Avatar f tn t seem to find information that explains how a pacemaker can manage PVCs. Can anyone point me to resources or help me understand how this works?

Avatar f tn My son is 17 year old. I was advised by to input pacemaker by 1 doctor. Another cardiologist said that pacemaker can have side effects like leads leakage which ultimately can lead to heart problems. And other infections as well. They said he is too young to have pacemaker. Has anyone got any experience or suggestions please? Thanks in advance. Worried mom.
Avatar f tn A week later I was released with 7 medications and a LifeVest with plans to get a pacemaker after the 1st of the year. The heart failure team and cardiology team want to try a pacemaker before looking for a new heart. I pray the pacemaker works wonder. Anyone else with an EF below 15% and have been able to make improvements to increase your EF? If so, what has worked for you?
Avatar m tn But even with the pacemaker and oxygen, she is only able to move around the house a small amount. I am wondering how much less she will be able to do once the battery ceases to function. Will she still be able to move about the house or will she be more tired than she is already?
512694 tn?1216161406 That's right - size doesn't matter. If it's located in a sensitive area, you're going to feel it. Let's hope in 10 days you feel better. (I've never heard of gastric pacemaker, just the regular pacemaker for the heart. I'll have to look it up and learn something new.
Avatar n tn First I would like to know if there are other alternatives to a pacemaker? My grandma of 88 years old has been diagnosed with bradycardia and has been recommended to have a pacemaker. i am terribly worried about infection and possible arterial damage and weakness. I would like to know the best doctor to see about this surgery and a second option. Does anyone have any excellent recommendations I love my grandma. Help!
675084 tn?1233087505 good you ask me.. my pacemaker is set to 80beats and I'm 100% depend on my pacemaker.. i have a Medtronic this my 2nd. pacemaker... my first Medtronic pacemaker i had it for 18 yrs. until the doctor turn it down than it didn't work good.. had to get a new one.. in Dec. it will be 2yrs. i had my pacemaker check last week and i find out the doctor that put my pacemaker in didn't set my pacemaker for life depend.. Good news is now my pacemaker is set for it not to be ever turn off..
Avatar m tn Just wondering how much longer you do stay alive with the pacemaker?? It has to extend your life. As I see it, what are we extending??
Avatar f tn I would suggest you make an appointment with your cardiologist to discuss the symptoms you are now having, which do not sound good. I think you need another cardiac workup to find out how both your heart and your pacemaker are functioning--before you even think of having the pacer removed.
Avatar f tn The specialist were telling me that companies are currently trying to create wireless pacemaker. How far have they come with this process,if you are aware? They told me that there is no money in the research for children's pacemakers. That everything they use is passed down from adult research. This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/869140'>Pacemaker lead failure</a>.
Avatar n tn Really this is a question for the implanting doctor to answer, as he know his own rate of complications. In general at our institution the immediate risks are of lung collapse, bleeding in the pocket or around the heart requiring pericadiocentesis ( draining of the blood around the heart) or open heart surgery. This is very rare, occurring less than 1/1000 patients. Long term consequences include infection of the device or leads, requirement of long term follow up.
Avatar m tn I don't understand your question, but: 1) I believe bypass surgery (to replace blocked arteries) is not considered "open heart surgery". 2) I believe a defibrillator and pacemaker do not require open heart surgery. Why do you want open heart surgery?
Avatar f tn She has been in the hospital for the past 10 days due to complications and had a pacemaker installed a few days back to address low heart rate. This, new to me, is due to swelling due to surgery and the swelling is restricting heart beat signals to the ventricle muscles - it is our hope that when the swelling goes down the pacemaker will not be needed. It was a first to me to hear of a too slow HR associated with atrial fibrillation - but here it seems it is due to surgery not Afib...
Avatar f tn That is so wrong. Definitely do NOT go back to that doctor. He should have stopped the procedure right at the beginning when you were obviously in such pain, not just whining. Explain to your new doctor exactly what happened. I wonder if they could redo the PM under general anesthesia? More risk involved with that though. It sounds like it has to be redone; it's not staying put. If it tears through the skin, it will be more work for them to correct it not to mention the emergency factor.
Avatar f tn After pacemaker surgery, is it common to have mood swings including crying jags?
Avatar m tn The pain associated with an implanted pacemaker may be musculoskeletal or nerve related. Most likely related to the minor surgery required for insertion of the pacemaker. This type of pain related to the incision should heal within weeks. If you have persistent chest pain at the site of the pacemaker, it might be reasonable to see your doctor so that possible causes can be evaluated.
Avatar m tn I'm alittle confused; you said you had an open heart surgery to implant a pacemaker? They don't implant pacers with an open heart surgery. What was the surgery for? My daughter had two pacers put in, in the cath lab during the same time period you are writing about. She finally had a transplant when she was 22. Pushing a HCM heart is not always the best thing to do, especially if you have an arrhythmia problem as well. have you discussed all of this with your doctor?
Avatar f tn All surgeries have some risk, but I think catheter surgery (done with catheters through an artery) are among the lest dangerous. You didn't say why you are considering surgery. If the "problem" is minor you may want to consider living with it rather than take any risk. Talk it over with your doctor. The worst I've read that I think can be a bad outcome of sinus node surgery is the sinus node shuts down and one then has to have a pacemaker implanted.
Avatar n tn husband had surgery due to ulcer . and had 40% of stomach removerd . has not been able to eat. states he feels stopped up and food does not go through.and continues to lose weight. need suggestions in order to help . and also would gastric pacemaker be of benifet.
Avatar f tn In July, Gentrie underwent surgery to have the pacemaker implanted. As she was prepped for surgery, the teenager asked her doctor, “Can I have KFC root beer when I wake up?” After a little over a month with the pacemaker, Gentrie can consume things like clear liquids, chicken noodle soup, Popsicles and some fruit.
Avatar n tn I imagine each case is different but my Dad went from ICD to pacemaker with no problem. They used the same leads but the placement may have been different than yours. I hope your switch goes as easily as his did.
Avatar n tn My mom is 52. She's had her pacemaker for 4 1/2 years now. Fractures, while rare, are fixable. the original plan was that hers was fractured. So the procedure would be to snip both ends, cap them and sew them down, and then implant the new lead in another spot close by. In that procedure you do not have to have open heart surgery. It's much like the original surgery where you get the pacemaker. They go in through the original scar site and fix everything and finish up.
Avatar f tn Hi.. I am 20. I am getting pacemaker.. How many years i can live? What is the average life span for me?
Avatar f tn A rate that low is called "bradycardia." There are a few different causes but primarily she needs to find out how often it occurs and whether she'll need a pacemaker. That would keep her heart rate up where it belongs. Has she mentioned having any light headedness or fainting?
Avatar m tn After getting the pacemaker, my BP readings have been progressively worst week by week. Befor the pacemaker, for years my top (systolic) readings used to around 110 to max of around 160, and after the pacemaker, they even reached worst level of around 190, and yesterday scary level of 225. - Even though my family phys added Clonidine to previous BP-meds of Altace, HCTZ, and Cardura, my BP keeps moving higher an higehr each week... I never had so high numbers before the pacemaker.
