888988 tn?1241304941 (I actually did this cxr so I saw myself what looked like he still had pneumonia). The cxr showed he still had pneumonia and also a small pleural effusion and CT was recommended. Holy cow...the ct showed three lung masses in the RLL---the largest is almost 7CM....and 4 enlarged lymph nodes in the right hilar region. Naturally this is highly suspicious for metastatic malignancy, but...how in the world do you not see a 6CM mass on a cxr? I get if it was aroung 6mm...but 6 CM?
Avatar n tn Old scarring is non-specific. From a thyroid cancer standpoint, a non-contrasted chest CT could be performed to correlate the findings on CXR - the comment of "looks like scar" is not precise enough. But this needs to be taken into context of your thyroid cancer risk -- ie, thyroglobulin levels and neck ultrasound primarily. PET and I-123 are sometimes helpful as well.
1468105 tn?1287151463 The findings you describe are consistent with the diagnosis of pulmonary Histoplasmosis and, yes, the pneumonia your daughter had a year ago may have been a Histoplasma infection. In that case the current CT scan findings could be the residual of that pneumonia. Histoplasmosis is endemic in the entire Ohio river valley and beyond, in the Midwest. The diagnosis can be either strongly suggested or confirmed by serologic testing.
Avatar f tn Here we are seven years later, no sign of reoccurence until approx 3 weeks ago, some chest pain and slight shortness of breath. CXR/CT initially showed pneumonia/possible collapsed lung. 2nd review, pleural effusion. Mammogram this week (routine) showed small "spot" u/s and biopsy done. meeting with surgeon next week. It is likely the pleural effusion is malignant due to prior breast Ca and new "spot"? I know prognosis if malignant pleural effusion is not good.
Avatar f tn I have had a TT after my diagnosis of papillary thyroid cancer. I also have mets to the bone and lungs. I am going in for my first follow-up with my endocrinologist. What tests should I expect to have to monitor my condition going forward?
Avatar m tn Also, i had visited a med express last week for my bronchitiis and they also took an x-ray. The doctor there didnt see anything like pneumonia or other abnormality but said if their radiologist saw anything else they would call back (which they did not). That fact makes this even a little more baffling. I do have some crackling (intermittent, not always) in the lungs, but NOT short of breath even while currently having bronchitis with mountains of phlegm and mucus production.
Avatar n tn diagnosed with sarcoid in the 70's. CXR have always shown bilateral hilar adenopathy. Six weeks ago had upper respiratory infection and have had a residual cough. Had CT of chest with contrast followin CXR that was suspicious for stage II sarcoid. Lyng parenchyma- abnormal interstitial densities in the central upper lobes, perivascular with ill-defined multiple nodules in upper lobes.
Avatar m tn Resp therapist nor SCU nurse were impressed by this and enjoyed many chuckles at my expense. Was I wrong? What could have been done for her? Oh sorry, forgot to say CXR earlier that day showed developing infiltrates on right and elevated right hemidiaphram.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your reply julieben..... In re-reading my post, I guess I didn't make it clear as to WHY i had all those CT's and MRI's ( which left that wide open.) I have cancer and had surgery 2 years ago. Ended up with strange symptoms in my head and weakness so ended up with brain MRI's. Most CT's were done pre-post surgery for the tumor removal surgery. etc. But none were done related to the most recent CXR to screen for TB.
Avatar m tn i have been coughing since August 2008 till date, have done so many CXR, blood test, sputum test, mantoux, HIV test and nothing was discovered. Recently, i did another CXR and Sputum test and was told again it wasn't TB. I was told to have a report on my CXR which says i should go for a CT Scan because the CXR report shows am having an infection in my right upper lobe opacity which have not done.
Avatar n tn A CXR can be done as often as need be. Patients in the hospital can have a CXR done several times daily if they need it. An EKG is the same, it can be done as often as symtptoms start up. An echocardiogram repeat is up to the Cardiologist and yes it would depend on your clinical presentation and symptoms. Hope this helped. Midijane.
Avatar n tn Hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid), alcohol use, pulmonary embolism (a blood clot in the lungs), pneumonia _______________________________________________ But most commonly, atrial fibrillation occurs as a result of some other cardiac condition (secondary atrial fibrillation). Heart valve disease: This can be something you are born with or be caused by infection or degeneration/calcification of valves with age. Enlargement of the left ventricle walls (left ventricular hypertrophy).
Avatar n tn After small nodules showed up on a CXR, my mother had a CT scan performed. The Impression lists: Multiple pulmonary nodules seen in both hemithoraces concerning for metastatic disease to the chest and lungs but also gives a Differential diagnosis that states consideration could include an atypical bacterial infection with septic emboli. I have some medical knowledge, but am unsure what may come next for her i.e lung biopsy, etc...
Avatar f tn Hi, I recently had a cxr & dr called me back in as it showed bilateral upper hyperinflation and multiple bullae most likely due to asthma, as well as old pulmonary fibrosis, fissure and diffuse interstitial thickening. Radiologist on report recommended pulmonary function tests and HRCT. I am a 35 yr old female who has been smoking on and off since age 12. Currently on Champix and trying to quit again. Chronic chest and sinus infections prob. due to smoking.
Avatar n tn Direct clinical examination and diagnostic tests like ECG, CXR and blood tests can be done to determine the underlying cause. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn I have all the symptoms of pneumonia. The xray came back as either pneumonia or lung cancer. Small mass found on lower left lung. Treating me for pneumonia. I will have repeat xray possible cat scan. Asking in advance. How often is this found? Can pneumonia look like lung cancer? Day two of medication and I do feel better and fever broke. I still have pains from my cough and still expereince the sweaty, hot and cold bouts but feel better despite general aches and pains.
Avatar f tn Male non smoker, recently admitted for paroxysmal AF, CXR shown 'lateral Midzone opacicifation' and further resolution xray needed in 6-8 weeks, would could this possibly mean?
Avatar f tn I also said that I did not understand why we could not wait a week or two and take another Xray to see if there were changes...to see if the spot was the pneumonia. He quickly said that pneumonia takes a good 6 weeks to clear from your lungs and I should get another lung picture in 6 weeks. He did not seemed concerned at all about cancer. Or at least he did not say he was. The final doctor I saw was the regular MD who released me from the hospital.
Avatar f tn Visited a pulmonologist about a month ago for the prior complaints with my CXR done. The pulmonologist suspected obstructive diseases and suggested spirometry and IgE levels. The results came out today and are as followed: pre-FVC is 2.71, pre-FEV1 is 2.67, post-FVC is 2.71, post-FEV1 is 2.64. IgE is 341 IU/ml. Kindly elaborate what these findings suggest. TIA.
Avatar m tn I had chest pain for about a week once two years and I went to the ER and had a cardio workup with CXR, ekg, and blood which were all negative. I have been to the doctor twice this month and both times I was told it wasn't cardiac but both doctors I saw were unsure of the cause. I did get a new CXR this past week but it was negative. Both times I went I had normal vitals and I haven't had a fever.
Avatar n tn Such results are more consistent with the diagnosis of asthma. Interesting that you would have had pneumonia as there is an increased risk of pneumonia for persons using an inhaled steroid. Despite that alleged risk, the benefit of these drugs far outweighs the risk of pneumonia in the majority of persons.
Avatar n tn I am a 29 year old female, never smoked, healthy weight and beside breathing and anxiety issues healthy.
Avatar f tn Anyway I saw the consultant at exactly 3 weeks after the pneumonia diagnosis and 3 different antibiotics (clarithromycin, co-amoxyclav and another one beginning with T - can't remember!) anyway I had an X-ray and the consultant has said there is an abnormality on my lung and I have a CT scan booked tomorrow and follow up with the consultant on Tuesday. So now I am really anxious and getting worried that I have lung cancer or something.
994239 tn?1321203620 Hello, Cough and/or coughing up phlegm are symptoms you may not necessarily have. The definitive diagnosis of pneumonia is based on chest xray with combination of symptoms. So, your situation is possible. I remember I had pneumonia as a child with the only symptom of vomiting. My mother took me to the hospital and a diagnosis of pneumonia was made based on my chest xray.
Avatar f tn you need to go to the Doctor and find out why you are having trouble taking a deep breath and then depending on what the diagnosis is that will depend on what treatment you receive For example of you have pneumonia then the treatment would be antibiotics and maybe other stuff life steroids and breathing treatments, I'm not saying that's what you have though the only way to know what is going on is to get checked out by your MD Hope you feel better soon
Avatar n tn t a specific diagnosis of what caused the pneumonia. Most pneumonia is infectious, and is most times caused by strep bacteria, so they throw antibiotics at it, and see how the patient responds, there are more aggressive atypical bacterial pneumonia that may require more aggressive treatment, also a persons age, and strength of their immune system is a major factor as well. But there are also viral, fungal, or less commonly parasitic causes of pneumonia.
Avatar n tn He asked if I was sick before the pneumonia diagnosis and the answer is yes. I have had a lot of breathing problems, weight loss, bone pain, shrinking in height, weakness, and stomach problems also. I have also taken a ct scan and I am waiting on the results. Should I be worried and what other test can I ask for or specialitst should I see? I am currently seeing a lung specialist and ENT(for polyps and nasal blockage)Please give me some direction and questions that I should be asking!!!
