Avatar f tn I need to lose 80 lbs. and have osteoarthritis. I've been on a low carb diet twice and both times the arthritis has flared and become quite painful. I think it's an excess of protein. How else can I lose weight? I can't stand being hungry and have good weight loss results with low carb. Help please!
Avatar f tn I once weighed 210. I now weigh 162. I have lost 48 lbs very slowly, but when I got this heavy manual labor job, it came off faster. The thing is, I've had to quit due to severe chronic pain. I am a 47 year old female with great blood pressure and glucose levels, but I have an emergency inhaler. I am desperately afraid of losing the ground I have gained in my weight loss. I don't want to be fat anymore.

16411434 tn?1447717985 BEFORE THE DEPO SHOT I WALKED 6 MILES A DAY AND DID CALISTHENICS EVERY MORNING AND NIGHT. I GAINED EVEN MORE WEIGHT AFTER THAT 3 MONTH PERIOD AND NOW AT 250 LBS., OVER 100 LBS. MORE THAN I WAS BEFORE THE DEPO SHOT, DOING ANYTHING APART FROM GOING TO THE BATHROOM PUTS ME IN SEVERE PAIN AS I HAVE SEVERE OSTEOARTHRITIS AND NO CARTILEGE IN MY HIPS. I WENT TO THE DOCTOR AND SHE BELIEVED ME TO HAVE A HORMONE IMBALANCE AS A RESULT OF THE DEPO SHOT.
Avatar f tn I also take Estradiol 1mg due to a total hysterectomy~ 14lbs of tumors and invasive endometriosis removal. My head hair loss has continued and expanded to legs, arms eyebrows and eyelashes- with increased facial hair. I have new hair growth on my head but the overall hair count continues to decrease as the new growth cannot keep up with the loss. Scalp is visible over my entire head.
1655449 tn?1302089876 I went to an endocrinologist several months ago,and she also specialized in weight loss. I told this specialist that I had weighed over 200 lbs and had lost 70 or so pounds and was keeping most of it off, but having trouble recently (that's why I was seeing an endocrinologist).
657653 tn?1224680706 Hi, How are you? Degenerative arthritis is also called osteoarthritis or "wear and tear" arthritis. It is a form of arthritis that causes the gradual breakdown of the cartilage that cushions the joints. Movement then causes the bones to rub against each other, which is painful. Degenerative arthritis is characterized by inflammation, breakdown and eventual loss of the cartilage of the joints. This can be caused by obesity, bad posture, repeated trauma or injury, and overuse.
Avatar n tn When living on a disability pension going to a weight loss spa is out of the question buying food and paying normal every day bills is just affordable . As I am allergic to numerous foods my food intake is controlled and that includes eating junk food like fries and hamburgers I have a serious allergy to potato, yeast is not a friend either so bread is not part of my diet either. I have a healthy intake of food caloric value 800-1200 per day.

Avatar f tn Hi there! I was diagnosed about 6 months ago with osteoarthritis in my L4/5 and was told it was a moderate case by my GP. I've had back pain going back 10yrs, but they just figured it out recently. My problem is that my doctor is refusing to do pain control even with my CT and Xrays showing up postive. I've told her I'm looking for pain relief and not to get high.
1175033 tn?1492201228 Sure you can do the hula! I've done hula on a couple vacations to Hawaii! ;) You can do just about anything you want as long as it's not high impact - no jumping or long distance running, for example. You can walk, hike, bike, do low impact aerobic exercise, yoga (carefully - certain positions you'll want to avoid), tai chi, swim, light weight training, etc. You'll probably be told not to lift anything heavier than 20 or 30 pounds, and to be careful to avoid falls.
Avatar f tn Lumbar spinal stenosis may cause numbness, weakness or cramping in thighs, legs and feet, shooting pain, and paralysis of legs in severe cases. Muscle loss or wasting results from sedentary way of living, secondary to disuse due to rheumatoid arthritis, or osteoarthritis if you are suffering. Other causes of atrophied muscles include neuromuscular disorders like guilain barre syndrome, secondary to diabetic neuropathy, malnutrition or stroke.
Avatar f tn Afterwards, my back muscles have a somewhat shaky or weak feeling for a few hours. Have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis, spinal stenosis, and degenerative disc disease.

Avatar n tn t get out of bed for about six months. During this time, my knee joints became swollen, painful and stiff, with some loss of muscle mass around the knees and in the legs. (I was severly depressed!) Is it posssible that being bedridden for so long caused this problem in the knees, or is this condtion arthritis? Have you seen joint swelling and pain in some bedridden patients? I'm very curious and i'm in a lot of pain.
Avatar f tn I am on the 100mcg patches and Oxycodone IR (Immediate Release) 15mg tablets and have not experienced any weight loss. I have actually gained weight. I believe the weight gain is from my ankle fusion surgery not the medications... just as someone mentioned above I think maybe since you found some relief or comfort that you are not as depressed and feeling better I am sure you probably eat better and don't even notice it... Good luck!
Avatar n tn I could not bend my knees at all and standing/walking sent the must excruciating pain through my knees. Went to ER and was told that I had an advanced stage of Osteoarthritis. Always ignored the mild knee pain for years because I only noticed it after working out and assumed it was from that...
483733 tn?1326798446 My father was disabled from osteoarthritis when I was a teenager and gave up on life. He just ate and sat in his chair watching TV. He is now morbidly obese and as a consequence greatly suffers even more due to the weight on his joints. I am determined to not let that happen to me and this diagnosis is spurring me to lose the weight and stay active. Do any of you have advice on best exercises for an arthritic body?
Avatar m tn The most common forms of arthritis is Rheumatoid arthrtiis which an autoimmune disorder, and Ostearthritis with loss of cartligate in between the joints causing wear and tear on the joints. The usual symptoms are pain, sometimes swelling and tenderness of the joints, and stiffness. It is important to keep mobile in between the severe episodes so as not to seize up completely. Gout and lupus is another form of arthritis and there are other forms too which I am not too familar with.
1191770 tn?1267710445 A little about me- I was 35 when I was diagnosed with Osteoarthritis and Degenerative Disk Disease when I developed bone spurs in my hips and could not tolerate the pain anymore, (I'll be 58 in April).
532065 tn?1213149801 ve always taken my Synthroid. I never miss taking my medication. Now I have osteoarthritis and it is rapiedly getting worse. In the past year my dr has lowered my dose from .125 daily to .112. Since then I have gained weight and the arthritis in my fingers is getting worse very rapidly and I am wondering if there is a link between the two. I know that the Hashimoto's disease affects my autoimmune system do you think that it can be making my arthritis worst.
Avatar n tn ) I know how difficult it can be to lose weight. I doubt that your weight loss had anything to do with this condition but your Doctor can tell you that for sure. I HOPE that you will update us on Wednesday after you have received your results as I as a Grandmother, will be anxiously waiting to hear your results. We Grandmother's (hence the name NamNam) tend to worry about ALL young people. :) I wish you the VERY BEST and look forward to any and all updates that you will post.
