Prevacid and gallbladder

Common Questions and Answers about Prevacid and gallbladder

prevacid

Avatar m tn Welcome to the gastroenterology community! No, I don't believe that prevacid can cause gallbladder problems.
1391312 tn?1421086993 Yes Bill, I have been taking the Prevacid 30 mg 2 X a day, and has stopped working for me. I have been on a lot of different ones over the years, I will let you know what he puts me on this time.
Avatar f tn I used ibuprofen pretty often each day for about two weeks for severe pain in my hand and finger joints. I began to have chronic nausea, got off the ibuprofen, started taking Prevacid and Pepcid Complete, then Reglan per doctor's prescription. Bad side effects from Reglan--irritability, dizziness, depression, sleepiness. Got off of it. After about 4 weeks, I still have some nausea and only want to eat starches and sugars. Had gallbladder removed 6 months ago.
228015 tn?1223693378 He put her on Prevacid for 2 weeks and if she is not 100% better in 2 weeks he is going to check out her gallbladder. It has been almost a week and she is taking 30mg of prevacid everyday and she has tummy pain EVERYDAY well its not tummy it is in the center in between her breasts but right below them. She said it hurts all the way through to her back, but comes and goes it is not constant she said it does not start gradually but starts hurting really bad all of a sudden.
Avatar n tn does this mean its not my gallbladder.. because i honestly feel like im dying and they sent me home with prevacid! HELP! I vomit almost every time i eat, i feel horrible.. i just want some relief!
Avatar f tn I'm in the same boat as you. Every weekend for about 4 months I was noticing the nasty burbs, a sour stomach...then hours after I would throw up and have loose stools or one or the other...was worse when It was both at the same time. It wasn't my gallbladder. So my doctor did tests for H. Ployri...and I tested positive. So I was taking a triple therapy treatment with consists of antibiotics. My doctor also prescribed Prevacid, which seemed to help.
Avatar f tn had no real concerns only that due to my son suffering from GERDs, she saw in the xray that the bile is backing up into the stomach. This was the same thing she told me 3 years ago and prescribed Prevacid and now prescribed Nexium. There were bad news, however, when the Dr. got the results from the sonogram. She found a lesion on my son's pancreas and the liver is enlarged. Lab results also show the liver enzymes slightly higher. A CT Scan is pending (in 2 weeks!).
Avatar m tn If Prevacid helps, it most likely is related to the liquor and reflux/gerd is my guess as a non medical person ..... One can have gravel, sludge and grit w/o stones and still have a Gallbladder attack. Maybe stop all liquor for at least a month and see if anything settles down. It may be helpful for you to make a decision. Looks like a doctor was able to answer your question on our Ask an Expert Forum: http://www.medhelp.
Avatar m tn just extreme pain in my stomach when its empty... Ive been on carafate and prevacid etc.. nothing brings relief but eating or drinking milk... im miserable.... anyone have any suggestions???
Avatar f tn Had 3 ultrasounds, Hida Scan and MRI - no stones or sludge showing up and all results normal. Gastroscopy showed only mild gastritis, everything else normal. Several blood tests for liver function have been done with elevated GGT each time. Pain in right side, just off center and going under ribs to the side and also the back (between shoulder blades). Pain every day (some days mild with more pain as the day goes on, and some days a lot of pain all day).
1384238 tn?1286028762 I find some strength in the fact that my ultrasound found no major problems with liver, kidneys, pancreas and gallbladder (gallbladder a bit distended-having HIDA scan next week). I have a endo next week as well. I don't know how I will handle a cancer diagnoses, stomach cancer is quite deadly...I see no hope. I am so scared and alone. I cry all the time! I have lost 15 lbs in 3 weeks because I can't eat...I'm hungry, but just can't eat.
923401 tn?1243900156 How common are GERD-like symptoms after gallbladder surgery? My two sisters and I have had our gallbladders removed, and we all have problems with severe heartburn, burning in the esophagus, or acid reflux. I've read hundreds of posts on the gallbladder bulletin boards and found many other people who report the same problems. Many are now taking Prilosec, Prevacid, Zantac or Propulsid for relief. What causes this to happen?
Avatar m tn The pain mostly is located around gallbladder position, but sometime could be left upper Quadrant, below the rib. The pain feels like poking and only lasts few second, but it will come back in 5 minutes or 1 hour, or maybe 1 day. Become worse in daytime, after some fatty food, but NEVER had any pain during the nights. The doctor first suspected a gallbladder problem; I had a HIDA scan and reveals it is normal.
Avatar f tn Stomach acid is also a major issue with this. I have been on prevacid and after about 6weeks felt better. Now not so much. I have also had an endoscopy, hida scan and so on with no luck... Any suggestions???
Avatar n tn can someone tell my why one dr. says i'm having a gallbladder attack and last night i was told nothing is wrong!!! I can't sleep, eat or move.. The pain is so BAD!!!
Avatar m tn I actually had my gallbladder removed because after a gallbladder function test, it showed I had a low functioning gallbladder. So, the Dr. and I thought that by removing it, it would help alleviate the pain in that area, but it hasn't. I'll ask him about digestive enzymes.
Avatar n tn My doctor seems pretty sure that its just the acid reflux, and I have been taking Prevacid and Ranitadine. So far it doesn't seem to be helping much. I have heartburn less then I did, but the nausea isn't any better. I just had my son a few months ago, and the nausea was so bad with him, that I lost 30lbs throughout the pregnancy. I had to take Zofran to be able to stop vomiting. I was told it would go away after I gave birth, and it did ease off for a while.
Avatar f tn Is the surge of hormones before my period causing pxs with my gallbladder. Is there any correlation b/w the gallbladder and menstration? Before the twins a had a normal gallbladder, negative sonogram. Is there anything I can do to reduce the N/V symptoms and overall aching pain?
Avatar f tn So I was given an liquid pain med to numb my stomach temporarily and a prescription for more Prevacid and told to go see a Gastro. Which I did. He looked at the CT and Ultrasound results and diagnosed GERD along with another prescription for more Prevacid. (Mind you the Prevacid seemed to be helping that's why I was continually prescribed it.
Avatar n tn My daughter also takes pentasa and WAS taking prevacid. The prevacid didn't seem to help her and our GI switched her to prilosec. My daughter has had no complaints with the prilosec. Both prevacid and prilosec have the same actions so they do the same things. The only interaction that I know of with prevacid and penicillin is with a type of penicillin called Ampicillin and it may inhibit the absorption of the prevacid.
Avatar f tn I had my first son 5 years ago in June. 2 weeks after my c-section, I started having terrible pain in my right side that traveled to my back, I couldn't breathe through the pain and ended up in the ER once. After seeing my OB for my 6-week check-up, I described my pain and he immediately sent me for an ultrasound of my gallbladder. Sure enough, I had gallstones and was referred to a surgeon.
Avatar n tn October 5, 2007 her gallbladder was found to be functioning at only 3% and was immediately removed. 1-2 weeks after surgery she felt fine. As the weeks have gone on she has had pain in her esophogus, constant burning sensation in her stomache and nausea 3-4 times per week. Time of days doesn't matter or empty or full stomache doesn't seem to have any affect. She had an upper GI and an endoscopy. Nothing was found with these tests. They were "normal".
Avatar f tn My dd has been sick for almost a month even in the hospital with what we thought was food poisoning but now she is sick again, and they are doing everything BUT checking her gallbladder. BUT if she is not better on this prevacid in 2 weeks he is going to start checking it out. THANKS for any input.
228015 tn?1223693378 She had an upper GI and it said she has mild duodenitis, she has been put on prevacid for 2 weeks and if she is not 100 % better in 2 weeks he is going to investigate the gallbladder. What do you think ?? Should I insist on checking the gallbladder NOW or give it the 2 weeks on this med. and see what happens ? I am new to all of this and have no idea what to do .
Avatar f tn As the title said, I am a 50 year old healthy female(with normal BMR). I used to have bad heartburn years ago, but was able to treat it with change in diet and prevacid. I actually haven't taken this medication for a few years. Then about a month ago, I started getting heartburn, along with nausea and vomiting. Soon, I also had bitter taste in my mouth. I got prescription for prevacid again from my doc, and I also tried OTC meds(tums, etc), but none of them worked.
Avatar n tn If it's not gallbladder it could be SOD - sphincter of Oddi hypertension (SOH) Did they try MRCP/ERCP?
