Avatar f tn My mother had her pacemaker replaced in March 09 She went for a pacemaker check today. She has had arrhytmias the past several months so she has an appt next week to see her doc. What causes arrhytmias even when you have a pacemaker. Is this normal? Pacemakers are supposed to treat this, right?
Avatar f tn I have been told by others that they had problems with the pacemaker and wish they had not done this. I had a blood test done recently and my kidney's were fine and I don't have trouble breathing or fluid. I don't want to go through the surgery of the pacemaker. My brother had a transplant at age 40 (his is now 64). My brothers son had a transplant at age 26 ( and doing fine). My son had a transplant at age 40. (he is now 45).
Avatar f tn All surgeries have some risk, but I think catheter surgery (done with catheters through an artery) are among the lest dangerous. You didn't say why you are considering surgery. If the "problem" is minor you may want to consider living with it rather than take any risk. Talk it over with your doctor. The worst I've read that I think can be a bad outcome of sinus node surgery is the sinus node shuts down and one then has to have a pacemaker implanted.
Avatar f tn I had a pacemaker put in November 2010. It was the most horrifying experience I have ever gone through as the lidocaine had absolutely no effect and versed does not work on me so I had full feeling of surgery from the initial incision to the creation of the pocket into my muscle and placement of the pacemaker. My heart rate and blood pressure had been dropping to critical levels. A BP of 60/40 at night and a heart rate in the low to mid thirties was commonplace.
Avatar n tn Replacing the 2 wire pacemaker with the 3 wire pacemaker is a surgery. My mom had this done and it was more than she expected, so it would be wise to wait as your doctor recommended the 5 months.
Avatar n tn i had 3 open heart surgery and on my 2nd. pacemaker.. my first pacemaker last me for 18yrs. and just got my 2nd. pacemaker Dec.2006.. my pacemaker was implanted in my upper chest on the right side.. only thing i hate the surgery doctor told me he would use the same cut as the other pacemaker but when i woke up he cut me in another spot.. well i can say.. ask your doctor his he using the same cut as the first pacemaker was in..
Avatar m tn She is not a candidate for the surgery due to her other health problems.
Avatar n tn Hello again, it sounds like you are in need of having the pacemaker; it really isn't a big deal....my own daughter had one placed when she was 8 years old. It is done in the cath lab so it isn't a surgery. You will feel so much better if you have this done.
Avatar n tn Hi, I am aware of the pacemakers-defibrillators which have the inbuilt mechanism of turning off the defibrillators without compromising the functioning of the pacemaker. This is done with the help of a magnet and is usually done before a patient goes in for any surgery. However, I am not particularly aware of this model. I’ll suggest you to write mail to the company and seek an answer or maybe it’s mentioned in the manual which comes along with such devices. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar f tn My 6 month check-up post surgery 24 hour Holter recording is 39,000 heart beats. The ablation was not successful. The cardiologist is indicating I may need a pacemaker. I can't seem to find information that explains how a pacemaker can manage PVCs. Can anyone point me to resources or help me understand how this works?
Avatar f tn Hi on 10/13/08 my mother had a pacemaker placed because her HR was 27 bpm. After the surgery she has been dizzy, confused and forgets thing, depress, emotional. She has not been back to work yet because she is a medication nurse. We have had a EEG, CAT Scan done and nothing has shown up. Where do we go from here? I was also wondering can the pacemaker be set to high they have it set at 60 bpm.? They are trying to tell us that it might be her inner ear I do not believe it.
675084 tn?1233087505 good you ask me.. my pacemaker is set to 80beats and I'm 100% depend on my pacemaker.. i have a Medtronic this my 2nd. pacemaker... my first Medtronic pacemaker i had it for 18 yrs. until the doctor turn it down than it didn't work good.. had to get a new one.. in Dec. it will be 2yrs. i had my pacemaker check last week and i find out the doctor that put my pacemaker in didn't set my pacemaker for life depend.. Avatar n tn t expect you to have nausea or vomiting, I was just talking about how a gastric pacemaker works. I would recommend you get more testing done on your intestines and trying more conventional treatments before resorting to something involving surgery like a colonic pacemaker.
Avatar f tn I just read your post. I had ventricular septal defect as a baby. I had to get a pacemaker because I got complete surgical heart block after they sutured me. The damage was done to the SA node which is your own natural pacemaker. If I were you I would look into what happened during surgery that caused the needle to get "lost" I wish you the best !
Avatar f tn After pacemaker surgery, is it common to have mood swings including crying jags?
Avatar m tn Looking for any information for corrective surgery or colon pacemaker for adults who were born with an imperforate anus.
Avatar m tn The pain associated with an implanted pacemaker may be musculoskeletal or nerve related. Most likely related to the minor surgery required for insertion of the pacemaker. This type of pain related to the incision should heal within weeks. If you have persistent chest pain at the site of the pacemaker, it might be reasonable to see your doctor so that possible causes can be evaluated.
1078068 tn?1255906891 Low energy. Should I undergoe a full maze procedure (little confidence) or a pacemaker. My heart rate is usually low 40's when not in tachycardia. Would my ventrical beat keep me alive if pacemaker failed. Is this risky?
Avatar n tn One of the common complications that we see in these patients is sinus node dysfunction, or abnormal function of the natural pacemaker of the heart. This is due to the large amount of surgery and scar tissue near the sinus node, which can certainly occur with an intracardiac version of the Fontan. Therefore, it is not uncommon to see heart rates this low in patients after a Fontan. At this point, the most important fact is that she is asymptomatic.
1600503 tn?1305349464 Of course, I have no knowledge of what is involved in making connections to the heart, but I do understand that it normally can be done. I know personally only two people who wear a pacemaker and neither had or have any problems with the connections./operation of the devices.
Avatar m tn I recently had a pacemaker installed due to heart block. Prior to the surgery I experienced no symptoms. No fatigue or lightheadedness, in fact I didn't even know there was a problem until the EKG. Since the surgery, I am so fatigued and have a pins and needles feeling in my head and neck. Last week I was told that the top portion of the pacemaker was not working, but that I didn't need it.
Avatar m tn Tentatively, plans are to use another brand of PM, I hope either coated or pouched in something more hypoallergenic and perhaps bactericidal. Surgery will be done by a cardiac surgeon in the OR rather than a cath lab. Supposedly, more sterile conditions can be maintained in the OR. My question is, based on my history of "rejecting" previous PM implants, do you think that's strong enough measures? Or should more precision testing for bacteria and allergies be done?
Avatar m tn Decisions were made, surgery was done, and they provided her with a pacemaker. At that time, she had shortly after moved into a home (big place, they have a visiting hair dresser, play games, have a bar (no alcohol, but it has the ambiance). Several things. My mother had a defibrillator component to her pacemaker, and this fired-off once when it shouldn't have. Be sure your mother is not experiencing something similar, it could be unnerving.
