Neurontin for tmj

Common Questions and Answers about Neurontin for tmj

neurontin

Avatar f tn I have been having headaches for several weeks straight now. Some tmes severe, sometimes with some sharp stabbig pain in the left side of head. I have had two MRI tests that show possible ischenic episodes with "white foci in the frontal lobe". My family dr thinks possible mini strokes, but I can't get in with a neurologist for three more weeks. I have tried Neurontin, Percocet, Tramadol, Ibuprophen with no releif. I just got a new script for Fiorinol and not tried it yet.
Avatar n tn Thanks for using the forum. I am happy to address your questions, and my answer will be based on the information you provided here. Please make sure you recognize that this forum is for educational purposes only, and it does not substitute for a formal office visit with your doctor. Without the ability to examine you and obtain a history, I cannot give a diagnosis, however I will try to provide you with information. It is very good that all the tests you mentioned are normal.
Avatar n tn however, I am having a big flare up and had to start taking ibuprofen again yesterday for the pain (drug of choice I was told in the past for TMJ flare-up). It looks like I'll have to put the filling off. Have you had an MRI of the TMJ area (better for showing the discs) or a cat scan? I am sorry the surgery didn't work for you. I was told a few years back that I need to be on a soft diet for the rest of my life.
Avatar m tn ivw been searching for answers for months for my jaw pain, face numbness, sinus fullness, burning eyes and headaches turns out i have tmj. you need to see a dentist that specialises in tmj and get xrays done. also see your doctor and get blood tests done for inflammation markers etc. good luck.
Avatar f tn Looking for people's experiences with Neurontin 1) in general and 2) specifically if its helpful for withdrawal. The poll is for people's experiences using Neurontin during withdrawal - not necessarily FOR withdrawal but just if you used during. lso let me know if you feel like it, what it actually helped with. If you have other experiences with it, please comment on this post and let me know. I was prescribed it weeks ago for facial pain, but I havent filled it.
Avatar f tn So, yes once you stop the Neurontin your withdrawls will come back. Just be prepared. I use it for TMJ issues I have, but not on a daily basis. So, I do know what im talking about here. No one gets thru withdrawls unscathed, we have to get thru them in order to let the brain heal. Not trying to be a downer here. Just telling the truth.
Avatar n tn Migraines can be controlled by avoiding triggers if known, preventive medicines like topiramate and drugs for control of an attack as if triptans, ergots etc. consult a physician for evaluation. These headaches could be due to stress, anxiety, migraines or tension headaches, sinus headaches radiating to the ear, headache usually front of head, on one or both the sides of temples along with nausea, vomiting, irritability, low blood pressure, sensitivity to lights, sound, etc.
Avatar n tn 5 months ago. My inferior alveolar nerve was traumatized. I am seeing a deep muscle therapist and a TMJ pain specialist (I don't have TMJ but they are familiar with this issue). I am getting feeling back in my chin/lip, although it's hypersensitive. The discomfort is more in my eye tooth when I touch a certain area of my lip and my lip and the muscle in that area are still very tight and at times very painful. The TMJ specialist wants to put me on an anti-epileptic medication.
Avatar f tn Jaw locking Eye pain and twitching Facial pain and burning Pain in side of head Pain in mouth Shoulder pain Arm pain with weakness and twitching Occasional balance loss I have had MRIs of my Brain, Cervical and Thoracic Spine, and Right TMJ. Everything was clear except for 2 small disc protrusions to the right at C5 and C6, the opinion is that these protrusions are not large enough to be causing problems. I have had an arthroscopy on the Right TMJ and arthritis has been ruled.
Avatar f tn Ibuprofen is considered the drug of choice (or at least it was over 8 years ago, according to the first oral and maxillofacial place I went to for my TMJ) for the TMJs- cyclic is how they had me taking it to knock down inflammation. They had me on 800 mg every 8 hours prescription medication for weeks, but that was my situation, not yours. Did the doctor give instructions re: you and ibuprofen?
Avatar n tn the problem may be dental (wisdom teeth impaction, for example), may be TMJ, or it may be a medical issue. may be stress, may also be musle tightness in the neck, which can refer pain to the head, shoulders, arms or almost anwhere. I know this doesn't help you, but it is not possible to diagnose over the internet. agan, it could be a myriad of things.
469428 tn?1207201619 Hi I am new to the forum,I have read post's and I am so sorry for everyone's pain. I had a cervical dissection with a spinal fusion on c-3through c-6 19 month's ago and now I am back where I started in sooo!!! much pain. I have been on vicodin, neurontin, lyrica, flerexil,I cannot remember what else. Now I am on celebrex and darvocet. I have almost contemplated suicide but I am too sane for that, and I don't want to go to Hell so I guess I have to find some pain relief.
Avatar f tn Although I knew that I did not grind my teeth, even in my sleep, my dentist diagnosed TMJ disorder. He made me a mouth guard (expensive) which I used at night for a month or two. It didn't seem to make any difference, and also, of course, didn't account for tingling and slight numbness. Anyway, as those symptoms lessened, so did the supposed jaw hinge trouble. I didn't and still don't have dysfunction of the TMJ. You might see if you can get relief using a mouth guard.
Avatar m tn 2 yrs ago I had anchors place to intrude my upper jaw (right) so I could have implants placed lower right after 9 months the procedure was unsuccessful and they were removed. I've since then lost 3 teeth in that area and am now left with chronic right sided face pain literally the whole right side of my head. I had a MRI last month that was negative but the pain is progressing. It now includes my right ear as well. I've be treated with neurontin and tegretol with no relief.
Avatar n tn I started going to the chiro about two weeks ago for my tmj and he said I should have neck adjustments for 2 weeks 3 days a week. So far it hasnt helped my tmj it may have made it worse cause im now streesed about my neck it feels sore and numb going down my back. Was this a proper thing to do for tmj?
1222635 tn?1366396286 we live in alabama..i am assuming that it is not required by law for insurance companies to cover TMJ, as BCBS of AL does not. any help is appreciated. my dentist told me my problem will only deteriorate without treatment and i am at a loss for what to do as we have no money.
Avatar f tn Thanks for all the answers. Im 103 days out. Just wondered about the shaking. I take 300mgs of Neurontin, Brane, and wouldn't be taking any if it wasn't for the screwed up mess that happened at the DENTAL Appointment I had last year. I just found out when I quit the Norco, just what people were talking about, when they talk about TMJ. Omg, it is debilitating. Its unreal, that someone can go for a dental or surgical appt. and come out worse than when you went in.
Avatar m tn I was prescribed amitriptyline several years ago for TMJ; my doctor explained that it is an anti-depressant which was thought to help with muscle relaxation and sleep. He never stated that it was for pain relief, and actually prescribed me a different medication for the pain. I also have a friend that was prescribed amitriptyline for insomnia.
Avatar n tn i have been treated for tmj for 5 years with no relief and then i had an arthrocentesis done and still no relief. now my doc tells me i have trigeminal neuralgia and is going to give me an injection into that nerve. what i want to know is there side effects of this injection? and can trigeminal neuralgia cause pain in the back of the head where the skull meets the spine. i have had continuous pain there worse then ever. i am now on neurontin and baclofen and it helps extremely.

Avatar m tn I've been using a dental mouthguard at night for the last few years because my dentist said I was grinding my teeth at night. The first one broke, and the second one has a large crack in the same location. I've also had TMJ problems, mainly in the right jaw joint, for many years. A couple years ago these got much worse, and I had more jaw pain and migrane-like headaches.
Avatar f tn I see a specialist in TMJ who tells me my case is very severe and he has been urging me for at least a year to get a full surgical joint surgery with new implants. I have heard awful things about that type of surgery. I feel like I haven't heard anything positive. I know when I see him, he is frustrated because my jaw hardly opens and it sounds like crumbling rocks, no more popping, that was the good ole days. His frustration is that I won't give in to surgery.
645390 tn?1338555377 I'm taking gabapentin (neurontin) for TN. I can't say it's a 100% fix, but it does help a lot. My neuro told me it's okay to take pretty high doses (up to 3600 mg, I think, I'm taking 1800 mg/day now), so as the pain breaks through the medicine, I gradually up the dose. I have also had the ear pain from it, though thankfully not often. For me the worst is when I'm having pain behind my eye from it.
Avatar n tn Hi and welcome to MedHelp. I also take percocet along with neurontin (gabapentin). The gabapentin is very similar to lyrica. I drink coffee 4-5 days per week and I haven't encountered any issues and I have been on percocet for almost a year and gabapentin for almost 2 years. I don't think there are any severe reactions when coffee is mixed with percocet or lyrica or both.
8496079 tn?1398412516 Has the drug Gabapentin (generic for Neurontin) worked for Fibromyaglia pain within a few days of taking this medication for the horrible pain from the Fibro? I was put on Gabapentin (generic for Neurontin) yesterday by my doctor for my Fibromyalgia Condition in addition to the Norco 7.5/325 I can take up to 4 pills day as needed for the massive pain I'm in.
Avatar m tn Hi! I've dealt with TMJ for several years, and it is important to find a doctor who actually treats it! For the first several years I had a maxillofacial surgeon and when i moved I found a dentist who specialized in TMJ. The reason why this is important is that they will understand the need for speciliazed splints to reduce harm to the jaw, and also be able to properly medicate, measure the progress and damage to the joint, and see if surgery(rarely) is needed.
