t get walking pneumonia unless you are run down from the flu or something else. But since others have it you might have contracted it from them. Try to say away from the flu if you can. None of us are immune even with the vaccine. It has mutated from the strain in the vaccine. So I'm not going to buffets and I'm using those hand sanitizers and wiping down doors knobs etc.

Ok, i'm going to ask one question before I go to bed. Last summer it all started really BAD,, with the numbness and tingling in my legs,,, this has NOT stopped I mean at times its better then others but mainly I always have it.

My TSH is 0.01 (hyperthyroid) T4 1.44 (normal range) but all my symtoms are hypo - major weight gain, constipation, heavy periods (had a hystrocomy last yr @ 35 yrs old) low energy, muscle/joint pain, basisclly I feel like I'm coming down with the flu every 3-4 days and it takes a couple days to feel better. Does anyone have any advise????

If pneumonia, is this a new pneumonia, a pneumonia condition caused by the flu virus itself, or standard pneumonia(s)? If a standard pneumonia, will a pneumonia shot five years ago give any protection, and/or would one now give any protection? Also, will Tamiflu from 2004 still work?

I just heard about the recent death in Washington where the individual had a heart condition, pneumonia and swine flu. I was recently diagnosed with CHF in January, so all this is still very new to me.

I have been diagnosed with the flu type b on Monday. My fevere goes up and down but really doesn't stay down permanently. I am taking tamiflu, theraflu, Motrin as prescribed by the doctors. My throat feels ripped open and today I noticed that there is some blood in the phlegm that I cough up. Is this a sign of pneumonia?

Hi, You sound just miserable. I agree with Sara. You have more than the flu. The flu (influenza) itself only lasts 10 to 14 days, but you may have developed a pneumonia on top of it. OR it was the flu but was another infection which likely has a severe bronchitis or pneumonia with it - like walking pneumonia. After a month of bringing up phlegm, you need to see a doctor and probably have a chest X-ray. Please be evaluated! You are on an MS Forum. Do you have MS also?

I have gotten Pneumonia 3 years in a row. I got the flu and Pneumonia shot this year and still got iPneumonia. What is going on with me. My doctor keeps giving me steroids that are blowing me up and not stopping me from catching this illness. Please help. Thank you.

I've read that the H1N1 (Swine Flu) virus causes a lot of body aches and pains, but if it's only in your chest, I'd be willing to bet it's pneumonia. Pneumonia always hurts deep inside.

i agree with both of you and i plan on taking him in monday to his ped. since he has been sent home from the ER with rsv, flu, and was also sent home with meds he shouldn't have been taking....our ER doesn't know what they are doing so i am kinda in a spot when he gets sick..there is another docs office that has late hours so i could take him there but they dont know his history so i dont know hwat they could do for him....

I never bother with the flu shots, but I did get the one for pneumonia. It's a one-timer. As for swine flu, what you don't hear in the news (because it doesn't sell ads) is that swine flue is less deadly than the usual flu, which isn't particularly deadly anyway. Reliable information on swine flu is available from the Centers for Disease Control. They offer a weekly bulletin. It will confirm what I say here.

i have had flu like symptoms along with a very nasty cough for just over 4 weeks now, the doc prescribed amoxicillin 500mg, 7 day treatment which had no affect, I'm now experiencing chronic pain under my right lower rib cage, could you help?

I would have the flu vaccine and within a week, flu symptoms which then went to my chest and then Pneumonia,,,the final year I had the pneumovax vaccine and ended up in hospital. I didnt get the flu while pregnant but with my third pregnancy I did get pneumonia for the first time and yes I did feel like I was dying. she didn't say dr said it caused pneumonia, she said if she didn't get the shot and she ended up with pneumonia her baby could have mental issues or downs. but i say do what you want my dr gave me the option but couldn't get it while sick last time so i'll be getting mine on tuesday bc i did get sick with the flu when i was pregnant with my daughter and it was pretty rough that's for sure.

I had the flu (a long with my husband and children) we were all really sick for about 5 days. Everyone got over it except for me. I don't feel like it is the flu now though. I have a horrible cough. So 5 days ago I went to the Urgent Care and Dr said probably pneumonia. She gave me antibiotics, prednisone, and albuterol. It has been 5 days. The fevers are just higher. They dont even get better with ibuprofen. I can't function. I have small kids. I feel to sick to drive to the doctor.

People that had the flu were showing up negative on the test but then developing pneumonia that goes hand in hand with H1N1. After my children recovered within 2-3 days..I thought, it must not have been H1N1. They were fine...no problem. Then it happened..ME the mom that never gets sick, started to feel not so good by Sun. I shrugged it off as being tired and allergies. Then the fever kick in. I started with a 101.6. I would take 2 tylenol. Within 2 hours my fever was up to 102.7.

If your immune system fought it off, I would say that your baby is okay. Since you're sharing your blood and immune system with the baby right now, s/he shouldn't have any effects from pneumonia.

Did you get walking pneumonia after a flu or a cold? Or did you just start getting the lung issue by itself? Usually "walking pneumonia" is a dry cough with sometimes stabbing pain in the side. You usually feel okay other wise but the pain is bad . Or you can just have the hacking cough secondary usually to a flu or cold.

Yes, I highly recommend it along with hep A&B shots if you haven`t gotten them yet. I also got a pneumonia shot . The tx will give you flu-like symptoms, so go ahead & get your shots. I do not typically get Flu shots, but decided that since flu like symptoms were a side effect of tx, I wanted the extra protection to know that I didn't really have the flu. Got the shot in August and started tx in September.

Secondary infections after the flu are common (bronchitis, sinusitis, pneumonia). Sepsis is more rare but serious. Keep her hydrated and an eye on her and check in with her doctor. I wouldn't overly worry at this point. Let us know how she is doing!

Fever is actually a positive thing. It's how our body fights infection/virus. The idea is to make someone comfortable but still know that the fever is serving a purpose. My son recently had a sustained fever of 104 to 105 with the flu. I was a little freaked out but the three doctors I talked to that week (one on phone, one we saw when he tested positive for flu and the one I talked to on the phone about my other son who then got sick and needed Tamiflu) all said the exact same thing.
