Common Questions and Answers about Plavix and cabg

plavix

Avatar n tn i was taken off plavix recently and kept on coumadin and pletal, do i still need plavix?
Avatar n tn g., the intestines and stomach) and plavix helps prevent clotting and execessive bleeding can be a serious event with the interaction of alcohol and plavix. Hope this helps. Thanks for your question, and if you have any follow-up questions or comments you are welcome to respond. Take care and enjoy the New Year.
Avatar n tn In 2006, I had CABG for blockages (2) in the main left coronary artery. However, the graft was unsuccessful for the blockage in the circumflex coronary artery. The cardiologist has told me I am not a candidate for angioplasty or a stent. He says it is because of the "anatomy of the vessel". He performed another heart cath 7 months after the CABG, and my heart went into "v-fib".
Avatar f tn Given the fact that two stents had already been inserted, and it appeared that my body simply rejected them, a CABG was scheduled. Note that I did not suffer another MI, and presented with low blood pressure and a slow heart rate. After the bypass EF was at 40% after 4 days. I am only 45, and am so worried that I wil not be able to return to sport, albeit not at the same level. The cardiologist doesn't seem to hold out much hope for an improvdd EF, but he is extremely uncommunicative.
Avatar n tn She should also be on maximal medical therapy including aspirin, plavix, Ace inhibitor or ARB and a statin, if she can tolerate these medications. And of course a long acting nitrate such as isordil or imdur.
Avatar n tn Early January after EKG change 1 bms placed into 70% blocked branch off lcx. 3 days later it closed with a clot and balloon angioplasty was performed on branch and lcx. Pressure intensified after that even though on heparin drip and nitro drip and enzymes went up. 2 Taxus 2 stents placed after that to lcx across the branch closing the branch off.
Avatar f tn I forgot to list Effient and aspirin on my medication. Effient replaces plavix. Thanks for the encouragement and information.
Avatar m tn Six days out of LAD bypass surgery. Can't sleep. Hot and sweaty, then get so cold that my teeth chatter. Heart feels like it's racing. Also having bad constipation. They've got me on Plavix, Aspirin, Iron, Tenormin, DocQlace, Hydroco/Apap for pain. Was prescribed Meloxicam, but not taking it because of what I read about it and bypass surgeries. Would love to get some sleep.
Avatar m tn The Plavix is an anti-platelet medication to help prevent blood clots. I and many other individuals have been on Plavix and aspirin for up to a year after a drug eluding stent inplant (with DES there is a risk up to about 1 year for a blood clot at the site of the implant) however, after a year many just stay with aspirin and off plavix...recommended after government studies...,risk of excessive bleeding outweigh any benefits if any.
Avatar f tn after the surgery I came home hurting and by the next morning I was hurting so badly that I called my Cardiologist and was flown back to the hospital where I was told my stent had collapsed and he reopened that one and put in another. Over the next 8 months I had 4 more stents put in. I was put on beta blockers, crestor, isosorbide....many different drugs and gained 20 lbs. I have had pain ever since. I am not able to walk for any distance without hurting.
Avatar n tn His Cardiologist ( in Bombay,India) advised CABG in the angiogram report, but on the day following the angiogram when my father expressed concerns about the efficacy/morbidity/mortality of CABG at his age to the same Cardiologist, the Cardiologist (who performed the angiogram)informed us verbally that he agreed with my father, and advised against a CABG at age 81.Also,he said that PCI was not a viable option, and advised medical Rx verbally.
214864 tn?1229715239 Currently I have aggressive CAD, 6 stents and a history of an mi and a stroke. I may be having CABG fairly soon due to the max number of stents in my LAD (4). 7 years ago, I was diagnosed with tachycardia, explained to me as pathological rapid heart rate of unknown cause. I was placed on a beta blocker immediately. My resting heart rate was around 105 bpm. Beta blockers have totally ruined my life, as well as they have save it. What irony...
Avatar n tn I wrote on 4/6 re my wife was diagnosed w/ spasming arteries after a recent cath that showed patent new stents (5 wks) and patent LIMA & SVG grafts post CABG (1 yr 4 mos). You wrote to take my wife to the E.R. after I explained she had a terrible bout with angina a day earlier. She wasn’t feeling worse and spoke with the Dr (who ignored her symptoms the week before) and as it turns out you were correct!
1542723 tn?1294447438 There is a 20 to 30% chance of a stent having some blockage return in the first 6 months, and there are treating doctors that expand the vulnerable period up to 12 months with drug eluding stents and treat with plavix and aspirin. Once you are out of this period the outlook for long term patency is quite good. If the underlying cause that developed your occlusion, there may never be a need for any other therapy.
255163 tn?1376869746 My heart Dr will not let me go off the plavix and my surgeon will not do the surgery while on plavix. What happens in a situation like this?. I am between a rock and a hard place. If neither Dr gives in what do I do? If I have an attack and end up in the ER wouldn't they have to do emergency sugery?. Does this mean that anyone on plavix can never have surgery unless it's an ermergency. What is your opinion on going off plavix temporarily for surgery. I would welcome anyones advice.
Avatar n tn I have read so often that you should not take Plavix and aspirin, but it seems to also be common to prescribe both plavix and aspirin in certain situations. I am worried and confused. Thanks.
Avatar n tn I had angioplasty in 2001 and had a stent implant. My cardiologist prescribed Plavix and 81 mg aspirin daily among the other medications (beta blocker, ACE inhibitor, statin). I have recently moved to a new city and have not found a new cardiologist yet but family physician suggested that Plavix could be discontinued as the guidelines have changed and no long recommended after 12 months post stent implant. Suggestions please?

Avatar n tn The American Dental Association has agreed with the American Heart Association and the AMA, that there are no dental procedures that require the patient to stop Plavix. I read this yesterday, and the article mentioned that much to their dismay, cardiologist were still hearing from their patients that some nutty dentists were still asking them to stop Plavix for a procedure.
Avatar n tn I have been on Coumadin for 18 years due to Lupus Anticoagulant (Antiphospholipid Syndrome) and several DVTs. In 2005 had MI with occlusion of the LAD artery and had drug stent inserted and I am still on plavix. My doc has debated when to take me off the Plavix safely....what are the recent studies about this dilemma? thanks so much!
Avatar f tn She was given platelet went up then down again Can plavix make it worse and will her platelet revert back to normal
1210142 tn?1266077031 I have read a lot about the interaction between Plavix and PPI’s but he thinks only Omeprazole have more effect on Plavix, not Pantoprazole. Please, let me know what your opinion is and have you heard about any interaction between those two? I don’t need an additional heart attack.
Avatar n tn After that length of time it is generally believed to discontinue plavix but remain on aspirin. Although plavix and aspirin are anti-platelet agents, plavix has a different mechanism of action that seems to be specialized for drug eluding stent to prevent restenosis. Laviquin is an antibiotic medication! and there is a class-action suit against Laviqiin providers that is currently unresolved.
