Avatar f tn Now I have a 2 leads St Jude pacemaker. I also got 3 leads in my heart. The current pacemaker is number 4. It implanted in 2002. Not the new model require 2 leads. It depends how many leads that your husband needs. Oh, I rather say it depends your husband's EP choose how many leads for him! They're one lead, two leads. three leads and even four leads pacemaker in the market. Does your husband still has wpw? Was he had the open heart surgery for wpw?
Avatar n tn a stroke is a brain attack. TIA is not a full-blown stroke, but mimics one as you suggest. An Electrocardiogram (EKG) to confirm a regular heart rate, blockage of electrical impulses through the heart, etc. It will not show any blood flow through the vessels, bleeding, blockage, etc..The ekg only analyzes electrical wave impulses. A computerized tomography (CT scan) of the brain to look for bleeding would be appropriate test.
Avatar m tn For patients whose symptoms cannot be adequately controlled with medications, surgery may be an option. Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is a neurosurgical procedure involving the implantation of pacemaker-like battery pack in your chest connected to electrodes terminating in a specific part of your brain. DBS can help lessen motor symptoms of stiffness, slowness and tremor.
Avatar f tn I had a pacemaker put in in mid-June (2009). It's on the left side. My left arm is swollen, tight and sore and really has been for the last 7 or 8 weeks. A dopler test revealed no blood clots. My electrophysiologist said sometimes (but not usually) it takes the other smaller veins a while to get the blood rerouted. He said since the test showed no blood clots, he's not particularly worried.
Avatar n tn It sounds like sounds like he may be going into a dysrhythmia and the pacemaker not kicking in, therefore causing him a lack of oxygen to brain so he passed out? He may be dropping his heart rate too low and the pacemaker not kicking in lick it should be, therefore causing him to pass out. Or he may not be eating enough due to loss of appetite, therefore causing him to have a hypoglycemic episode or low blood sugar, you may want to check his sugar periodically or question the doctor about this.
Avatar n tn My friend informed me today that the blood clot on her atrial pacemaker lead has not dissolved (she was on Coumadin) and in fact has gotten larger and more are forming on the lead. What could cause a blood clot to form on a pacemaker lead and how common is this? If anyone has had this happen, what was done or can it be corrected safely? I'm very concerned about her and want to help her find any information that can help.
585050 tn?1301835164 Ever since I had brain surgery in 2001, (originally they thought I had a brain tumor, but it turned out to be an AVM which was removed) I have had strange, randomly occuring headaches that are caused by noise or light or even by a breeze running through my hair over the surgical site. The surgery was in the right temporal lobe. Sometimes they start for no apparent reason. I was once told that this was Post-Craniotomy Headache Syndrome.
Avatar m tn Does she have written wishes or did she express wishes? Is she healthy enough for the surgery? Patients with dementia are not always healthy in the end. Either way, the pacemaker is not going to extend her life.
Avatar n tn i had 3 open heart surgery and on my 2nd. pacemaker.. my first pacemaker last me for 18yrs. and just got my 2nd. pacemaker Dec.2006.. my pacemaker was implanted in my upper chest on the right side.. only thing i hate the surgery doctor told me he would use the same cut as the other pacemaker but when i woke up he cut me in another spot.. well i can say.. ask your doctor his he using the same cut as the first pacemaker was in..
Avatar n tn Kyle is right, as are the others. Have you had any brain or spinal MRI's done recently? or is that a no no with the rods? My latest neuro (#4 I think) thinks I've had it since 1981, it just wasn't picked up on and no MRI then, I managed 1 MRI before my pacemaker went in, tried another after that, pacemaker co won't let me do another, so do have my lesions captured once I found someone who knew how to read them.
Avatar m tn Hi Doctor, My bro aged 21 recently jus joined army force as regular, physical fit in average, not really stressful workout in camp as he's a military police. During 1 week ago, he went for full medical check up in camp & founded out by MO his HR is only 36/min. Immediately warded to hospital. 24hour EKG, worst result during resting was 26/min.
Avatar f tn m 57 y/o female, good weight (bmi 20), good health except I have ALWAYS had a very low resting heart rate and b/p (35 bpm, 95/54 in early morning & sleeping). I fainted at home a few weeks ago (I think from dehydration) and my husband called 911. My 1st clear memory is ICU 3 days later with a doctor saying sign a consent for a pacemaker or I could die. Obviously, I signed. A week later, I had emergency surgery for a dropped heart lead.
Avatar n tn But the pacemaker might allow him to survive the surgery.....however implanting the pacemaker is a risk in itself! Quite a lot of older dogs go through surgery ok. But it depends on what surgery, and it depends on their overall condition for their age. I they are generally well, the risks are greatly lessened. It sounds as if he is in quite bad shape. In my opinion, the worst-case scenario would be that he didn't survive the surgery.
Avatar n tn So sorry to hear you are having such a hard time -- studies do show that any type of surgery can cause depression, although it often resolves in a few weeks to a few months in most. Patients who undergo heart surgery and/or have cardiac health problems have higher levels of depression than the general population that seem to last longer.
Avatar f tn My grandfather is 85 years old age, having pacemaker. He has Solid and Cystic mass & extensive edema seen in right cerebral found in his brain, though not detectable clearly whether it is a tumor or brain metastases. He was diagnosed with thyroid papillary carcinoma & it was operated 10 years ago and a follow through was kept with the cancer center and he was cancer free. Now he is having a left sided midline shift of 5mm and small infarct seen in right caudate nucleus.

Avatar m tn I do not believe a pacemaker in-and-of-itself can cause a change in personality. However, the fact that one needs a pacemaker may be depressing emotionally and also cause anxiety. I am only 75 (compared to 91) and I know dealing with aging is difficult at best... I men when one feels "good" as can be expected (of course less than desired). You may want to try a post on Senior Health or on Anxiety.
Avatar f tn ll be gone from the forum most of the summer, many things are going on in my life and internet is not a high priority in the deep woods of my peaceful zone. Everyone stay safe and happy this summer.
Avatar f tn My mother had her pacemaker replaced in March 09 She went for a pacemaker check today. She has had arrhytmias the past several months so she has an appt next week to see her doc. What causes arrhytmias even when you have a pacemaker. Is this normal? Pacemakers are supposed to treat this, right?
Avatar m tn A PACEMAKER WAS IMPLANTED IN ME IN JAN. SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD MODERATE TO SEVERE PAIN IN MY LEFT CHEST AREA. XRAYS SHOW NOTHING AND MY LUNGS ARE CLEAR. COULD THIS DISCOMFORT BE EMINTING FROM THE SCAR TISSUE RELATED FROM THE INSURATION AND IF SO IS THERE A SOLUTION?
Avatar n tn > will i have another stroke as i hadn't realised i had the first one Hi. Sorry to say, but probably the time that a person is most likely to have a stroke is in the weeks/months after you've already had one. All the conditions were ripe for the first one and the conditions probably remain the same. Have you also checked your peripheral vision? That can affect your walking ability (like bumping into things) and you might not realize that it is lessened now.
Avatar n tn I am a 45 year old, female with SSS. Is it normal to feel weak 2 weeks after a pacemaker operation? I have days ok, and days that I feel very weak...hope someone can help...
539989 tn?1218832080 I had surgery six weeks ago to have a pacemaker put in. There were complications and the Dr. pierced my lung and a chest tube had to be inserted. I still have alot of pain from where the chest tube was and I have some numbness on the left side of my back, side and arm. My chest is still extremely tender from where my pacemaker was placed. I am wondering if this is all normal. My pacemaker scar is very bad looking as well.
Avatar f tn Has anyone out there had a pacemaker implanted because the beta blocker, in my case atenolol, makes their bp and pulse too low? Thanks.
Avatar n tn She fell down on the cement and cracked her skull. She needed emergency brain surgery and almost did not survive. She received a pacemaker (Medtronic brand) and lived another 12 years. Your EF is low. Normal is 55 to 60. Your cardiologist knows what is best for you. Sometimes a person does feel fine and has no symptoms, but that doesn't mean that everything is okay. I have heard people say that their EF went up after they received a defibrillator.
Avatar m tn I recently had a pacemaker installed due to heart block. Prior to the surgery I experienced no symptoms. No fatigue or lightheadedness, in fact I didn't even know there was a problem until the EKG. Since the surgery, I am so fatigued and have a pins and needles feeling in my head and neck. Last week I was told that the top portion of the pacemaker was not working, but that I didn't need it.
