Pacemaker surgery heart beat

Common Questions and Answers about Pacemaker surgery heart beat

pacemaker

675084 tn?1233087505 Can your pacemaker be set to make your heart beat a certain rate? My mom's Medtronic pacemaker would not allow her heart to beat under 70 beats per minute. She had a dual pacemaker. Ask your doctor if they can set your pacemaker.
Avatar n tn However, after the surgery she has still been kept on pacemaker as cardiologists said her heart rate is still on 48-55 per minute (which is quite slow). The cardiologists have suggested that if the heart rate does not return back to normal a permanent pacemaker maybe required. Can anyone please suggest whether to wait for the heart beat to be back to normal or go for the pacemaker. Thanks in advance for the help.
Avatar f tn Are you on any medications as well? The low BP will certainly make you feel light-headed. A HR of 93 is brisk but not all that fast. Excuse me if I don't understand: your pacer "kicks in" at 80? Usually a pacer is to bring up a slow HR like yours in the 40's. So if yours dropped, then the pacer would kick in to bring it up to 60 or 65 (my Dad's was set at 60). Anyway, I think if your BP is low, that's why you feel dizzy.
Avatar f tn My 2 month old granddaughter had complete av canal surgery on her heart. They removed the pacemaker 3 days ago and her heart rate has been fine. However, last night it dropped to 70 bpm and they plugged the pacemaker back in. Why would it beat fine for 3 days and then misfire? Just trying to get some ideas.
Avatar f tn A lady friend underwent open heart surgery to repair/replace two heart valves and to do a mini maze to stop atrial fibrillation. She has been in the hospital for the past 10 days due to complications and had a pacemaker installed a few days back to address low heart rate. This, new to me, is due to swelling due to surgery and the swelling is restricting heart beat signals to the ventricle muscles - it is our hope that when the swelling goes down the pacemaker will not be needed.
Avatar n tn My grandmother lays in hospital with 26 heart beat late..what can we do..to safe her life. Pacemaker is too expensive.
Avatar m tn My pacer was inserted three years ago, and my heart rate and blood pressure rates were great afterwards. However, I had to have bypass surgery, and following the surgery my heart rate and blood pressure was hard to control. The docs contacted my pacer manufacturer and together, they found the problem. I'd strongly urge you to contact St. Judes and send them the very well worded post that you sent us, and ask them for some help. St.
Avatar f tn When I was at the doctors office they explained that it is working everytime her heart beats. They told us that the lower right side of her heart is bad. They said the pacemaker is set at 60bpm to keep her heart at a steady beat but when her blood pressure is taken the lower number is always in the 80's. I tryed to ask could the pacemaker be set to high for her body.
1078068 tn?1255906891 By a full maze, do you mean open heart surgery? That has some risks. I had open heart mini maze done when I had my mitral valve repaired. I still have permanent AFib... and a resulting high HR. You say you have a low HR, how is that related to AFib? Or, are you saying your low HR developed after an ablation stopped the AFib.. this doesn't make sense to me either. Sorry if having such a problem putting the (short) story together.
Avatar f tn 1, which means that every other heart beat originating from the natural pacemaker of the heart (the sinus node) was getting through the atrioventricular node (AV node), the single electrical connection from the top of the heart to the bottom of the heart. This means that the actual heart rate and cardiac output was decreased. Without seeing your child’s ECG and evaluating your child, I cannot give you specific information.
Avatar m tn Well, a pacemaker would still be advised despite the heart being able to cope with stress, The pacemaker is just going to work as a safety valve if ever required. A pacemaker does not normally discharge the heart beat and works only when an abnormal heart beat/ rate is detected. It can be set to a minimal value before it starts to respond. I would suggest reconsidering the decision of getting one. Take care!
1348086 tn?1370783185 In my case, the holter was definitive in showing why I needed a pacemaker, it showed a heart beat issue. The stress tests were more influential in leading to stents and eventually, bypass surgery. I'm not sure it's an either/or situation, it's more a matter of evaluating all the information. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn This seems odd to me, slow heart rate so exercise and if you pass out then we will talk about a pacemaker. I just had hernia repair surgery and have not been able to exercise. Currently the tired feeling is pretty bad and my energy level is horrible. My General Doc was suprised by his conclusion. Thoughts on my condition, any similar experiences? Should I seek another opinion on whether a pacemaker should be implanted?
Avatar n tn That treatment may include a Pacemaker (PM). How invasive is this surgery? Is it as bad as and Open Heart ByPass? I need information. Can anyone help us?
Avatar f tn The new Pacemaker installed is a Medtronic Adapta. Since the new pacemaker my Heart beat has been all over the place. My 1st Enrhythym was paced at 80 bpm, and it pretty much stayed like that for 5.5 years until the battery started to go. The problem is is that the new Pacemaker is not like that at all! My heartbeat goes from 56 to 93, back to 71 then 86, and has gone a high as 100. It is all over the place. The Enrythym never went under 80. This Adapta is not doing that.
Avatar m tn The reason for a low heartrate must be found I think. Myself, I have heart rates down in the 30s at sleep, and a heart rate down to 30 is considered normal during sleep. The relevant question is if this low heart rate is sinus bradycardia, or caused by blocks/ventricular escape rhythm. If it is, it's not benign. Another very relevant question is if the heart is able to maintain a sufficient cardiac output with a heart rate that low.
Avatar n tn By the way...I noticed the ??? near the "natural pacemaker" portion of your post. Thought I'd take a minute to help you understand. The sinus atrial node is a clump of cells in your heart that put out an electrical current that causes the rest of your cells in the atrial center of your heart to contract. The electrical current continues into the ventricular node and causes the bottom of the heart to contract immediately after that.
Avatar f tn Good day - Jan I went to my Gino for normal yearley follow up - I am 44 yr - hy accidently discovered that my heart beat is irregular. Sent me for ECG and I also went for a heart sonar. The ECG was 'normal' or the dr did not comment - he also did some blood tests, which was all normal.
659608 tn?1318289366 The doctor suggested a pace maker to help her heart beat more regular, blood thinners to dissolve the clot, then when that is done, do Cardio Version to shock her heart into beating correct. This seems very extreme for someone that age, who also is developing mild dementia. What are the risks to that age, and is it worth putting her through all of this? She has never had surgery, and is in fairly good health living alone at this time.
Avatar m tn The only way I'm aware to fix a low heart beat is with a pacemaker. That is, if the low heart rate is symptomatic like your son's. If it's not symptomatic, if it were me, I'd just leave it alone. It sounds like he might have "sick sinus syndrome", which if bad enough he would benefit from a pacemaker.
Avatar m tn For some insight, the heart problem may be secondary to the kidney disorder. If there is an overload of fluids (volume) that condition will/can overwork the heart and as a result the heart becomes weak and almost always the heart size will increase. The 15% of blood pumped into circulation with each heart stroke can back up the blood received from the lungs and fluids can leak into lung tissues and cause congestion...
Avatar f tn no. 84 is not high, it's only generally if it gets to over 100 at rest that tachycardia is diagnosed. As long as his heart rate is stable and there are no rhythm problems, then there is certainly no requirement for a pacemaker.
Avatar m tn it prevents your heart beat from going too slow. The device is attached to the heart via wires called leads and spends its life looking for native impulses arising from the cardiac muscle. If your natural pulse rate drops below 60 (or whatever our programmed number is) the pacemaker will begin stimulating the heart with an imperceptible electrical shock once every second.
1526054 tn?1291588594 Thank you so much for your answer. But am confused about one thing. If your artery or arteries are "clogged" by plaque or cholesterol would you not need to have a bypass surgery or something? Or is a pacemaker enough to correct this? My mom had to have a pacemaker and I have cardiac hx on both sides of the family with everyone!! Several have pacemakers and one had a defibrillator.
1400314 tn?1280731525 Hi mcalderon91723, If this were me, one of the things I'd like to know would be what terminated the 7.5 second pause? My understadning is that every cell in your heart can become a pacemaker. It's nature's wonderful backup system in case the regular pacemaker signal doesn't reach the ventricles. The noraml pacemaker is a group of cells in the atrium called the "sino atrial node" or SA node.
Avatar n tn i had 3 open heart surgery and on my 2nd. pacemaker.. my first pacemaker last me for 18yrs. and just got my 2nd. pacemaker Dec.2006.. my pacemaker was implanted in my upper chest on the right side.. only thing i hate the surgery doctor told me he would use the same cut as the other pacemaker but when i woke up he cut me in another spot.. well i can say.. ask your doctor his he using the same cut as the first pacemaker was in..
Avatar n tn Hi, Yes, changes in blood pressure with a pacemaker should alert you about the replacement of the pacemaker, because if your mother is completely dependant upon the pace maker for her heart beat, then this will affect her heart rate and hence the pressures. It is necessary to consult a cardiologist immediately for a temporary pace maker, to support the heart rate while he changes the pacemaker. Hope this helps. Best.
