Common Questions and Answers about Prednisone and fertility

My insurance company covers IVF,but they only cover the oral medications, such as prednisone, prenatal meds, and antibiotics. Does any one know of any supplemental insurance companies that will covermost of the cost of injectable meds?
I pray they can figure it out so you never have to go thru that again. I am battling my immune system with steroids (Prednisone) and blood thinners (Lovenox) to try to hold on to pregnancies. Hoping those two things will be enough for me. We'll see hopefully soon!
I had a non -secreting adenoma. The surgery went well and i was on 7.5mg of prednisone and after my 1 month check -up the Endo said i need to get of the prednisone . So now i am down to 5 mg a day and i due to go for my cortisol blood work tomorrow.
Fortunately, I have a healthy 3-year old. I went to a fertility specialist and I told him I wanted to try to get pregnant on my own before trying IVF. Luckily, I am 4 weeks pregnant. He has prescribed prometrium and prednisone. I am concerned about the side effects.
In children who do not make cortisone effectively, we provide it to them all of their life with the expectation that they will have normal development and normal fertility. In the absence of any confirming data, assume that 30 years ago there were concerns that did not prove to be true. during the summer i was put on prednisone and cortisol for a bout with pneumonia. ever since i have been having problems with my test. levels dropping dramatically and it is now at 122. i feel awful and im starting to have pain in my testicles. my doc put me on adrogel for a month, i don't know why and it made my levels drop even more. now i have to wait another two months before i can see an urologist. im thinkin bout taking HCG and Clomid and i was wondering what my dosages should be?
If you did, is it better to keep trying on your own or do fertility treatment such as IVF. My first one failed, and now I don't know what to do. Any ideas?
Last monday I have ET done,My fertility docotr put me on prednisone ,baby aspirin ,prometrium and supposotries and Iam waiting for 7 days.I am right now so scared that it will happen to me again.Has anyone had this experienced. Please help.
40), and I have, sometimes, erythema, so i take also prednisone. I'm sure that I find causes of my miscarriages, but I'm searching for studies or news/statistics about my situation, specially about mthfr homo A1298C, because there are many confusion ...So I ask: Is my condition actually miscarriage's cause? There are riscks for my health when I will be pregnant again? Thank you.
i have antithyroid antibodies - mine are not too high (they were in the 100s but since being on synthroid and cutting out gluten etc, they have gotten much lower and one of them is in the normal range now) Anyway - I just did IVF (after almost 2 years of trying to conceive a 2nd child) and was put on prednisone about 2 weeks prior to transfer and I am currently 7 weeks pregnant. I'm still on the prednisone (dr wants me on until 12 weeks).
Do any of you have or have knowledge of how thryoid and ANA antibodies can affect fertility? I have one son who is almost 2 1/2 years old (got pregnant 3 mos after trying with him and had an uneventful/normal pregnancy). When my son turned 1, we decided we wanted to get pregnant again since i was almost 37 years old. 1 year and 1/2 later, I'm still not pregnant. My obgyn couldn't figure it out and decided we do laproscopic surgery.
I had given up on IUI's plus I was told by a GYN that I should give up totally on fertility treatments because I have 1 blocked tube, fibroids and I am 40. Well good thing I never gave up and to top it off the IUI worked not even IVF. I am a believer in God and science working together. My advise to you. Don't give up I am living proof of having faith.
Hi! I'm sorry to hear that someone so young is contending with so many medical problems. I am not aware of any CLEAR data that suggests that RA reduces fertility. Certainly hypothyroidism can, but it sounds as though your doctors have that under control. I think that unexplained infertility is the most difficult type of infertility to deal with, both for doctors and patients because there is "no reason" why you should have problems.
My husband and I went to see fertility specialist 4years ago- (it took 3years to convince my hubby to see the doctor) we found out that I was ok, but my husband had a condition called "Varicocele" DEF: Varicocele is an abnormal enlargement of the [vein] that is in the scrotum draining the testicles. This condition caused his scrotum to be consistently over heated- it kills, deforms or drastically slows down 95% of his sperm.
I've been taking 500mg metformin myself and I have not experienced any weight loss. I am actually taking it for diabetes treatment. But it has not helped with my weight loss.
Now, I'd like to think it was because of my European heritage but it seems to have begun around the time I started taking medication for fertility. Not sure if they are related, but I can't even laser because I'm trying to get pregnant...and I'd need to go every 3-4 weeks for a couple of months. It's not even a few, it's a good amount. It's bad enough with the mood swings, weight gain and irritability but now I have become a Billy goat.
Also, I did have fertility issues for 2 years, did IUI, Injectables and many rounds of clomid with no such luck. This pregnancy was a complete accident....Just thought I would share my story to give you some hope of conceieving with Hashimoto's and carrying to term.
Years passed and I decided to get checked again because I've gained 30 lbs over two years (due to taking prednisone for the hives I got daily because of Hashimoto's) and the male pattern hair growth increased. I'm now 5'6" and 167lbs. I sought the help of an endocrinologist and he ordered a lot of blood tests. I never had problems with elevated glucose and the test showed that my fasting glucose was 102, slightly elevated.
Went to the doctor and was given Diflucan and prednisone 20mg taper for 3 days. Finished on a Thursday and the following Monday broke out in a hideous raised rash to my face, ears and eyes. Hard to tell if same "rash" was to my groin area as to that area always being swollen and reddened. Again went to doctor and now am on antiviral (temiflu), antibiotic (spectracef) and medrol.
I was on prednisone and lovenox to prevent blood clots and immun issues which I think got me the furthest I've made it in pregnancy. I'm sure he will do it again if he thinks there is a reason to try again.
I am on a daily 10mg dose of Prednisone and have been for a few years. My questions are....what kind of menstual problems can occur because of the prednison...does it impact fertility at all........how safe is it to take during pregnancy and can you breastfeed while taking it. I am hoping to conceive again and have stopped all other meds...I was also taking methotrexate and celebrex for my condition but I absolutely can not function without the prednisone.
For the last 6 months I have been getting tearing (look like paper cuts) in my vaginal area (1/4 to 1/2 inch long). I get the tears at least once or twice a week and they last from 2-4 days, go away for a few days and then come back. They continue to occur in the same locations; 1. Inside the vaginal lips on the sides almost always in the crease (between the labia minora and majora?) 2. Between the anus and vaginal opening (perineum) 3. Above the clitoris in the "hood" area.
Well period is late by now 5 days, sore tatas, achy in general and I took a cheap HPT yesterday and it was neg and I assumed I have a big ovarian cyst, which can mimic pregnancy and I called my gyn to ask for an appt. They wanted to draw blood first and they ccalled me today-HCG is 129 and they want to check it again tomorrow along with my progesterone. I also got a BFP on a HPT today (CD33) I am thinking, I may have ovulated late. I am hoping this is not another chemical.
I went to my general doc and he said I had eustachian tube dysfunction which he treated me with decongestants and nose sprays and also prednisone and nothing worked. the prednisone made it alittle better but came right back after finished. So then he decided to send me to an ent and that I would probably need tubes in my ears. Well I went to the ent and he said I have a venous hum.
I'm now seeing a Fertility Specialist who is putting me on extra Folic Acid (Folgard) and after my lab results come back, he could possibly put me on Baby Aspirin with the Folgard, Progesterone, Lovenox, meds to regulate insulin (mine could be too high resulting in low blood sugar), and Prednisone. Again the tests will rule out anything else that is off balance. Maybe there is something you haven't tried yet that is the missing piece of the puzzle?
My husband and I are married for 17 years (only marraige for both) and our daughter is a fertility baby (with our egg/sperm). My daughter has always been a vibrant, vivacious, extremely intellegent girl. Always scoring at the top of her class, always successful in anything she does. She was pretty good in 7th grade when we had successfully changed her diet - we thought then we had solved the puzzle!
Sometimes follow research without fully understanding what we are reading and how a combination of meds can affect you. Take care and good luck!
) I am happy with the two kids that i have but i have a whole in my heart for all the loses that we have experienced I am currently waiting to save money to go se the doc and start fertility treatments (probably clomid) i have a problem with not Ovulating and low progesterone it took us 18 months and clomid to concieve our son so i have a feeling it will be a while before we have another. Oh we have been trying this time since Dec of 06.
But this thing has had me out of work since before thanksgiving. I love my job and it's great $$. My boss loves me....and would love to get me back out there. But not until I can assure hime that I won't have some wild panic attack and have to be driven 40 miles, off the mountain, to the ER again. One thing I could not fail to notice is that I am fine.....all morning long. Until I take my first pain meds. then it starts. Don't know if the meds alter my breathing or if it's all in my head.
