You have to spread the Prevacid out from food altogether I believe and then split it out again or concurrent with the Synthroid by some time. I get a very dry mouth with the Prevacid. I take my Prevacid when needed @ night right before bed. I take Synthorid at 6:00AM and wait 1/2-1.0 hr before eating food. Also Mylanta .. space that out too cause the meds won't absorb WELCOME to the Thyroid Community!

What you're feeling is common if you're taking large doses of PPI's. I've had the same issue as you. Chances are what you're smelling is undigested food. Since your acid is so suppressed, you may have undigested food hanging out in your stomach. When gas is released, it carries the odor of the undigested food. I'll guarantee you if you ease back on your Prevacid you'll notice that this side effect is gone. Of course, the heartburn may then be back.

for people with digestive issues, you usually need MORE digestive juices and acids to help pre-break down food. try some digestive enzymes and maybe betaine hcl if your stomach can handle it.

I have been a vegetarian for 35 years. Recently have purposely been losing weight and not eating food with added sugar in addition to a low fat diet. (i had two different doctor check up before having all the test) and when im dont on my 14 days drinking prevacid its never been severe and not everyday pain. so i decided not to go back.. after 3 weeks i have all the pain again... especially if i eat something like coffee or tea. and i try to drink prevacid to help the pain and it work out after 30 minutes. i would like to know what the best thing to do and what are the food i should be concious of eating..

I contacted my doctor who acted like I was worrying too much and said this is normal because my food is going through me quicker then pre-previc acid. My daughter also takes pentasa and WAS taking prevacid. The prevacid didn't seem to help her and our GI switched her to prilosec. My daughter has had no complaints with the prilosec. Both prevacid and prilosec have the same actions so they do the same things. The Prevacid may not be working as good as you believe. Here's my suspicion: You may already have low acid levels, w/o taking Prevacid. The main cause of the GERD, Erosive Esophagitis or related condition is mainly LOW acid levels, which cause intra-abdominal pressure increase, pushing the lower esophageal sphincter to open and allow gastric acid to enter the esophagus.

But I followed up with my primary doctor and she told me that I should just take the Prevacid and not worry about the xrays and such. That acid reflux is "normal" and Prevacid will help it. m swinging back and forth between one OTC Prevacid in the morning and one at night one hour before dinner but it doesn't seem to be helping. Already tried Prilosec and that didn't help either. Taking Gaviscon tablets in between but they do absolutely NOTHING and I really don't know why I continue to take them. Ughhh....Anyone???

Around a year ago I was experiancing a constant ache in my stomach that seemed to follow a large or fatty meal. I went for a barium swallow and ultrasound and both were negative. I increased my prevacid to 30mg twice daily for 2 weeks or so and the problem seemed to resolve with a few minor recurrances in the last year. For the last few weeks I have occasionally been experiancing sharp pain in my mid-chest after eating (like something is ripping or twisting).

It took a good 4 months to stop the seizures all together, but the vomitting and aspirations stopped within 3 weeks of starting it. He was able to keep food down and we were actually told to put him on jarred food mixed with rice cereal to keep his reflux down. It worked and he's a very happy boy. I would discuss medications with your doctor. Maybe the medicine isn't doing anything and that is why your child can't eat whole foods.

Hi - For the past 2 years or so I have been taking low dose of Atenalol (Tenormin) daily to regulate my SVTs which I've had for years, and it has helped a lot. The problem is that it upsets my stomach (have all kinds of gastric problems) so bad that I feel like i want to die. Starts up as regular as clockwork 1 and 1/2 hours after I take it. Feels like somebody has grabbed a big handful of my 'guts' and twists and keeps doing it for hours, and I also feel puffy when I breath.

I found dense chewy food like some muffins and roasted sweet potatoes to be a problem too. Drink a lot of water. You may want to look into a low acid diet for a while. I think this and time helped me. Mine is A LOT better, but still flares up sometime and include shooting chest pains as well. For me, allergy testing showed nothing but is is possible to have food sensitivities that don't register on allergy test. You may want to see a GI doctor.

I was on Zantac for about a year, then my anti-arrhythmic meds had to be increased and I had to go back to a PPI. I will try the gaviscon and see if that helps. Do you know if it interacts with warfarin? It seems many drugs do. Stress (lots of adrenaline) brings on my af episodes, as well as caffeine, spicy food, too little sleep.

I'm pretty scared.... I don't know what to think. 44 about to be 45 year old white male I had heart disease at an early age but other than that, no health problems. About a year now I have had very bad acid reflux and at times due to the damage it was causing, I had lots of trouble swallowing. The doctor put him on prevacid and thought that acid reflex could have inflammed the entire GI tract leading to bowels to stop, creating an infection occurring in high fever. However, the symptoms have started to occur once again but with less frequency slowly happening more often. We are going to see GI specialist in 2 days but just wondering if anyone else has had similar symptoms or ideas of what to check for. Thank You!
