omnicef vs amoxicillin

My child was 1 1/2 months old when she developed a "cold" that consisted of a stuffy nose for about 1 1/2 months. After 2 bouts with antibiotics(amoxicillin & omnicef) it seemed that we were in the clear. Then about 3-4 weeks later she came down with a terrible cold that doesn't seem to want to go away and the doctors said there was nothing they could do for it.

Following the surgery I ended up with chronic sinus infection, for which I took a course of amoxicillin. That did not help and the oral specialist put me on augmentum. Upon completion of that, infection came back 3 days later. My dentist explained that inane a chronic sinus infection and would have to take implant out. He removed the implant, cleaned the sinus and prescribed another course of augmentum. That did not help with the problem, as infection did not go away.

He was put on amoxil and had an allergic reaction so he has been taking omnicef. The Dr told us this week that the omnicef has not done anything and that he was going to give him a round of antibiotic shots. So far my son has had 2 of the 3 shots. My first question is how quickly do these shots work? My other question is: Is there some underlying problem that is causing these ear infections, something more serious? He has not had any other type of infection i.e.

Hello my 12 year old was taking omnicef for a ear infection and 10 days into it she got hives all over her body and they come and go and really ichy do you think it's from the Omnicef?

Also, the infection has been treated with numerous antibiotics (amoxicillin, flagyl, omnicef, augmentin, clindamycin), and all seem to help at first, but only clindamycin has lasting effects. Not even augmentin worked. Any idea on what kind of bacteria would respond to clindamycin but not augmentin?

Sorry I just need to vent I suppose. I am now considered CDC positive for Lymes, but my insurance wouldn't allow anymore than 2 weeks of Omnicef when I needed at least 3 more months. In the meantime I was out of meds and now I am having sciatica, migraines, and tingling feet, and just overall very moody. Just annoying. So now new one is Amoxicillin and Biaxin so far I am tolerating it fine. I notice this Lymes affects my moods sometimes and I seem much more grouchy and tired than usual.

I have had a round of Avelox a few weeks ago and recently Omnicef 600mg/day for 10 days and still have discharge. Question, wouldn't these antibiotics be affective against NGU, Chlamydia or Gonnorrhea? Thanks for the help.

Hi all, wondering if you have come across information indicating that flagyl can treat babesia at the same time it's treating Lyme. I understand it's also a antiparasitic, so not sure if that counts. If anyone knows or has heard their LLMD mention this please let me know. I just took my first dose of Flagyl, keeping my fingers crossed that I see some fantastic results!

About 1 year ago I as given Omnicef for a bacterial infection. After 3 days of tumultuous diarrhea, I finally stopped this drug but not soon enough. Ever since then, I have had stomach problems. It first started out as irregular and often BM’s, and then progressed to A constant gnawing or burning between my breastbone and navel in addition to erratic BM’s and gas, bloating, and just an overall lousy feeling within the digestive system.

She is now on 14 days of omnicef at 4.5ml of 250mg/5ml strength. She has received since the 14th omnicef 5ml of 150 (whatever the lower strength is)mg/5ml that was a 10 days script that she took 5 of because they then started rocephin injections on the 20th. The original omnicef was for an ear infection. That was clear when she went in on the 19th and they rocephin (1gm) injections were started due to the prolonged fever (since the 8th). She had three 1 gm injections..

I am on everything except the Cefidinir(Omnicef) bc she is adding that after we add the Septra and sees if it is well tolerated.

his pediatrician prescribed Omnicef for severe ear infections. She said there was a 5% chance hed be allergic to that but she wanted to try it out. well, he was allergic. After 3 doses he broke out in HIVES all over his face and scalp scratching and screaming in a way no child ought to scream. I immediately gave him benadryl and stopped the meds (wed at 9am was the last dose) it is now friday afternoon he has no fever but is still breaking out in some hives. they go away on their own.

Has anyone experienced this with treatment. I'm on zith, omnicef, rifampin and flagyl. I am feel like poo, which could be part herxing, part flare, part side effects. My main concern is this low back pain. It is in the area of the kidneys. After an hour of taking my meds - it starts. I'm also sick at my stomach, headache, tinnitus, the works. I called my LLMD nurse triage line, but it takes 48hrs for them to answer me.

This last dose seemed to do the trick as they changed his ABX to Omnicef vs Keflex. He has been finished with the treatment for 3 weeks and with the Elidil and dipping him in Aquaphor 3 times per day he has not had anymore than just a "dry patch" appearing here and there which I combat with the Elidil, Momentasone and Mimyx and the usual Aquaphor regimine. He also takes Atarax 2 to 3 tsps per day for his allergies.

My 4 yr.old son had an allergic reaction to Omnicef. Hives all over and swollen hands, arms and feet. It's been 18 days and still gets a slight case of the hives . Within the last week( 3 times) he's had leg pain(muscel pain) joint pain. He has a hard time walking, usually the next day he can, it lasts anywhere from 12-24 hours. Hi. I'm still being treated with antibiotics for a clinical diagnosis of Lyme disease. I'm just wondering if there are others out there who experience a large amount of tingling and numbness in hands, feet, face, scalp and sometimes even my tongue. I don't have any pain in my joints, it all seems to be neurological. I also have a lot of pressure in my head and dizziness/lightheadedness. It's as though I can't move my head fast or I'll have an "off" feeling.

We went to see sm ENT after a round of amoxicillin gave no relief. She has a swollen tonsil on the right side that the ENT said was hard. She said the rest of the exam appeared normal but biopsied the hard spot, cutting a large chunk of tonsil out. It has been 6 days since the biopsy and we get results tomorrow. The PA for the ENT said maybe a tonsil stone, maybe tonsil cancer. She said she saw no signs of infection. When biopsied, we could see a large white spot.

I took her to her pediatrician that same day where they did a strep test which came back negative, prescribed omnicef and sent us home. The next day her temperature just kept skyrocketing, getting up to 106. That night I took her to the ER at Children's in Dallas where they ran another strep test, mono, flu, and cbc. Her mono, strep, and flu all came back negative. Her white blood count was at 21. They gave her a shot of rocephin, told us to continue the omnicef, sent us home.

and she was diagnosed with Strep Throat (She normally gets strep at least 3 times/winter).She was given omnicef for an antibiotic (she is allergic to Zithromax) About a week and a half later she was diagnosed with Pnemonia, and given anther omnicef perscription. One week later the pnemonia was getting worse, and she was hopsitalized for 2 days with IV antibiotics. We left with an additional 5 days of omnicef. Through out this time, she continues to run fevers any where from 99.5-105.

I have swollen eyelids that come and go, almost like hives, but rarely itch. Can be one or several. On omnicef for sinus infection, but doctor doesn't think this is causing it. Before omincef had a sulfer type med that caused swelling in joints, sick stomach, rash, fever. Have been on Omicef 5 days. Started having strange raised bumps for three days that come and go. Will say that two weeks ago had actual hives around eyes and think it was caused from eye cream.

I think he/she should have probably went in the direction of a broad-spectrum antibiotic, i.e. Amoxicillin vs. Zithromax. I have seen Zithromax ordered for Strep Throat, but not that often.

It's true that if you have MVP or any other heart valve disease, your dentist should prescribe antibiotics (it's in fact one of the reasons why dentists are almost equal to MD's when prescribing meds).

I cannot take Rifampin because it contains Omnicef which I am allergic to, so I should be ok right?

My sodium level was low and my white blood count and granulocytes were very high and my lymphocytes were low. The Dr. put me on Omnicef for 10 days. I went back to the doctor a few days ago, and everything else turned out normal except now I had high Calcium and High Total Blood Protein. My Total Protein was 10.6. I am worried about the possibility of a Parathyroid Tumor with Cancer or something serious.

So yesterday I went to the Dr for an ear infection and the Dr said it was pretty bad. He prescribed me amoxicillin 500mg 3 times a day for 10 days. He said it was safe but I am scared. I have called and left a message for my drs assistant. Waiting for a call back. Have any of you had to take this in this dossage?
