Pneumonia diagnosis asthma

Common Questions and Answers about Pneumonia diagnosis asthma

pneumonia

Avatar n tn , are not typical of asthma. These symptoms are much more suggestive of incompletely resolved pneumonia. A lung infection can trigger asthma but the symptoms of asthma are never limited to one lung, and failure of pneumonia to resolve always warrants further investigation. You should have another follow-up x-ray, now. The prescription of Symbicort® (budesonide/formoterol fumarate dehydrate) Inhalation Aerosol does not mean you have asthma.
Avatar f tn I does sound like asthma is a possibility. A chest x-ray is useless in diagnosing asthma. It can show trapped air that may be indicative of asthma, but other conditions result in trapped air as well. Feel better and God bless.
1205142 tn?1265689562 The specialist can test for any underlying conditions that may be aggravating his asthma. Also he can then get the right asthma treatment in order to control his asthma symptoms.
Avatar n tn Such results are more consistent with the diagnosis of asthma. Interesting that you would have had pneumonia as there is an increased risk of pneumonia for persons using an inhaled steroid. Despite that alleged risk, the benefit of these drugs far outweighs the risk of pneumonia in the majority of persons.
Avatar f tn My Son Is 5 Yrs Of Age Hes Been Hospitalized 8 Times Due To Asthma And Pneumonia. A Week Ago The Doctors Discovered A Blurry Spot In His Right Lung And Their Not Sure Exactly What It Is. Im Really Scared And Would Like Direct Answers On Which This Could Be.
Avatar f tn See a doctor. There are many causes for dificulty breathing 0 pneumonia, asthma, bronchitis, COPD, heart problems... The treatment would depend on the diagnosis. Only a doctor can accurately diagnose you.
Avatar n tn Bacterial or viral lung infection can precipitate asthma with wheezing in a person genetically predisposed to asthma. Treatment of the presumed asthma, aside from treatment of the infectious pneumonia, is appropriate. So, this could be asthma, superimposed on pneumonia. Your son could have whooping cough, despite immunization against it. If his fever and sweating with clammy skin has subsided, it is probably a sign that the antibiotic therapy has been effective and the pneumonia is clearing.
Avatar f tn One might suspect that you have underlying asthma and that when you get a viral infection each year, it triggers pneumonia –like symptoms. I would suggest getting a pulmonary function test while you are sick to see if this is, indeed, asthma. If this is not the case, another possible reason is that the local immune system in your lungs is not protecting you from the infection. This is usually an antibody problem and can be checked with a blood test.
Avatar f tn You definately have Asthma and first, pneumonia takes time to heal. With pneumonia and after treatment, in order to feel better, you will feel worse, because it is a serious, potentially life threatening infection in your lung or worse, both lungs. You will be coughing and spiting out infected phlem or mucus. Your breathing will improve over time, so make sure to take your medication, prednisone is the best when taken properly and under a physicians care.
Avatar n tn After a week and a half I saw the doctor, was diagnosed with both sinusitis and bronchitis and it appeared my asthma was in control, this was a Friday. (I have had asthma my entire life and at the first signs of a sniffle and some tightness I immediately start a prednisone taper and Xopenex nebulizer). I was prescribed azithromycin and told to continue with my xopenex and prednisone. I also took cough syrup, sudafed and motrin.
Avatar n tn When I was 12, I started having trouble breathing after, and sometimes during exercise. I had pneumonia when I was 6 and was misdiagnosed as having asthma. I used an inhaler for quite a long time. Is this somehow connected to my breathing problems? I don't think its stress, because I'm not stressed at all. Or at least, I don't feel stressed. I haven't gone to see a doctor yet. Should I see a doctor about this?
Avatar f tn Yes you are right to question his diagnosis. Especially in someone so young. This is not typical asthma, if it is then he has very severe asthma that is difficult to control. However, I would certainly enquire about a lung condition called cystic fibrosis. It is easy to test for, by measuring the salt content on his skin due to sweat. Go to a good pulmonary specialist and ask for this test. It is non-invasive and easy to do. Plus it would rule in or out this serious condition.
Avatar n tn Complications of pneumonia include pleural effusion, empyema, abscess, bacteremia, and/or sepsis. Pneumonia may leave residual atelectasis, scarring, pneumatocele, and/or cavity. Pneumonia can exacerbate chronic conditions such as emphysema, asthma, or congestive heart failure.
Avatar n tn I might have worded that funny about "asthma can lead to pneumonia but not the other way around". Pneumonia can also antagonize asthma if the person already has asthma, but pneumonia doesn't actually cause asthma.
Avatar m tn I’ve been sick for 3 months now. 27 y/o female, non-smoker, no history of asthma. It started in December as shortness of breath and a bad cough (with clear/yellow discharge). I originally went to an ambulatory care doctor. After hearing my symptoms, he decided that I had the virus that causes Walking Pneumonia and gave me some medicine. A week later, I was getting worse. I was having very labored breathing (with tightness in my chest).
Avatar m tn She is 54 years old and never been a smoker. She has had problems with sinus infections, colds, asthma and pneumonia. She has recurrent pneumonia and gets it about every 3 months or so. She always ends up in the ER with problems breathing and then goes on a round of antibiotics, usually zpak and prednisone steroids. She will sometimes get a steriod inhaler to use along with her normal ventolin inhaler.
Avatar m tn Looking for the same answer...my 3 1/2 year old son has just had his third diagnosis of traces of pneumonia that required a shot in each leg followed by oral antibiotics. Don't know why he is susceptible to this and wondering if his room has mold or something. He does have peanuts allergy; haven't had him tested yet for asthma susceptibility, which we've heard is possible when there are allergies.
1114793 tn?1258730647 Given the importance, to you and your husband (health and insurance), of establishing the correct diagnosis the best advice I can give you is to request consultation with a recognized expert in the diagnosis of asthma and COPD, preferably with a specialist at a Medical Center with a national reputation; one who has conducted research and treated individuals with both diseases.
1468105 tn?1287151463 The findings you describe are consistent with the diagnosis of pulmonary Histoplasmosis and, yes, the pneumonia your daughter had a year ago may have been a Histoplasma infection. In that case the current CT scan findings could be the residual of that pneumonia. Histoplasmosis is endemic in the entire Ohio river valley and beyond, in the Midwest. The diagnosis can be either strongly suggested or confirmed by serologic testing.
Avatar f tn My nine-year-old granddaughter has been diagnosed with steroid-resistant asthma with multiple allergies, but we are told hers is a non-allergic asthma. She was recently also diagnosed with sarcoidosis. Her asthma is complicated by URI's that require hospitalizations every 4-6 weeks for IV steroid infusions, antibiotics, and RT. Last week she was in the PICU for pneumonia and a pneumothorax plus all the rest. She is managing to stay in school and active in sports in spite of her condition.
454286 tn?1205883067 Still coughing all these months, new pediatrician was diagnosed with Asthma in December. His asthma is also exercise induced. Same peds office new doctor but was really ill...lots of phlegm etc, she gave him a Zpak + nebulizer with Albuterol solution. We did that nothing changed.
Avatar n tn I have asthma and 4 years ago I had pneumonia year after year. Than I started getting the pneumonia vaccine. I had no side effects from it expect no pneumonia.
Avatar f tn Does anyone please have any experience with anything similar to this? I do have asthma, anxiety, and gerd. But no medicine for those has been helpful and my symptoms seem extreme for those diagnosis as well. I also changed my diet for gerd guidelines and avoid all asthma triggers. 1402543 tn?1280893106 He was a healthy normal child untill he developed asthma..which was first diagnosed as pneumonia and three days later was told he had asthma. Even with the medicine he is still constantly sick.
Avatar f tn A lot of patients will be put on inhalers to get them over bronchitis or pneumonia more quickly even if they don't have asthma. Another thought would be illness induced asthma - asthma only with respiratory illnesses or allergies. Some doctors really try to avoid the asthma diagnosis as it can make it hard to get insurance in the US. I pray that the use of the albuterol more helps you feel better more quickly. My regimen calls for use around the clock, but that is REALLY anoying.
Avatar f tn We live in Bulgaria and I am having a hard time getting proper treatment for my daughter. She is a year and 7 months old and last month we spent 16 days in 2 hospitals diagnosed with "Bronhit Pneumonia" which I can only translate as Bronchitis and Pneumonia. In the hospitals they changed antibiotics 5 times and did 5 xrays. After 2 weeks she has started coughing and wheezing after running and playing. This has occurred 4 times both indoors and outside.
Avatar f tn I'm trying to understand what is wrong with my sister...she has Asthma also Empysemia. She hasn't been well for a couple of weeks & her Dr daid she had a chest infection. Last week she was rushed into hospital, she could hardly breathe, put her on oxygen etc but it didn't help much. Had an xray, they said she didnt have a chest infection. Then a CT Scan, they said she did have infection.
