavy period.
If you take the prometrium every day, it will likely cause you to not have a period or to have light, occasional breakthrough bleeding. Typically, a 100mg dose is enough for daily treatment, a 200mg daily dose for 10-14 day treatment. If you stay on the Provera (medroxyprogesterone) you should not need more than 5 mg. Machelle M.
of hormones, you can also have breakthrough bleeding. Perhaps the quickest way to easily identify whether irregular bleeding and other menopause type symptoms (hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings) will go (and stay) away is to stop cold turkey. If you don't have them, nor do you get "hormone insufficiency symptoms" such as dryness (vaginal dryness, mouth dryness, dry eyes, dry skin), insomnia, anxiety, or low libido, then you are okay without hormone replacement therapy.
I was prescribed that because I was not having breakthrough bleeding. While its true that Prometrium helps build your uterus, if there is a 'period' coming, the built uterus breaks down completely. However, if you fall pregnant, hence no period, Prometrium helps continually build your uterus (which is a good thing). After week 12 though, your placenta takes over to develop progesterone, so you would not normally need its supplements.
im thinking pcos although dont have any of the symptoms no excess hair growth, im not overweight, dont get breakthrough bleeding. i am a nurse so do realkly horrible shifts and of course stressed every day!!! got docs soon, its day 55 today going to do another test, dont feel no different tho.
I had been chartign for 6 months and never had a temp increase after ovulation and my luteal phase was never longer than 8-9 days. I also had breakthrough bleeding/spotting for several days before AF, and AF was very heavy, long, and painful. After doing a lot of research, I felt fairly confident that progesterone was the culprit, and I started using an OTC progesterone cream after ovulation. I got pregnant that same cycle.
And the use of progesterone does seem to be more problematic in dosing to both protect and prevent breakthrough bleeding or spotting. And over-the-counter progesterone cream has been shown to not be effective at protecting the lining when taking estrogen.
I just foudn out they have a new Prometrium on th emrket that is generic and it does nto work. My RE hs had many mc with it and it ws a mistatke that I got it by the phrmacy.
said cervix was closed and all test results came back favorable. Dr said don't have exact explanation for breakthrough bleeding but as long as it is not fresh bright red blood followed by cramping and clotting then not much to worry about, but will keep watch to make sure. I am schedule for another U/S on next 2/21 and 2/26.
she said that usually when you have continuous bleeding it is just called breakthrough bleeding. even if it is really heavy like a period, if it is between your regular time of the month it is still technically considered breakthrough bleeding. when this is the case, it usually means that you are not producing enough estrogen. it can also sometimes be a sign of an std or infection. there is also the possibility of cysts and fibroids and endometriosis.
In terms of my symptoms after being on HRT, I have had no hotflashes at all, no night sweats, not too emotional. I tried the FemHRT combi patch but had real hassled with breakthrough bleeding (have my uterus still) and issues with allergic reaction to the adhesive of the patch. I then went onto pill type. I have had quite sore breasts so I am now going to swap to a lower estrogen option and see how that goes.
heightened smell sensory, frequent potty trips, and I'm wondering could it be possible I'm having some breakthrough bleeding from being pregnant.. Or possible periods starting again?.. Help!!
I am doing a FET, so I am only on estrace and getting ready to start prometrium on Wednesday. We did our first FET last July which was successful, but unfortunatly I miscarried. I have been having a lot of uterus issues.... but today it was 8.5mm! Yeah! This will be our 3rd FET. I am praying with everything in me that this month is succesful!!! Tons Of Baby Dust!!!
I have heard that a lot of women with BU still have cramps and bleeding (basically a period) althought they are pregnant. My doctor said that when one side is pregnant, the other may still continue to have a period. Aybody know anything about this? Thank all of you for sharing all of your stories. It has really helped me!!!

docsaf - 9/10 Welcome mich183 and kikkleh! Besides progesterone sup/prometrium, I read the followig may help with implantation: vitamin B6, bromelain (in the pineapple core), acupunture, omega 3, baby aspirin; particularly pineapples (only for 1-5 dpo), sunflower seeds, milk, and no caffeine I am taking crinone 8% to help with implantation this cycle. I am going to buy a pineapple today - the pineapple core is supposed to contain the bromelain. are either of you doing acrupuncture?
I am a little discouraged today... I have my sono scheduled for tomorrow and I'm still bleeding. It always happens to me when I'm starting b/c pills - I remember bleeding as long as one month in the past... And I know that I can't have sono during active bleeding. I just called my clinic and the nurse should call me back soon. I'm only hoping that it won't delay my whole cycle too much....I was ready and prepared and now I kind of feel in limbo...
I had the mirena in for about 13 months & had it removed end of august to try to get pregnant. I had thought it was more immediate. I found out it can take 3-6 months for your cycle to return. my husband and I are pretty bummed because we would have removed it earlier (or never had it put in). Anyway, I bled a few days after removal (probably due to the removal) & then nothing until a couple days of brown spotting at the beginning of this month.
I have just had a Mirena coil fitted to try and cut down on the heavy bleeding and bleeding between periods. I had an ultrasound at New Year which showed several small fibroids which they didn't think were causing the bleeding. The doctor has identified a small hard sore which she thinks is a cyst on my cervix. I have a check up in 5 weeks for the coil and the cyst. I have a third smear test in April although the last one (October) was normal they said.
At least now I don't feel like I'm going crazy. My period now is 21 days late with no bleeding, spotting or anything, but these test keep saying negative. I guess I'll wait it out and let another month or so go by and see what happens. Again, thanks for your response.
I started getting some light to moderate bleeding (dark red) and cramping on the evening of the 25th and has been constant since then but apparently cramping and bleeding can be a side effect of prometrium suppositories. Just praying that the bleeding and cramping stops in the next day or two. Next beta is Sept 3rd so I'll be right there beside you in spirit getting blood drawn and hoping for baby.
I never thought I would ever be as happy as I am to be feeling cramps and be bleeding.. hahaha I'm so happy for a new, fresh start. I gotta call the nurse now to schedule the many test I'll be having this cycle, hgs, follicle ultrasounds and cd21. I'm being positive and hoping for a good next cycle for all of us!
my skin is also very dry this year ,,but the arms I know just what you mean ..good luck !! im on prometrium & estradiol.. was on before didnt do nothing ,,my skin seems to be a little better ..
