229538 tn?1300377767 Hi all ! Can someone please tell me about pancreatitis and the mortality rate when your cat gets it ? My Kaci cat whom I just love so much is old (about 161/2 ) and I have been taking her to the Vet to get hydrated about every 4 days . She is not really eating well and I am really worried . Anything more that I can do for her ? Any suggestions would be appreciated so much ! Thank you ..
Avatar f tn I washed my boyfriends shirt today and it was soaking wet with sweat and smelled like a bottle of ammonia had been dumped on it. He is diabetic and had pancreatitis a few years ago. He doesn’t take his diabetic medications and still drinks beer almost everyday. He always has headaches, body aches, doesn’t sleep well and sweats buckets just walking. Any help would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn Yes, my Vet is recommending she go on strictly diabetic canned food, and I picked up a case of Purina Veterinary Diets DM Diabetic Management. I gave her a little mixed in with some of her old canned, and surprise, she liked it! Thanks for the link and definitely I will keep in mind the "Ask the Vet expert column." Thank you.
Avatar f tn Hello Everyone, My Wiz had a dental/extraction and ultrasound today. The us showed significant kidney changes… as well as an enlarged or hardened pancreatic node I think. We are putting him on a bp med and maybe some chinese herbs eventually. One of his kidney values was very mildly elevated so I wanted to do the ultrasound and he has had vomiting on and off… it seemed to be hairball related, I treated that and it seems to help and sometimes food related.
Avatar m tn well that is certainly good news that both of your kitties have gone on to no longer need insuln, didn't know that was a possibility. Alicat I found a site that reads "in a dog sugar can enter the lens of the eye causing rapid cataract formation, but the lens of a cat is different(is all it says) this phenomenon primarily occurs in dogs" http://www.marvistavet.com/html/feline_diabetes_center.
Avatar m tn my mother is diabetic patient since 10years. she is 40years old and suffering from chronic calcific pancreatitis since a year. But we got to know about it only a month ago as she was going through weight loss and oily stools. she has been through ERCP but doctors could not remove calculi present in the pancreatic duct head. so they suggested ESWL for blasting calculi.
Avatar n tn My brother, who is 23 years old, was recently hospitalized with pancreatis. He was in the intensive care unit for 4-5 days. He has had type 1 diabetes since he was 4. My questions is: what is a safe amount of alcohol for him to consume without risk of these complications again?
Avatar f tn PLEASE HELP!! My mother has been in the hospital since Sunday with pancreatitis. She is still in horrible pain and they still have no idea what is causing it. She is 68 years old and a type 2 diabetic are there any reccomdations? She has never drank and this is the first time this has happened. PLEASE HELP it unbearible to see ny mom like this!!!!
Avatar m tn Im wondering what causes that especially in pancreatitis? I loss alot of weight a year ago, was real sick with abnormal bruising and weakness, falling down, ect, this was before pancreas started acting up again, prior to that I had only one acute episode of pancreatitis. Now its been basically non-stop, confirmed by mri, that it is chronic pancreatitis, and fatty liver.
Avatar m tn If all your labs (liver and pancreatic enzymes) are nornal, it would be very unusual for this to be pancreatitis. Typically the only time pancreatitis shows up and the enzymes levels show 'normal' levels is when someone progresses from acute to chronic pancreatitis. So if this hasn't been a condition that's happened several times in a couple of years, the chances of it being pancreatitis is low. All of the PPIs do not act the same nor do they have the same side-effects.
587315 tn?1333552783 Think about this, the USDA has no say so in our cats food. To those of you who are unsure of what the USDA does, they inspect HUMAN meat and make sure it is fit for consumption. SOOOO, if they're not regulating our cat's food-what kind of "meat" do ya think they are getting?? I have had so many cats over the years-always more than two at a time, and most of them have died from cancer, kidney disease, and thyroid problems.
Avatar m tn I learned everything about home testing from the people experienced with diabetic kitties on this site. Just type in www.felinediabetesd.com and look for Lantus (Glargine) links. If you could check around and ask for a Vet who is experienced with home testing, it would be better. Most Vets for some reason don't encourage home testing, but without it is like testing blind. Sorry for typos, as I'm in a rush. Lots of luck and I'll check back. www.felinediabetes.
Avatar f tn Aw, the poor sweetie. Switch your cat to a hypo-alergenic, human grade food like By Nature's Organic (no wheat, no soy, no corn, no grains of any kind, avoid high sugar content if possible). Make sure you feed wet food (6 oz per day per 10 pounds of body weight is about right) as well as dry food and lots of water. Give him yucca supplement, which is a natural anti-inflammatory.
1126279 tn?1311895042 I also had TP with auto islet cell transplant at Mayo Clinic in 2011. Anyway it went great, I'm not diabetic, the islet cells are working really well! But few months later my stomach got twisted and the doctors had to remove all of my stomach. After that I have had some serious problems, but if that hadn't happened I would be doing great because I was feeling so much better and was finally free from heavy painkillers.
Avatar m tn See a neuroophthalmologist or neurologist. Dr. O.
Avatar f tn yes please do check out that very informative site....this Dr. Pierson gives really indepth info also instructions on how to do home blood glucose monitoring...anyone with a diabetic cat needs this as their bible:)) Pip....I just re-read Dr. Piersons site...and she has it written right there that a low carb diet has reduced or eliminated the need for insulin...I will copy some of the studies she has quotes...great job papa cat!!!
Avatar m tn Measuring pancreatic amylase, or P-amylase, may be useful in determining if an increase in a total amylase level is due to acute pancreatitis. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What does the test result mean? In acute pancreatitis, amylase in the blood often increases to 4 to 6 times higher than the highest reference value, sometimes called upper limit of normal.
Avatar f tn An acute pancreatitis in my experience does not normally cause ascites. FIP is a possibility but I would be more interested in looking at causes of a low serum protein. Low protein causes a buildup of fluid in the abdomen and is often associated with a condition called exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. Protein could be lost via the intestine (protein losing enteropathy) or in the urine (protein losing nephropathy).
Avatar f tn He could very well be very allergic to something in the food and it is causing him pancreatitis and inflammation of the intestine. Not a good place to be. He really needs to see the doc, K? Keep us posted.

Avatar f tn My mother has been dealing with chrinic pancreatitis for about 9 months now. She has tried 5 different enzyme concotions given by her MD and they have all made her violently ill. I am wondering if anyone else has had or knowas someone who has had this problem. when asked, the MD says she will not die from this but she is losing weight rather quickly. Since she started being treated for CP she has lost about 15pounds. She is so tiny and has not appetite.
Avatar f tn Dr said I am pre diabetic and that if my triglycerides pass 500 that it means pancreatitis. I am just worried because my mother suffered from Hep C (however I have tested negative). I hardly have any sugar in my diet however I dont eat very well, some times if at all. I will work on eating more veg/fruit. I am just so concerned because i have never had irregular blood work.
Avatar f tn You can follow a diabetic diet without nuts, seeds, and skins (of fruits and vegetables) which will help you with all your other issues. A diabetic diet is low in fat and helps keep your blood sugars down, The avoidance of nuts, seeds, and skins will help control your diverticulitis. Suggest going to the American Dietetic Association website, www.eatright.
