Common Questions and Answers about Walking pneumonia symptoms in kids

pneumonia

Avatar f tn Well, my husband had the same symptoms as well, but when he woke up today, it was harder for him to breathe so he went to the hospital and found out he had walking pneumonia but was given nothing to treat it because they said he has to get over it himself. Now I'm worried that it might also be what I have, but they found out by X-ray, and I know I shouldn't get an X-ray while 20 weeks preganant. And even if that was it, would they even treat me for it?
1100598 tn?1413127426 Ever since then, I have had chest pain, shortness of breath, fainting spells, weakness, back pain, a worseneing cough, low grade fever, chills, rash on my belly or chest, and nausea. The swollen lymph nodes have also returned. My doctor says I have bronchitis/walking pneumonia and put me on doxycycline on tuesday, but I am not feeling any better. I only have one day of antibiotics left.
Avatar f tn Yes “walking pneumonia” is contagious. The development of more symptoms, in the face of antibiotic therapy, is worrisome as is the “side pain” which I assume to be pleurisy and suggests that this infection may fall into the category of complicated pneumonia. In this circumstance you should definitely request careful reevaluation by your doctor or his designate to include at a minimum a repeat chest X-ray, a complete blood count and culture of your sputum.
1609219 tn?1298104935 I am in the same situation. I am 27 and have had pneumonia 4 times since October 2010. I moved in the beginning of January and hadn't had any symptoms of pneumonia so I thought maybe it was mold in my previous home causing it. But now I have it again. I am on antibiotics cough meds and inhalers. I've had xrays taken after the antibiotics and they always look good. I'm not as healthy as you by any means but have figured out what's causing it?
Avatar m tn My 4 yr. old son was diagnosed with walking pneumonia after getting hives on his face 2 days in a row. At first we thought it was an allergy we couldn't put our finger on because he has an allergy to dairy and sesame. But he hadn't come in contact with either one. Once our pediatrician examined him she said the hives were from walking pneumonia. He is on the third day of antibiotics but hives are still appearing on his face. They go away within the hour without any treatment.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with bacterial pneumonia in the right lower lobe about four weeks ago. I had antibiotic treatment and an inhaler for ten days. I had another chest x-ray after the antibiotic treatment and my doctor said that my lung was looking much improved. The coughing has ended, but I still have not returned to my normal energy level. Also, when I wake in the morning, I usually have a feeling of discomfort in the right upper quadrant of my body.....just a vague aching.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with walking pneumonia two weeks ago. I was given Z Pack. I took it. It seemed to work for a couple of days then the symptoms returned. Doctor gave me another Z Pack. Same thing. It worked for a couple of days and then the mychoplasma returned. Question 1: Why did Z pack not get rid of it? Question 2: I'm on Doxycycline now. Will that get rid of it? I'm terrified to even get out of bed for fear that I will relapse again. I want my life back. Please help.
Avatar f tn Hi and sorry you have been ill. We are not doctors on here but I am a microbiologist and can give you some advice. There have been a lot of viruses out this year. Some really bad ones. Did you get walking pneumonia after a flu or a cold? Or did you just start getting the lung issue by itself? Usually "walking pneumonia" is a dry cough with sometimes stabbing pain in the side. You usually feel okay other wise but the pain is bad .
Avatar f tn But it is usually a result of some other kinda bug thats not treated resulting in that it causes fluid on the lungs, which takes a while to turn into pneumonia. If you arnt having symptoms of the original chest cold, or flu your fine.
Avatar f tn I had walking pneumonia four months ago. Now I have it again. I don't know why I have it again. Last time I had it I threw all of my cosmetics, tooth brushes, toiletries away because I was afraid I was re-infecting myself. I bought all new make up when I got better, should I throw it all away again to avoid reinfection?
Avatar f tn I had texted with my physician and after being sick for 11 days, he had put me on mild Antibiotics Azithromycin 250mg for 5 days (first day 500mg) saying I probably have walking pneumonia. I had Mycoplasma walking pneumonia 2x before in 2009 already. It slowly improved after taking it and I'm better, but still not healthy and feel it is getting worse again. Every inbreath I feel a cold tickling in the mid chest area and feel I need to suppress a dry cough.
Avatar f tn In December of 2010, i developed walking pneumonia. Ever since that, its went downhill bad. Seems like I get sick every month with a fever and it stays for a month! I'll be better for a month, then it comes back! Most of the time its just a low grade fever with not many symptoms rather than chills and fatigue which is associated with a fever anyways. It is very tiring and takes alot out of me!of when i researched, first thing popped up was HIV or autoimmune.
Avatar m tn sounds like a bad chest or lung infection.. if you had pneumonia?? you would have high fever also and would be a very sick person.. its very dangerous.. GO to doctors either way for an antibiotic..
Avatar f tn BTW......... my normal temp in 97.7 to 97.9°. My blood work was perfect. Doc does CBC w/diff and chems every visit. I go 8 years without a cold. DID have the flu two years ago when I skipped the flu shot. My mother is 82 and her temp is same as mine. When I was so sick with the flu, it was 99.9°. The inhaler seems to be making me cough but nothing like my husband! Oh...... and there seems to be an outbreak of walking pneumonia in our area.
242516 tn?1368223905 The flu has passed epidemic rates in much of the country, and if you don't have a cold, I'm sure you have a friend who has the sniffles, fever, chills, aches and pains of a viral upper respiratory infection. This is different from a bacterial infection such as sinusitis, bronchitis, or pneumonia. A viral infection doesn't improve with antibiotics as these infections do. A virus hijacks your own body's healthy cells and uses it to reproduce and spread.
Avatar f tn That's been going around, my husband has a sinus infection and mild walking pneumonia. he's on antibiotics now, and cough syrup with codeine. And my friend has it as well. And my uncle just got over it. I'm sure you and the baby will be fine. Best of luck. Get well soon.
Avatar m tn So about a week and a half ago I was diagnosed with bronchitis/ walking pneumonia. He said that it was bronchitis but then he found a specific spot and said it was pneumonia in its beginning stages. He gave me the blue inhaler, azithromycin (I'm allergic to penicillin), and told me to take tylenol four times a day. My symptoms leading up to this were dry cough, wheezing, and coughing fits so violent it set off my gag reflex and it has hard to breath.
Avatar m tn I have grown a culture from my sputum .it is a white fluffy fungus that looks like polyester fiber fill in a pillow.
Avatar n tn Sometimes if a cold sets into the chest, you can feel the symptoms in your back. Also, Walking Pneumonia can give you these symptoms. They call it walking because you really don't feel like you have Pneumonia...slight fever, congestion ect...and you're able to carry out your daily activities. Make that appt. asap and remember, don't panic...you're going to be alright.
Avatar f tn Hello :) I just got diagnosed with walking pneumonia in my right lung (he said it’s pretty significant) but I don’t have any symptoms except an off and on low grade fever and I’m a little extra exhausted. No cough or anything. Is that normal???? Is there anything I should be watching out for to know if it gets worse? I started a z pack and he said call me Monday if you don’t feel better because he’d want blood work and x rays. But I hardly feel bad to know if I’m feeling better.
Avatar n tn What I want to know is should I be confident in a negative test result at 3 months? Is contracting walking pneumonia common in very early HIV infections normal, and is the fact that I did contract it during the window period increase my chances of actually having the infection? Is my doctor correct in his logic that my blood work should detect the HIV (or antiobodies) if HIV was the cause of my pneumonia?
Avatar f tn For example, the bacteria that causes pneumonia called streptococcus pneumonia is a normal bacteria residing in all our throats. Since we all don't get pneumonia from it, the determining factor is not the virulence of the bacteria. The bacteria multiplies without restraint only when our immune systems become compromised.
Avatar f tn 24 hours after finishing my 10 days of Doxy, my sore throat started to come back as well as that general crummy feeling that walking pneumonia gives you. So, I went to the Dr. to see if the pneumonia was gone. He said he could not test me because I would test positive for WP for the next 6 months. He told me he thought I just had allergies (yeah right) but he gave me 7 more days of Doxy. I have been resting more than I have ever rested before.
